The maximum number of rows in a com32 menu
Hey Murali, While playing with HDT which uses your menu, I found I can't reach more than 24 rows whereas my screen is 25. set_windows_size() relies on getnumrows() to define the maximum number of possible rows. But regarding to getnumrows() code, it sounds to report "// Actually numrows - 1". On my screen which is 80x25, getnumcols x getrowcols reports 80x24. The

problem with nested loop for regression
Hi everyone, I'm experiencing difficulty getting the results I want when I use a nested for loop. I have a data set to which I perform some calculations, and then try to apply a regression over a rolling window. The code runs, but the regression results I am getting (intercept and slope) are simply the same, repeated again and again in the results matrix. The regression does not seem to be

SYSLINUX 2.10-pre2 is out
I have released SYSLINUX 2.10-pre2. I *really* would like testing reports for this one, especially ISOLINUX, since I've included Knut Petersen's fix for Award BIOSes... Changes in 2.10: * MEMDISK: Handle images compressed with zip as well as with gzip. Some Windows-based image tools apparently generate these kinds of images by default. Patch by Patrick

SYSLINUX 2.10-pre6 is now release candidate
I have decided to make SYSLINUX 2.10-pre6 a release candidate. Please test it out if you can; if it works OK I will release it as 2.10 some time in the middle of the week. Thanks! -hpa

gdata selectively not working
I can use gdata to successfully read in the example Excel file, but not any other excel files. Why might this be the case? It seems that the problem has something to do with opening the database but no indication as to what the problem is. So i'm at a loss of how to fix it. > library(gdata) gdata: read.xls support for 'XLS' (Excel 97-2004) files ENABLED. gdata: read.xls support

SYSLINUX 2.09-pre2
This version contains a fix to mbr.asm, plus a version of Murali's menu system, but ported to gcc. Although gcc produces much bigger 16-bit code (since it's really 32-bit code with prefixes) I figured it would be much easier for people to deal with since it requires the configuration to be compiled in. That being said, it's a *very* powerful menu system, partially *because*

naming things in functions
Hello, I'm working with R version 1.5.0 in Windows. I've written a function (SummaryMat, segment below) which uses a loop to repeatedly call another function (PercentsMat, segment below). PercentsMat creates a matrix and adds rows to it each time it is called. I use deparse(substitute(...)) to get the names of the lists sent to PercentsMat to use them as row names in the generated

Lilo like menuing system for Syslinux
Hi, I'm sure this has been posted before. And I'm just wondering if anyone has ever implemented it. I just thought that this is really a nice feature for Syslinux. bigmemory - extracting submatrix from big.matrix object
I am using the library(bigmemory) to handle large datasets, say 1 GB, and facing following problems. Any hints from anybody can be helpful. _Problem-1: _ I am using "read.big.matrix" function to create a filebacked big matrix of my data and get the following warning: > x = read.big.matrix("/home/utkarsh.s/data.csv",header=T,type="double",shared=T,backingfile

A more efficient code using whole object approach?
Dear All, I have the following code which works fine but takes 16+ hours to run and I was hoping someone could give me a hint as to how I could make it more efficient. Let me explain what the code is supposed to do. Each single row of the m.o.f matrix (n*p dim) has to go through the following operation Dm*m.o.f[i]^alpha1m where both Dm and alpha1m have n*1 dimensions. Each row of the m.o.f

Database newbee problem...
Hi all, This is a potentially very stupid question about MySQL <-> R interaction, but I have not been able to solve it. I'm just trying to connect R to my MySQL databse, and gets this: > library(RMySQL) Loading required package: methods > m <- dbDriver("MySQL") > con <- dbConnect(m,group="testdb") Process R segmentation fault at Wed Oct 16 07:04:30

splitting dataframe, assign to new dataframe, add new rows to new dataframe
Hi, all, My objective is to split a dataframe named "cmbine" according to the value of "classes". After the split, I will take the first instance from each class and bin them into a new dataframe, "df1". In the 2nd iteration, I will take the 2nd available instance and bin them into another new dataframe, "df2". >cmbine$names apple tiger pencil chicken

Extracting column name in apply/lapply
Hi, any good trick to get the column names for title() aside from running lapply on the column indexes? Thanks Nick. apply(X[,numCols],2,function(x){ nunqs <- length(unique(x)) nnans <- sum(is.na(x)) info <- paste("uniques:",nunqs,"(",nunqs/n,")","NAs:",nnans,"(",nnans/n,")") hist(x,xlab=info) #

R-code help for filtering with for loop
Dear Sir / Madam, I am new for R coding. Kindly help me out in sorting out the following problem. There are 50 rows with six coloumns(you could see in the attached .txt file). I wish to go for filtering this 50 rows for any one of the six coloumns satisfying the value >= 64. I need to have a final table with rows having >= 64 value in any one of the six coloumns and the rest could be

From S-Plus to R
Dear Isabelle, for most of my work I have switched from S-Plus to R, because it is easier to make scripts with due to the better documentation and some other more reasonable implementations. And there was also a cost issue with the S-Plus Server, which is not for free at all. In R I use the its package for time series, which is quite sufficient for my needs. The only problem I encountered was

phpMyAdmin can't connect to remote server
Hi All, I have had a thread about this going on the phpMyAdmin list for a little while. Nobody there has been able to shed any light on my problem. It seems that with phpMyAdmin I can not connect to remote servers. Though it also seems that apache, php and mysqli all work fine outside of phpMyAdmin. Below I have detailed my trouble shooting. This only seems to be an issue for me with CentOS 5 so
