Problems with multiboot DVD and isolinux > 3.07
Hi,
some time ago I tried to boot an isolinux boot loader from another one
to be able to boot e.g. a Knoppix CD with its original boot loader and
menus from a "main" isolinux on a multiboot DVD.
This works for isolinux <= 3.07 now!
However, newer isolinux boot loaders have some problems and the isolinux
(e.g. of the Knoppix CD) loaded from the multiboot DVD's main isolinux

syslinux/isolinux capabilities
I'm wondering if it's possible to use isolinux on a bootable CDR to boot an
ISO9660 disk image off of the CDR's filesystem. I'm trying to make a multi-boot
CD which is capable of booting both floppy images and smaller ISO9660 images
(such as the debian netinst or DSL - damnsmall linux), and I am wondering if
isolinux is capable of doing this (or something similar to this -

Custom CentOS DVD, isolinux.bin, and isohybrid...
I was given a custom CentOS 5.4 DVD, containing some Digium software for one of our customers. I need to turn this burned DVD into an image that can be written to a USB thumb drive. First, I ripped the DVD to an ISO image. That part works OK, my testing VM can load and run the custom kickstart script on the image. After totally frying my unetbootin install, I decided to try and use isohybrid

bootable dvd
Is it possible to use isolinux to create a bootable dvd? I have a .iso
that boots fine from cd but not from dvd.
I have a Dell OptiPlex GX240 with dvd/cd drive. Dont know for sure if
the bios requires an update to boot dvd.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,

isolinux/el torito
hello
a while ago i posted a question about my troubles remastering isolinux
bootable cds. after that Steffen Winterfeldt helped me out a lot and now
my problems are gone.
i wrote a document about my experiences and i thought i'd share it with
you: http://littlesvr.ca/isomaster/eltoritosuppl.php
and since i'm in pimping mode, my interest in isolinux is purely because

uefi and bios bootable optical media
We have been using syslinux (V4.05) in our product for years without a problem.
Since we encounter more and more systems that do a UEFI boot by default
we want to support that too. So I've been using syslinux V6.03 to create
usb sticks and harddisks to allow both bios and uefi boot which works fine.
The problem I run into now is that it is not possible to create a

isolinux issue with AOpen DVD writer
I'm having a problem booting Slackware 10.1 boot CD's as well as an
isolinux image of my own. The system is a VIA Epia M10000 and the drive
is an AOpen ISU-8424E CD/DVD writer. If I use a Toshiba CD-RW/DVD-ROM
Drive SD-R2612 in place of the AOpen DVD writer, the cd boots fine and
everything works as expected.
What's the best course for further debugging of this problem? The only

Actually firmware cannot find any UEFI specified booting starting points
in an ISO 9660 filesystem that was created with mkisofs -b and
-hard-disk-boot, but without a boot image which was marked as EFI System
Partition.

isolinux on a pendrive from disk 1
Hi
I just grabbed an 8gig thumb drive, took disk 1 centos 4 i386,
copied the isolinux directory files to my thumbdrive, then ran syslinux
-sf /dev/sdc1
on the device plugged it into my laptop and it does not boot.
Is there a step(s) I am missing to get a bootable thumbdrive with centos?
Thanks,

non-bootable dvd image
Hi all;
I downloaded the centos 4.3 image onto my linux box and used k3b to burn a DVD iso image. It seemed to work fine.
I have an SuSE laptop and I want to setup a CentOS VM via Vmware 5.5
If I insert the dvd and boot the new vm I get 'no operating system found' It seems to be a non-bootable dvd. Is there something additional I need to do when burning the dvd image to make it

Creating a DVD with bootable ISOs
Hi All,
My question is:
Is it possible to make a DVD-R/DVD+R with a boot menu so that you could
select a particular bootable ISO on the DVD, and boot into that distro?
Asked another way, is it possible to boot an ISO burned as an ISO9660
file on CD or DVD media? If it is, how can this be accomplished?
TIA,
Andrew.

[PATCH 3/3] syslinux: support isolinux configuration files
This one is the most critical for my app, but also possibly the most
controversial to integrate.
A few applications that convert isolinux ISOs to bootable USB, including
mine, copy the ISO content to a VFAT formatted partition and then add
syslinux to make it bootable.
This would work great... if isolinux and syslinux shared the same
defaults when it comes to configuration files.

isolinux + cloop
Hi. I am trying to build a bootable linux CD using isolinux and a cloop
image. I am a bit lost right now.
What I have done is built a custom distro on a seperate partition on my
hard drive. I can boot to it with Grub no problem. I've added the
ioslinux directory with isolinux.bin, isolinux.cfg, a kernel (with
initrd, loopback, iso support), and an initrd file.
My next mission is to some

How to Create an ISOLinux Bootable CD Question
Peter,
First, I'm not a programmer and I don't have Linux. The reason I am emailing
you is that I spend the two weeks looking over your site and other trying to
figure out " HOW to create an ISOLinux image or convert my existing ISO
image to and ISOLinux image. I have some software called" Flashboot" that
can take and ISOLinux image and can create a bootable Flash drive of

isolinux puzzle
Peter,
Thank you for isolinux. What a relief to be rid of floppy images!
ISOLINUX works great except in one puzzling instance.
I recently upgraded my system with a Promise Ultra 133 (PDC20269)
controller. In order to boot from either the hard drive or CDROM drive
connected to this controller I set the boot device in the motherboard
BIOS to SCSI. Everything seemingly works great.
Until we get

ISOLINUX help requested (checksum error)
Hi Mr Anvin,
after downloading the Freedos bootable cd, which now uses your projects
(ISOLINUX & MEMDISK) instead of Bart Lagerweij's DISKEMU (www.nu2.nu), I
contacted the creator of the freedos cdrom. I was interested in how he did
make that cd bootable.
Now I understand it a bit.
As I'm a MS Windows user, I had to figure some things out.
However, upon booting I get a beautiful

What's that? That desn't exist in the Debian I'm running.
Otherwise you gave a very good description of what you're doing.
