Solaris wtmpx patch
Hi,
Solaris (tested with 2.6) needs a username in the logout record in the wtmpx
file. Currently openssh (version 2.3.0p1) leaves the username (utmpx.ut_user)
empty in logout records, which leads to conflicting results from the last
command. Example:
# last -5 siegert
siegert pts/186 stikine.ucs.sfu. Mon Jan 15 14:26 still logged in
siegert pts/105 stikine.ucs.sfu. Mon Jan 15

Sync passwd and smbpasswd
I am having problems setting up the smbpasswd command to sync the /etc/passwd
and $SAMBAHOME/private/smbasswd files. My passwd program (/usr/bin/passwd %u)
doesn't seem to want to wait around for smbpasswd to send it a second password for confirmation.
I am running Solaris 2.5.1 (103640-23) on an Ultra 2300 and using Samba 1.9.18p10 compiled with gcc 2.8.1.
I thought that I had this running

bug in readconf.c
Hi,
there is a tiny bug in readconf.c: options->use_privileged_port is always
set to 0 regardless of whether -P is specified or not. This has the effect
that RhostsAuthentication is disabled even if "RhostsAuthentication yes"
is specified.
The (trivial) patch is appended below.

Anyone using SCO 3.2v4.2 with Samba 1.9.18p3??

Problem with I_STR/SIOCGIFCONF
I haven't a clue what is wrong here...
We compiled samba 1.9.18p3 using GCC and everything is working pretty
much okay. However, when we start the nmbd server we get an error

Sure but its rather large and the funny thing is that it runs when it is
trussed ( not correctly mind you) but not without it.
the truss switches I use are aefo and as I said its large. The IP's and

Dtrace probes for voluntary and involuntary context switches
Hi,
I am profiling some workloads for the voluntary and involuntary context switches. I am interested in finding out the reasons causing these two types of context switches. As far as I understand, involuntary context switch happens on expiration of time slice or when a higher priority process comes in. While the voluntary switch generally happens when a process is waiting for I/O etc.

openssh 3.7p1 and 3.7.1p1 Solaris problems
I have some Solaris 7 boxes (Ultra 3 and Ultra Enterprise 250 hardware)
that I have compiled both 3.7p1 and 3.7.1p1 on and am having some
problems. I am using the same "configure" options that I have in the
past (without problems). I have tried both new and existing (previously
working) ssh_config and sshd_config files. The new versions seem to
have broken SSH 1 support (and

Patent situation of Vorbis?
Just a question about the state of Vorbis, if I build an application using
Ogg is there a chance anyone sue me to death due to some stupid patent
violation. Is the method used in the Vorbis compression, decompression and
streams free of any patent violations?

Re: FhG $15k minimum
Doesn't the GPL license forbid the codec from being incorporated in
commercial products? Or at least have to provide their source for free? If
this is the case then I doubt commercial game makers will be interested.
Maybe the licence could be changed to allow the decoder to be incorporated
in commercial products providing they pay a minimal amount and/or be forced
to advertise the fact that

pam_smbpass can't find password database
Hello
Sorry for disturbing again. It looks like I must pass lot of compilation issues to force pam_smbpass working. And I don't believe, that nobody faced same problems as I do, because I am using quite trivial configuration without success, so maybes somebody can share experience with pam_smbpass under Solaris or help me identify what's wrong with it ?
So finally I wrote my own pam

Dear Sir,
I try to install OpenSSH 3.7.1p1 on AIX 4.3.3, but I find the following

Would you please give some advices for me?

3.7.1p1 PAM Problems in RedHat 6.2
I've corresponded with several different techs at a
major dedicated webhosting provider and they too
so far have not been able to determine why the
newest version of OpenSSH 3.7.1p1 is conflicting
with PAM on our server running RedHat linux 6.2.
I've also tried installing 3.7.1p1 on other RedHat 6.2
servers and the exact same PAM problems. But on
7.1 RedHat servers I've had absolutely

OpenSSH 3.9p1 X11 forwarding
Hi,
We upgraded from 3.7.1p2 to 3.9p1. The behaviour of the X11 forwarding
changed significantly, it is much slower. See below the truss output
(server side which runs 3.7.1p2) an check for the timestamp (6 seconds
delay). Do you have any idea what may causes this behaviour? Platform is
Solaris 5.9 Generic_117171-05.
Thanks in advance,

openssh 3.7.1p2 fault on solaris 9 for sparc when built as 64-bit
I built OpenSSH as a 64-bit binary on Solaris 9, using gcc 3.3.2,
OpenSSL 0.9.7c and zlib 1.2.1. sshd starts up normally, and will begin
the login session, however, some time after it reads /etc/default/login,
it faults and kills the connection. There are no error messages logged
to syslog (with LogLevel set to DEBUG) or with the -ddd option.
Here's a truss of the failure:

Fraunhoffer claims patents on other formats
Here in the uk, to get a patent on anything, you have
to prove that the patent is not obvious and that there
is no prior art.
If there is prior art, then a patent cannot be given,
this is why people patenting stuff have to keep it a
secret until they actually have the patent, otherwise
it is considered to have been released into the public
domain.
Once something is in the public domain, nobody

[Fwd: [networking-discuss] code-review: fine-grained privileges for datalink administration]
Crossbow team,
The following is of interest to the Crossbow project. Since a large
chunk of these changes also exist in the Crossbow gate, the delivery of
this wad will result in fewer lines of changes for Crossbow''s delivery.
If someone on Crossbow could participate in this review, that would be a
bonus (Eric Cheng made original changes in the Crossbow gate at some
point last year).

OpenSSH 3.7.1p1
Hi,
RE: OPenSSH Problems
I created a package for OpenSSH 3.7.1p1 (by using
openssl-0.9.7b and zlib-1.1.4). We are trying to
deploy the created package in all of our servers,
which is already installed different versions of
OpenSSH and SSH. I was successful for few servers. In
one of our server after doing pkgadd and when i am
trying to generate keys i am getting the following
errors.
