Using Thunderbird as local mail reader
Hi! I'm trying to figure out how to use Thunderbird as a local mail reader. So far I don't see any way to configure it other than as a POP3 or IMAP mail reader, but I get my mail locally and would like to try using Tbird to read it. What am I overlooking? Thanks in advance! -- ---- Fred Smith -- fredex at fcshome.stoneham.ma.us ------------------------ ---- Do you

Thunderbird message cache out of sync after repetitive rsyncs...
Ok, hopefully there is a solution to this. I've been experimenting with multiple rsyncs in preparation for pulling the trigger on the mail server switch, but have a problem that I really want to fox before doing so. Apparently something causes Thunderbirds local message cache to get out of sync with dovecot after a sync. Here is the series of commands I'm running: 1. stop postfix,

mail tools preferences?
We don't have enough arguments here.... <g> I see that thunderbird's deprecated for RHEL 7, and they recommend evolution. I've certainly had some annoyances in the last couple-three years with t-bird. So, what are people's preferred mail tools, other than t-bird (or maybe mutt or pine.... <g>)? mark

where is subscribed list stored?
I'm using $ /usr/sbin/dovecot --version 2.0.15 on $ cat /etc/fedora-release Fedora release 14 (Laughlin) and version 8 of Thunderbird. I use dovecot locally for internal only access to my email archives, of which I have many gigs of email archives. Over time I end up subscribing to a couple dozen different IMAP email folders. Problem is that periodically my list of subscribed folders

Thunderbird caching problem
Using a fairly simple dovecot config (which obviously needs some max limit tweaking) we have problems with IMAP synchronization between thunderbird clients. Two TB clients in the same IMAP mailbox will, from time to time, show different views of the same INBOX folders, when TB caching is enabled. The only fix is to right-click on the folder, go to "Properties" and use the "Repair

OT: Looking for a robust IMAP client
This weekend we had a runaway email endless loop. When it was killed after 18 hours, my inbox had 135,000 messages in it...there were two messages that were being endlessly sent and bounced and I'm on the postmaster alias. Thunderbird was able to do a mass select of one of the two messages, and deleted 65,000, but after that it locked up. I ended up firing up Pine to do the final

Good email client to use with Dovecot?
Hi all, When I use an email client, its purpose is as a window into my Dovecot IMAP, and as a mechanism to reply to and send emails. I don't do filtering or calendaring on my email client (filtering via procmail direct to Dovecot). What email clients are all of you using to look at your IMAP email? Keywords & sync
We're using keywords within Thunderbird, and we're syncing those using IMAP. When using more than 5 keywords, we're envcountering problems - they're only partially being synced (between two clients, but not all clients). Any idea why this could be happening? The introduction of tagging in Thunderbird is described here: <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=114656>

OT: Migration from Evolution to Thunderbird (Thunderbird mbox files)
Background is that I have been using Evolution for my MUA for a number of years. Migrated to Evolution from Mozilla Mail. I only use Evolution for email and contacts. Getting bored with the issues (frequently not being able to exit and needing to kill it; Bug Buddy popping up in GNOME, etc) that Mark (MHR) and I and I'm sure others have experienced. About 24 hours ago, I installed

cross-platform email client
I'm a Thunderbird user almost since day one, but now I'm looking for something else. For whatever reason, it doesn't work well for me - every once in a while it becomes non-responsive (UI completely frozen for several seconds, CPU usage goes to 100%) and I just can't afford to waste time waiting for the email software to start working again. My main desktop platform is Linux,

IMAP flags and dovecot-keywords not working as expected
I've converted most of our users from Outlook to Thunderbird. One important feature of Thunderbird is that it pays attention to the IMAP non-standard message flags via the 'tags' feature (see http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailboxFormat/Maildir). This is important because 2 users make extensive use of Outlook categories (Tags, in Thunderbird). I found that when I set a message to the 1st

Performance with 200k messages in Maildir
What should I expect performance-wise if I put 200000 messages in a Maildir store and use two or three MUAs (mutt and Thunderbird), on an Athlon dual core 2GHz with SATA drives in software RAID (Linux)? Like; would it be useless/crawling, usable or pretty fast. I imagine MUA startup / first time folder read would be slow, but daily use more or less ok. Thanks to Dovecot's indexing, I imagine

beta8 + mbox + Thunderbird
Hi all, I'm still using beta8 (on FreeBSD 5.4-RELEASE). Recently I put a co-worker who's using Thunderbird (1.5.0.4) on it and he seemed to have lost some messages (which were delivered on the spool since seen on procmail logfile). I switched him on another server to play safe and tried to test it myself but failed to reproduce the issue. I myself use mutt on a daily basis with no

Dovecot, Thunderbird and messages in wrong folder
Hello, Sometimes it happens that messages (e.g. one or two) appear in wrong folders in Thunderbird (latest version, also past versions, different computers, also Earlybird). When I repair the folder (folder/Settings/Repair Folder) in Thunderbird, the folder is correct then. It happens on my new server with Fedora 20, Dovecot 2.2.13 and Maildir but it also happened on my old server with

thunderbird sane config (OT)
Does anyone have any experience putting together a sane config for Thunderbird in an automated fashion? Marking as Read causes Body.Peek on ALL messages - Reasonable?
I've noticed when I select a folder of messages (Thunderbird) and mark them all as read (or unread) it produces the following IMAP transcript: Source Destination Info c.c.c.c s.s.s.s Request: DONE s.s.s.s c.c.c.c Response: 20 OK Idle completed. c.c.c.c s.s.s.s Request: 21 uid store 1:20 -Flags (\Seen) s.s.s.s c.c.c.c Response: * 1 FETCH (UID 1 FLAGS (\Recent NonJunk)) c.c.c.c s.s.s.s

Good email client to use with Dovecot?
FWIW, I use claws, which is about the only one not mentioned.? I don't like Thunderbird. For one thing, it is in caretaker status. Mozilla believes Web based mail is the "future." I rather not run roundcube, given I got hacked via an unpatched roundcube ?back when I was using a hosting company. ? Webmail just increases your attack surface.?
