Lilo like menuing system for Syslinux
Hi,
I'm sure this has been posted before. And I'm just wondering
if anyone has ever implemented it. I just thought that this
is really a nice feature for Syslinux.
TIA,

fail-safe boot - how can this be done?
I'm installing syslinux on an embedded board that will only be reachable via boat+hike or helicopter. This will be a somewhat experimental platform, so I can't make a read-only filesystem on CF. What I'd like is to have two root filesystems on a CF card, one that is a read-only "fail-safe", and a 2nd that is the "normal" system I experiment with. What I'm

Trying to build ISOLinux Minimal CD
Okay..
I'm pulling out my hair, not having much luck trying to get ISOLinux
(syslinux) running on my IBM x345 Server...
I want to put my boot (syslinux) and root files (lib etc for modules) on
the CDROM and just boot off of it to use PartImage...
Not having much luck though..
For testing purposes I'm using the boot floopy I created using "The Linux
Bootdisk HOWTO" and it

Can this work?
I would like to develop a system where by I can boot any of the
machines on my system - and select from a menu what I would like that
particular client to do. For example, maybe load a bootdisk image from
a network share, and boot that. Or boot the first partition on the
local disk.

SYSLINUX 2.09-pre2
This version contains a fix to mbr.asm, plus a version of Murali's menu
system, but ported to gcc. Although gcc produces much bigger 16-bit
code (since it's really 32-bit code with prefixes) I figured it would be
much easier for people to deal with since it requires the configuration
to be compiled in.
That being said, it's a *very* powerful menu system, partially *because*

SYSLINUX 2.09-pre4
I have just released SYSLINUX 2.09-pre4 with a few changes:
a) SYSLINUX should now correctly handle mode changes from within a
COMBOOT program.
b) Tweaks to the menu system to avoid the "grey text on black" problem.
c) A new color scheme for the menu system (Murali, check it out and see
if you think it works for you.)

syslinux vs grub
Okay, I'm going to ask the gajillion-dollar question...
I've been doing syslinux for 11 years now. From a very limited scope it
has since grown and is now a very advanced boot loader.
Unfortunately, it's not clear to me anymore to what extent the work I'm
doing is useful.
I personally dislike grub because of its monolithic design, and because
the grub people have

Modules will no longer be automatically included in RSpec version 1.1.4
Can anyone (David?) shed some light on what exactly this warning is
complaining about? I started seeing it when I upgraded to Rails 2.1
RC1 and the latest RSpec from git.
I''m getting it in some helper specs that I''m writing. And yes, I am
including a module there, to reuse some utility methods I originally
wrote for my controller tests (I''m switching to specs

SYSLINUX 2.09-pre5 - Menu Depth "Feature"
HPA,
I believe I've found a possible bug with /menu.
This against the unmodified -pre5 snapshot.
SRC: http://www.survivaldisk.com/menutest.c
COMPILED: http://www.survivaldisk.com/menutest.com
It's easiest explained if you just compile the .c and experience it for
yourself, anyways.
If you have two submenus nested within each other and then call a third menu

pxelinux menu questions
Hello all,
I have a few questions about the menuing system that I haven't been able
to find in the archives (it would be nice if they were available in a
searchable form other than having to click on a month-by month basis and
read through them - if they are searchable I would love to find a way to
do this but it hasn't jumped out at me).
My first question is : What is menu.c32? I

How to call a value labels attribute?
Dear All,
after searching on CRAN I got the impression that there is no standard way
in R to label values of a numerical variable.
Since this would be useful for me I intend to create such an attribute, at
the moment for my personal use.
Still I would like to choose a name which does not conflict with names of
commonly used attributes.
Would value.labels or vallabs create conflicts?

SYSLINUX 2.10-pre2 is out
I have released SYSLINUX 2.10-pre2. I *really* would like testing
reports for this one, especially ISOLINUX, since I've included Knut
Petersen's fix for Award BIOSes...
Changes in 2.10:
* MEMDISK: Handle images compressed with zip as well as with
gzip. Some Windows-based image tools apparently generate
these kinds of images by default. Patch by Patrick

change in read.spss, package foreing?
Dear All,
it seems to me that the function read.spss of package foreign changed its
behaviour regarding factors. I noted that in version 0.8-8 variables with
value labels in SPSS were transformed in factors with the labels in
alphabetic order.
In version 0.8-10 they seem to be ordered preserving the order
corresponding to their numerical codes in SPSS.
However I could not find a description of

Booting CentOS with LILO?
Hello all!
I would like to know if is possible to use LILO as the boot loader
instead of the default GRUB. My question comes because I tried to run
lilo command but the message "command not found" appear. It sounds
like my only boot loader option in CentOS is GRUB ??.
I found lilo.conf.anaconda, but not the lilo command. From already

multiplication question
folks,
is there a clever way to compute the sum of the product of two vectors such that the common indices are not multiplied together?
i.e. if i have vectors X, Y, how can i compute
Sum (X[i] * Y[j])
i != j
where i != j
also, what if i wanted
Sum (X[i] * Y[j] * R[i, j])
i != j
where R is a matrix?
thanks,
