Re: Recommended minimal amount of free space to keep?
You will get better long- term performance if you don't fill the
filesystems more than about 70% full. Above 90% you are permanently
fragmenting the filesystem (depends on total size and workload also).
There is the secondary issue that mke2fs can lay out the filesystem
better if it is done right at the start rather than resize2fs doing it in
small increments. I think as long as you are

Bug#447795: xen-utils-3.0.3-1: [CVE-2007-3919] xenmon.py / xenbaked insecure file accesss
Package: xen-utils-3.0.3-1
Version: 3.0.3-0-3
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole
Xen versions 3.x, and 3.1 contain a tool for processing Xen trace
buffer information.
This tool uses the static file /tmp/xenq-shm insecurely allowing
a local user to truncate any local file when xenbaked or xenmon.py
are invoked by root.
Sample session:
# setup.

my next question: no accesss
Even if I can find back a share, (which I sometimes can, for no clear reason)
then the next message I get is "no access". I suspect this may be a Linux
config thing, but I am still unable to figure what ownership rights I should
give to the shares: root:root or someuser:users or samba:samba (this
user:group does not exist as yet). What is meant by no access: is it a

Recommended minimal amount of free space to keep?
Hello.
So, LVM is cool, having different partitions for different stuff is
cool, and of course Ext4 is cool and *reliable*.
So, we create some logical partitions and put ext4 on them,
reserving LVM space for growing those partitions or even making new ones
later.
The thing is, I would like to keep every filesystem as small as it
can be, but without degrading the performance too

correlated random effects in GLMMGibbs ?
Dear R-users,
I wondered if anyone has extended GLMMGibbs to include correlated
random effects, and if so, whether they would be willing to let me
use their code?
Jonathan Myles has no plans to extend glmm in this manner within the
foreseeable future.
With thanks,
Patty

gam plots
Dear R users,
Using the library(mgcv) and running R under MacOSX, I have fitted a
generalised additive model with binomial errors in order to check the
linearity of two continuous variables ap2mm and diffdaysm in a glm:
> mymodel.gam <- gam(diedhos~ s(ap2mm) + Dweekm + s(diffdaysm) +
Dweekm:diffdaysm + ap2mm:Dweekm, binomial)
I would like postscript gam plots for the two smoothed

problems with 2880 linux floppy image
Hi,
I'm using syslinux to boot Linux off a network server running tftpd
and dhcpd. The server is running RH 7.3 with syslinux version 2.06 and
pxe-0.1-31.99.7.3 installed from the rpm. I created a 2880 K floppy
image using syslinux and populated it with the Linux kernel images:
vmlinuz, and initrd.img (trimmed of some modules) from RH 9, also,
syslinux.cfg with kickstart information.

Samba Print "ERROR: NULL dest in safe_strcpy"
I'm new to SAMBA and to Linux. Am trying to replace windows file and print
servers with RedHat9. I set up the server and installed Samba 3.0.0. I had
everything running fine for two weeks(file and print sharing). Yesterday I
must have tweaked something, because now I cannot print! I can connect to
the printer via Network Neighborhood, but print jobs do not make it to the
printer. I still

tftp on centos 5
Hi all,
I have setup tftp on centos 4 before an it worked.
I am not setting up tftp on centos 5.
I have added many -v -v -v -v to the tftp config file.
/var/log/messages shows me connection from the IP address - but no errors.
My client eventually times out as the file is not being provided.
It works by the way on localhost, just not from a client. selinux is
turned off.

problems with share permissions
Hi
I had a few test shares created and they were working fine. Users could
read or write depending on the windows group that was defined on the
share. I have since removed the test shares and created the file
structure needed and setup the smb.conf file with the share names. I
have also setup the groups and assigned them to the respective
directories. Problem is the users can connect to

Two samba's not playing together
Hi,
I just tried to migrate my NT-PDC to samba-3.0.20b. Everything worked
fine except for a problem with my old file-server running samba-2.2.5
with winbind.
I can connect to and use shares on the new PDC and I can manage users
and groups. But when I try to connect to the file-server I'm refused access.
When I prepared this mail, I remarked that in smb.conf I somehow deleted

winbind and white spaces on user/group names
Hi Samba Folks,
we use Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with Samba 4.3.11 (from distribution). Our ADS
is Windows 2008 R2. We want to use Linux as a squid proxy with domain
auth (SSO).
Problem is, that most of the usernames have a white space and it seems
that winbind wont handle it.
I get this on my cache log with /usr/lib/squid/ext_wbinfo_group_acl
(wbinfo_group.pl) script.
