SAMBA 3.0.21b expired password issue for Solaris 9 - perhaps a bug in winbind or /etc/pam.conf misconfigure
All,
The SAMBA version 3.0.21b expired password pam_winbind.so section
perhaps might still have an issue. It seems to just be in some kind of
loop and
never completes the section in pam_winbind.c of pam_sm_chauthtok.

TCP/IP Slowness (was win98 vs win95 with TCP/IP)
Hi,
I had similar problems with Samba and speed. To begin with, I thought
it was a Samba problem, and spent a lot of time stuffing around with
smb.conf Then, just to make certain it was Samba and not a generic
TCP/IP problem, I tried ftp'ng a big file to and from the Samba server
from W95. Speed was only 20 k/sec - about 2% of the expected speed of
a 10-Base-T network.
Same for FTP'ng

NTP strangeness...
In our network we found some client with clock differences.
Some machine have effectively some troubles, eg have NO 'Windows Time'
service defined, probably some glitches happened when moving from our
old NT-like domain.
Anyway, catching for that, we have found some other strangeness.
Windows time service run:

HP560C
Hey,
I'm using an HP560C printer on a Redhat 9 linux server and I can't get it to print. Using smbclient I can print a text page. Using smbclient I can find the printmode is graphical but when I try to print anything graphical it doesn't work. I copied my old smb.conf file from Redhat 8 and it had worked. I have tried changing printing = to cups but that didn't help. Yes my

Hi,
I am running rsync 2.6.3 on Mac OS X 10.4. I have set up rsync to act

comment = whole /usr/local/src tree
hosts allow = [ip addresses deleted]

NTP strangeness...
Hi Marco,
As far i can see here.
Are all your ADDC servers set to the same source NTP ( preffered a stratum 1 or 2 ) server. ( and not pool ntp sources )
Because below i see stratum 4 and stratum 3 servers and a timeout on one server.
When i look at this.

The list below details the changes in this release.
You can get the source code from
http://cran.r-project.org/src/base/R-3/R-3.0.1.tar.gz

Linux Live CDs with Xen Support
Hi,
does anybody have a list of working Linux Live CDs with Xen Support which I can use in a Xen Domain?
What I''m looking for is more or less something like Knoppix with Xen Support so that I can use the yet-not-supported hardware of my Ferrari 4005 in the Linux Domain
regards
Bernd

automatic flag updates
Is there a way to get dovecot to send automatic flag updates? I notice
that when I have two clients connected and one of them reads a new
message, the server sends a status update which contains the number of
unseen messages, but doesn't specifically say which ones have changed.
I think the solution to this problem, while not wasting bandwidth, is to
issue a unilateral FETCH FLAGS response

problem with AFS token forwarding
Hello,
I came across an interoperability problem in OpenSSH 3.0p1 and 3.0.1p1
concerning the AFS token forwarding. That means that the new versions are
not able to exchange AFS tokens (and Kerberos TGTs) with older OpenSSH
releases (including 2.9p2) and with the old SSH 1.2.2x. In my opinion this
problem already existed in Openssh 2.9.9p1, but I have never used this
version (I only looked at the

[PATCH] Connect timeout
The attached patch adds a new 'ConnectTimeout' option (man page updated
in patch) to avoid wasting time when the target host is down. I needed that
because I was using rsync/rdist over ssh for massive files update and the
default connect() took too long for my purpose.
The patch was tested on Linux only, but I used a similar one for ssh 1.2.XX
on Linux, Solaris and HP-UX without

[patch] openssh 3.0.2p1: Libwrap gets linked in unnecessarily
Hello,
There is a small but annoying problem with linking libwrap in openssh.
The library is added to LIBS which makes it be linked in to all binaries.
This is unnecessary and leads to bogus dependencies if libwrap is a shared
library.
Following is a trivial fix that reserves a separate autoconf substitution
variable LIBWRAP, which is only used for sshd. Please apply.

3.0.1p1 losing tty modes?
Hello,
openssh-3.0.1p1 appears to transmit and parse tty modes correctly,
but later in the code it uses vhangup() to close all tty references and
reset the tty to default modes. I don't think that vhangup() should be
needed on Unix98 ptys, possibly not even on BSD ptys, and I am probably
wrong, so please tell me where. Of course vhangup() clears all tty modes,
so you need to save them
