Clients periodically disconnecting
Samba 3.0.21c, RHEL4. About a week ago, we restarted our Samba server because nmbd had run amok. Since that restart, our Apple clients have periodically disconnected -- by most reports, they disconnect every 15-45 minutes. It doesn't appear to be synchronized, i.e., every Mac on campus doesn't disconnect at once, but only occasionally. They get a message similar to: "A server you

Periodically Call Remote Condition
Hi guys, I''ve been reading through the forums and came across a response for adding :with condition to a periodically call remote. I tried it out and couldn''t make it work. Would anyone have a sample of how to use this conditional structure with periodically call remote? If not, does anyone have any idea how to add a condition to a periodically call remote? What I need is to

tail -f and periodically call remote
Is there some way to tail -f a file and print whatever tail -f gets to the browser on the client side. I''m thinking periodically call remote can do it. Is there some shortcut method, or does one have to store the cursor line that they read up to from the file last time, and then start reading again from the new cursor on the next periodically call remote. thanks -- Posted via

Dovecot Periodically Stops Authenticating Users
Hi, It seems that my dovecot installation periodically stops authenticating users. Restarting dovecot resolves the issue temporarily. I'm authenticating via PAM to OpenLDAP on a CentOS 4 box. I've seen several related posts about this issue but no resolution. My logs show: Sep 15 03:58:24 server01 dovecot: imap-login: Can't connect to auth server at default: Resource

samba periodically access the disk even when idle ?
Hi, does samba server access the disk periodically even it is not serving any client ? I am trying to setup a home server which is not frequently used and set the HD to spin down after 60s inactivity. But it get kicks up again apparently by samba(stoping samba and the disk won't spin up anymore). I think it is a 3 minute or so interval. Is there a way to tell it not to as I can sacrifice

Excel files locked for editing periodically in SAMBA 2.2.8a?
This is happening periodically on our network with users using excel documents. Either with Office 2000,XP or 2003. The problem seems to happen for a day or so then disappear for a while again. I've read it might be the version of Samba we are using? If so, is there a workaround that we could try until we upgrade in a couple weeks? Regards, -- -Paul

select periodically returns 0 then read ETIMEDOUT
Hi Experts, I used strace to trace an issue that the session hold the file lock for about 20 mins after the client disconnected from the network. Then the session was terminated by Samba. In the strace output, I found select was being called periodically in a loop, returning 0. After minutes, 1 was returned by select then read was called, ETIMEDOUT returned. As a new hand, just want to know if

Re: #130041: xmms-flac: breaks periodically
Anyone here have any ideas? Is there a trace I can add to the flac plugin, or some diagnostic method? Is there some debugging routine I can use to see what's going on? I'll write a script to re-decode/encode the flac files and see if that fixes it. Should be done by tomorrow or the day after (I have some 800 flac files, of length 3-8 minutes). -- Asheesh. Polycom IP501 MWI goes off periodically
I remember seeing something like this on the list a while ago, but I'm darned if I can find it. We have a number of Polycom IP501 phones, some of which have more than one registration on them. When a voicemail is left for a phone with only one registration, the MWI lights up and stays lit until the voicemail is listened to. However, on our phones with more than one registration, the MWI

Recommended method of running puppet periodically on mac os x
Hi, I tried asking this question on ask.puppetlabs.com, but haven''t got any responses yet: https://ask.puppetlabs.com/question/1975/recommended-method-of-running-puppet-periodically-on-mac-os-x/ Is there some source of puppet & mac os x knowledge that I''m unaware of? I was kind of hoping that the ''osx'' tag on ask.puppetlabs.com would become that.

terminal hangs on solaris
Every once in a while, my terminal session with an OpenSSH server (any version, up to and including 2.9p2) will hang indefinitely upon logout, rather than returning to the shell on my UNIX client machine (or closing the window, if in a M$ environment). Unfortunately, I can't reproduce the problem, but it does occur frequently enough to be annoying. When it does happen, this is what I see on
