subscription alert box
I am continually getting the subscription alert panel popping up??? I leave the selection on the default which is to activate and say OK. It asks me for the root password - I enter it. It keeps coming back... I have network connectivity for the laptop. Any ideas? I saw nothing in /var/log/messages. rhn-applet-gui
After doing the updates, my yum and my up2date both tell me the system is totally updated, and it is ... however, my rhn-applet says there are 781 updates ... and it lists as updates packages with exactly the same version ... and even some packages with older versions. Any Ideas? The rhn-applet is: rhn-applet-2.1.4-3.centos.1 Thanks, Johnny Hughes -------------- next part -------------- An

Printing problem
Hi. I've been running CentOS 4 since it was released (since 4.0). I did a fresh install and have kept it updated using up2date and yum so at present my system is running CentOS 4.2. I mostly use my system as a super-user and so I can mostly do everything without worrying too much about permissions. Not too long ago I created a "general" user account which is automatically logged

ATRpms repo question...
Hi. I'm fairly new with CentOS but have been using version 4.2 with great satisfaction (Thank you!). I've been using repos such as Dag and Dries successfully to keep my packages up to date. (I've seen many posts which allow me to believe that these repos won't change CentOS compatibility to RHEL4 or to migrate it another distro for that matter!) My question applies to the

Minor problem with CUPS printing.
I've got a Red hat 8.0 machine running the latest "up2date" version of Samba (2.2.7 with Red Hat's patches) acting as a print server using CUPS. The printing of documents is fine for the most part. But I have noticed one thing that is really nothing more than an annoyance and was wondering if anyone else has seen the problem and possibly a cure. I have all Windows 2000 Pro

Clarification
List, Being pretty new to CentOS and such, can someone answer a couple of questions about yum and up2date? I think I got the basic info, but I'm a bit confused about what does what. I configured yum to use the dag repo (I think) but now and then, I get the red circle from up2date stuff on the upper menubar. I have been using the up2date function to grab the latest bits when

Using up2date to download channels on rhn

yum vs up2date
Which is better? Why? I know yum is the official update mechanism here and in Fedora Core, but that doesn't make yum better than up2date any more than Windows NT was better than OS/2. Let's try to keep the discussion objective:-) I'm asking, hoping for some insights into why RH might (apparently) be moving to yum in preference to up2date (yum is now used within Anaconda). Other

Install Successes!
The CentOS drive for the HP NC4010 is built. I just needed to use external instead of USB power for my USB CDrom. Go figure... I did this in my hotel room, where they only have wireless. I went down to the 'business center' and used an ethernet drop, but I don't think the registration worked. I didn't know that even for the ehternet drops you have to do that portal thing

Can up2date use a local yum mirror?
If so, how do you configure the up2date client that comes with CentOS to look at the local yum mirror? Conversely, how do you disable the CentOS Network Alert Notification Tool so that users won't see the "throbbing red circle" and be tempted to launch the up2date client? Thanks, Alfred
