SYSLINUX 2.20-pre14 released - RELEASE CANDIDATE
So it turns out that -pre13 was quite buggy after all. Once I started running the list of tests that I described in my email, a bunch of those bugs came to heed. Now I think I've fixed them, and so have released -pre14. I have also formally decided to call the final release 3.00 when it's ready. Between code base rewrite + EXTLINUX + libcom32 + simple menu, there is plenty of

SYSLINUX 2.20-pre9 released, now with EXTLINUX
... and this is pretty much the first version of 2.20 which can be considered likely to actually work, except for the Win32 installer. The big news in this prerelease, by far, is EXTLINUX. I'm also hacking on a "simple menu system" as a com32 module; basically a hack to re-parse the config file and display a menu of its label statements. Don't know when that'll be ready

Xen 3.3.1 + Windows 2008 x64 + GPLPV 0.9.12-pre13 = corruption?
Hi James, I''m testing GPLPV 0.9.12-pre13 on Windows 2008 x64, and found some interesting results : - The drivers are NOT signed, even though I''ve install certs. Had to use F8 on boot. - both QEMU and Xen block device are active, which usually means corruption is coming. Is this a known issue? http://i44.tinypic.com/2vmypvk.png http://i42.tinypic.com/2mewnia.png Regards, Fajar

SYSLINUX 2.09-pre13
Another SYSLINUX prerelease (I really need to get this out the door...) with additional menu system improvements from Murali. Murali: I made some pretty sizable changes to heap.c. I hope that's ok with you. ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/Testing/ This is definitely a release candidate. Only bug fixes until 2.09 is out. -hpa

Syslinux-4.06-pre13
OK, another prelease. This one is looking pretty good and the shortlog is appended below. Any testing that you can do would be greatly appreciated. In particular, Matt, could you try out this prerelease and see whether your disabled entries are no longer highlighted/selectable? If things stay looking good over the next few days we can hopefully cut a 4.06 final release at the weekend or early

SYSLINUX 2.09-pre14 released, release candidate
This release includes Murali's menu positioning patch; it is otherwise identical to 2.09-pre13. I will release this as 2.09 on Sunday unless I hear objections. Note that I've effectively been out of the loop, moving houses, for almost a month, so if there is something I'm forgetting please tell me... -hpa

SYSLINUX 2.20-pre1 available
After a couple of very late nights I actually have a VERY preliminary test of the rewritten SYSLINUX available for preview. However; don't expect it to do anything miraculous yet; the testing it has gotten can best be described as infinitesimal. In theory, though, it should now support EDD and FAT32, as well as FAT filesystems with very large clusters (up to 64K). NOTE: The Win32

[How-To?] Using Syslinux AltMBR + TrueCrypt System Encryption (RFE: swap drive ID's)
Just achieved success using syslinux to multi-OS boot, including a WinXP System (boot) partition that's been encrypted with TrueCrypt (TC). You'll need syslinux version 3.81-pre13 or newer to get a working altmbr.bin file. I used: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/Testing/syslinux-3.81-pre13.zip Background: I started with a 'normal' multi-OS boot setup as

SYSLINUX 3.01 released
Some people have reported portability problems with SYSLINUX 3.00, mostly due to the use of HDIO_GETGEO_BIG, which is deprecated; additionally, the advanced menu system wouldn't build for everyone due to a spurious reference to %ebp. This release fixes these things, plus makes the extlinux installer default to zipdisk geometry (64 heads, 32 sectors) if it can't guess anything else.

SYSLINUX 3.00-pre8: Let's try this release thing again
Okay, spending the time to dot t's and cross i's (or something like that), I think I have something now that can be called 3.00-worthy, so let's call it a release candidate. Changes over the earlier 3.00 prereleases: - -m and -a options now supported by the DOS installer. - PXELINUX now allows IP addresses, FQDNs, and truncated hostnames when specifying an alternate TFTP server

Fw: Issue with pxelinux
I've been working with Matt Burgess here on this problem, and have found the following: syslinux 3.08-pre10 ? broken >>> config.inc:max_cmd_len=255 syslinux 3.08-pre11 ? works >>> config.inc:max_cmd_len=1023 syslinux 3.08 ? works >>> config.inc:max_cmd_len=1023 syslinux 3.09-pre1 ? works >>> config.inc:max_cmd_len=1023 syslinux 3.09-pre2 ? broken

SYSLINUX-3.02 released
Tying up lose ends, and adding the ethersel module for the Etherboot folks. -hpa Changes in 3.02: * SYSLINUX: The "unix" installer now sets the MS-DOS attributes (hidden, system, readonly.) * COM32 library: build the .lnx (test modules for running under Linux) as architecture native modules, in case i386 devel libraries aren't

linux kernel, git, and stateful sync
I just read an article on Kernel Trap that mentioned that rsync wasn't quite meeting the needs of the linux kernel developers and I was wondering if H. Peter Anvin or Nathan Laredo had expressed their needs to the rsync developers? I didn't see anything in the mail archives. ==== ... While the public portion of the Linux Kernel Archives is served by the hardware described above, there is

Doubling network and disk with gplpv 9.12.pre13 in Russian Windows 2003
Hi James Harper and others, I seen that problem already discussed early, but maybe it help you make hiding qemu devices when install gplpv driver. For now, when install gplpv i has not working qemu disk driver (gplpv works) and not working gplpv network (i think i can disable realtek network card and then gplpv will work). When you discuss German and French windows versions - you ask about

Syslinux 4.04-pre15
Okay, I have found a workaround for the build problem that affected -pre13 and -pre14, and as a side bonus I have pulled a couple of fixes, including Sebastian's latest gfxboot updates. -hpa

SYSLINUX 3.00-pre4 released - FINAL RELEASE CANDIDATE
Okay, I have released SYSLINUX 3.00-pre4. This integrates Joel's MBR-writing patch into the Win32 loader; modified to a fair extent by me. God, the Windows API is uglier than hell. This will definitely be the last prerelease for a while, since I'm about to leave for the airport for the holidays. When I come back I plan to release 3.00, so please try it out and yell if there are

Re: Benchmarking GPL PV Drivers for Windows between0.9.11-pre13 and 0.10.0.69
Pasi, Thanks for putting that wiki page together for the dom0 kernels - it's something that has long been needed for pulling together information on those kernels. I know it's always a chore for me to find info on how to get/build a dom0 kernel if I don't like the one that's included with a distribution. Thanks! -Nick >>> On 2009/07/07 at 00:50, Pasi

SYSLINUX 3.00-pre1 released - RELEASE CANDIDATE
Okay, nothing like user mail at 3 am to keep one awake... I have implemented a filename-based syntax for downloading from an alternate TFTP server in PXELINUX. If the filename starts with IP address:: it will: a) Download from the alternate TFTP server; b) Suppress the common pathname prefix. I was considering also adding a configuration file option to set the default TFTP server, but I
