Help Needed in attempting to install 64-bit R!
Hello R Help,
I am attempting to install/build a 64-bit version of R to hopefully resolve some memory.limit problems for a user who is running a simulation. The 'configure' runs fine and the compilation (make) runs fine until the very last part (see below). I have libiconv in /usr/local/lib (no sure why I am getting the referencing error). The config.site file is attached. ANY HELP YOU

R - Compiling and calling Fortran code that uses IMSL libraries - Help!
Good Afternoon R Help!
On of my users is seriously thinking about moving to R from Splus. In his
testing, he has already found some benefits to it. He has, however run
into one issue, calling his Fortran functions in R. Previously, in Splus,
he would do the following:
1. Compile via f90 the *.f program
2. link the object file to the Fortran IMSL libraries via the 'ld' command

Using 'sapply' and 'by' in one function
Greetings,
I'm having a problem with something that I think is very simple - I'd
like to be able to use the 'sapply' and 'by' functions in 1 function
to be able (for example) to get regression coefficients from multiple
models by a grouping variable. I think that I'm missing something
that is probably obvious to experienced users.
Here's a simple (trivial)

Merging yields "Error: unexpected input ..."
I am new to R and am having difficulty merging 2 data sets, both of which have the same 30 variables and about 2,000 records. I've looked high and low—Paul Johnson's help page, through some of the 5,420 (yikes!) results for “merge” on the R list archives, and google searches—and I'm getting nowhere, so I thought I'd ask.
When I try to merge by the ID variable:

RSYNC not finding rsyncd.conf
I am running rsync version 2.6.4 protocol version 29 on HPUX 11.11. The same version of rsync is being used on both the source and destination sides. I am running rsync across an SSH connection. The remote rsync process does not seem to be locating, or even attempting to locate an rsyncd.conf file, in either /etc/rsyncd.conf or the cwd/pwd of the rsync process.
On the client side I am running

Voicemail 0 for operator call routing
Does anyone know of a way to specify what extension is dialed when 0 is
pressed in the voicemail system. I have a situation where there is more
than one secretary and they want the 0 to redirect to the appropriate
secretary for the two groups of people.
So an example would be:
555-1234 -> voicemail -> Secretary 1
555-1235 -> voicemail -> Secretary 2
Any help would be greatly

Root privilege solution
I want to set up RSYNC so it has root privilege on the remote server. I do not want to run rsync through inetd.
I want to be able to limit who can use rsync when the remote end has root privilege. I prefer not to use rsync's
internal user/secrets file. I do want to use SSH as the transport shell. With that in mind, here is what I tried.
I wrapped the rsync single use daemon execution on the

N ~ 4000 with binary response and p ~ 0.08, regardless of how many or
how few variables I offer I get the following message: 'Error in
rpart(formula, method="class"): No splits could be created Dumped.' If I
run tree with the same dataset (no missing data) in S I get results. Is

Confounded data frame column names
This is probably a know problem (problem for me anyway) in R but I
don't quite know what to search for in help archives. When I name a
column "x11" in a data frame R thinks a column named "x1" exists. In
my application I am trying to test for the existence of a column, then
add it if it's not there. Here is a simple example:
> temd <- data.frame(x11=c(0:10))

Sol 2.51. to Sol 2.6 = Problems?
Here's an easy one for y'all. I am running samba V1.9.16p1 on an NT 4.0 vs. Solrais 2.51 peer to peer, and so
far so good. !BUT! I am about to go to Solaris 2.6. Is there anything different that must be done for samba
on this newer Solaris version?
thanks-

What happened with 5.1-RELEASE?
There used to be messages on this list around the time
of a new release, letting people know what was happening,
but that isn't happening this time. What list should the
following question be directed to, if not this one?
My auto-download program snagged a copy of the 5.1-RELEASE
install ISO yesterday morning, but no release announcement
was made. The directories exist on most, if not all

multivariate sampling question again
Hi
Thanks for replying my question! What really interested me is that the
package providing some complex form sampling, such as wishart,
multinomial, dirichlet. And others for example conditional beta
distribution confining the random variable in the interval (a, b). Since
these concept are widely used in the baysian, I wonder whether somebody
has already written this package. Thanks!
