Solaris UseLogin problems
I'm using openssh 2.5.2p2 on Solaris-x86 2.6. I ran into a couple
problems when I set UseLogin to "yes":
The big one seems to have been reported before: login refuses to run
without a utmpx entry. This problem appears to have been caused by
the changes in revision 1.24 of session.c. Before this revision, the
record_login() function was always called, no matter how UseLogin was

One more UseLogin tweak
One other thing I noticed in the record_utmp_only() function is that
it wasn't setting the timestamp in the logininfo structure. The
following patch takes care of this:

openssh-3.1p1 on GNU/Hurd
Hi,
I've gone and ported the latest version of openssh, 3.1p1, to GNU/Hurd.
I've tried to learn from the other threads on this topic, but I still had
to get rid of MAXHOSTNAMELEN where I could.

Resend: loginrec.c patch
I'm resending this patch just in case it got lost.
The first hunk of the patch fixes a problem with the LOGIN_NEEDS_UTMPX
support in that the date was not being set in the logininfo structure
(causing wrong timestamps in the "last" log).
The second hunk just omits the USE_WTMPX code in the LOGIN_NEEDS_UTMPX
section if USE_UTMPX is defined. This prevents duplicate events in the

Greetings,
I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask these question,
if I am at the wrong place please advise.

Solaris UseLogin problem
I was having problems getting the UseLogin option to work
on Solaris.
I would recieve this error:
No utmpx entry. You must exec "login" from the lowest level "shell".
This led me to believe that Solaris login wants a utmpx entry in
order to function. I put together a patch that calls record_login
on Solaris when using the system login. I also noticed that writing

openssh-2.9.9p2 session.c uses two undeclared void functions
I found this problem on 32-bit Solaris 8 sparc. session.c uses two
void functions without declaring them first; this violates the C
standard, which requires declarations for such functions. Here's a
patch.

PATCH: Fixing last/utmpx for Solaris
In case it is any help, here is the patch against openssh-3.0.1p1 that
corrects the problem with last reporting on Solaris that I sent to the
list a week or so ago against 3.0p1. There was no conversation about this
aside from Rip Loomis' comment about including it to support BSM auditing
- does this present a problem for other OSes to include the ut_name field
in the utmpx entry? Should this

I am starting this now because we are looking at a code freeze soon and I

Patch for "last" providing incorrect information on Solaris 8
I have put together a simple set of diffs that corrects the problem
described by Steven Fishback <sfishback at interpath.net> on 10-30 on this
list regarding incorrect information reported by last on Solaris. The
patches merely pass along the username in the utmpx record for a logout.
Is there any reason why this would be a problem with other OSes? If not,
maybe this could be rolled into the

[PATCH] Creation of record_failed_login() in sshlogin.c
Hi All,
I've been poking around various parts of the auth code for a while.
Some platforms support failed login counters and it occurs to me that
there's as few too many instances of:
#ifdef [PLATFORM]
if (authenticated == 0 && strcmp(method, "password") == 0)
some_login_failure_func();
#endif
The attached patch creates a record_failed_login() function in

Irix UseLogin wtmp/utmp bug
I am using the "UseLogin yes" configuration parameter to call the
/usr/bin/login program on SGI Irix, (we are using Irix version
6.5.13). I do this because the SGI login program is AFS awhere and
checks out a token for you and I do not want to compile the Kerberos
version of sshd, (it is to messy for me to support).
Everything seems to work fine accept the wtmp(x) and utmp(x) files do
