Computational speed question
Hello,
I'm doing bootstrap in R 2.4.1 in order to compute standard errors of an
estimator. I'm running the same program on 4 computers. The core of the
program is a nlm minimization of a function, which is (I believe) nicely
coded using (t)apply and all the vectorized stuff.
I'm slightly puzzled by the differences in the speed of computation. The
program works twice as fast on a

Dismal R performance of Athlon moble CPU?
I have been using a laptop computer of Pentium III 1.13 Ghz. I heard
that AMD's Athlon has excellent floating point capacity. So I bought a
Athlon 2200+ laptop yesterday. I expected that new Athlon 2200+ will be
twice as fast as the P III 1.13 GB. I ran a R simulation program and
the new computer is only 30% faster, in fact slightly slower than a
Celeron 1.50 GB laptop. I am very disappointed

Ethernet bridge overflow ?
Hello,
I''ve setuped an ethernet bridge on a debian sarge 3.1 with l7-filter +
ipp2 shapper rules
The server is a supermicro p4sci + celeron pentium 4 base 3ghz + 512Mb
+ 2 ethernet e1000
One interface is connected to a cisco catalyst switch
The other interface is connected directly to a CMTS (a sort of router
for cable modem) configured as bridge too.

Running R on a 64 bit processor
Greetings,
We recently obtained a new computer in our lab with a Pentium 4 3.86 GHz
processor and 4 gb of ram running windows xp with service pack 2. After
installing R on this machine, I ran a bit of code and found that the
execution time was actually significantly slower than a machine running
windows xp with an older Pentium chip 1.73 GHz and 1 gb of ram. After
speaking with the

Speeding up Samba
I have a 3.2 GHz P4 Win XP Pro connected to a Fedora Core 4 server
running on a 2 GHz Celeron. I get about 350 MB/s FTP
transfer over a Gigabit Ethernet connection.
Samba is very much slower between the same computers.
Can Samba be sped up to where it approaches the
FTP performance?

\ Adtran Channel Bank? - Email found in subject
Jay,
I have had a lot of trouble with the FXO ports on Adtran TA750. Unless
the incoming POTS lines have a balance impedance, they will buzz very
bad.

individuos.
Estas pequeñas cantidades creo que me están

Warcraft 3
Hi,
I have installed and played WC3 on Linux quite a lot around 20031212
release. The game played almost perfectly and I was very happy about that.
I have reinstalled it recently. I am currently running it under Wine 0.9 on
FC4. I find the performance to be inferior to what it used to be. I am
experiencing frequent short pauses ingame. It seems to be related to units
and building selections,

Xen3 on Etch - Rebooting when 2nd DomU started
Hi All,
Fairly new to Debian and Xen but I have a box running with lots of DomUs
under Xen2 and it is fine.
I have setup a new IBM eServer P4 and loaded Etch and loaded Xen3.
It runs up my first DomU beautifully but when I start my second DomU it
crashes the PC and reboots.
If I comment out the line in /etc/xen/xend-config.sxp
(network-script network-bridge)
It will run 2 DomUs
Have I run

Will my CPU/RAM be sufficient?
Hello!
I'm new to asterisk and linux, so please don't blame me if I write silly
things :-)
I'd like to setup a system with IVR only.
I'll use a SIP gateway to receive calls from the outside world, and I'll
install asterisk on a dedicated linux server placed in another location
that will be permanently connected to the gateway through the internet.
I expect to have 8

i686 vs i386 Wine Binaries
Hi,
I'm a linux newbie here.. just downloaded the Wine pacakge for Ubuntu and
I'm surprised at the number of Windows apps that are functional under Wine.
However, the performace is a bit lacking, especially in games though still
acceptable. (I'm getting maybe 75% the framerate I'm used to.)
I've noticed that the version of Wine I'm using for Ubuntu is specifically

CentOS on Compaq Proliant Rackmount Servers
Greetings,
Can anyone relate experience(s) installing CentOS on Compaq rack mount
servers units please?
Easy no problem, easy some issues, or ghastly do not do it under any
circumstances... ;)
Basically, I'm looking at some used/refurb dual PIII units and will run RAID
on Compaq built in SCSI or is it easy to pop in some 3ware SATA in them?
Let me know in terms of CentOS 3 and/or 4 please.

Is my card bad?
Hi,
I have a 1 port T1 card in an asus p4p800-vm board with a 2.0g Celeron, and
512m of 266mhz ram (256 on each channel). This board has video, Ethernet,
and serial ata all on-board, I got it because of that, there wouldn't be
anything else on the pci bus that would mess with the zaptel card(s).
So, here's my problem. I'm running redhat 9 with kernel 2.4.20-20.9. I can

Processor Size
Can someone give me an idea of the processor power I will need for 1 x
TDM240 with 2xquad FXO's and 8 sip phones/ATA's on a quite 100Mbit LAN.
The machine we have available of hand is a P4 1GHz with 768MB RAM.
