.Xauthority & SMB
I asked this question a while ago, but never got any response. Since then, I've researched the problem some more, so I can give a much more concise description of what's happening. I'm mounting the home directories of the users upon login (using pam_mount) from the Windows server. However, none of the users can run X Windows. It says there's a problem with the .Xauthority file.

GSSAPI support status
Hi list! I'm wondering, what is the current status of GSSAPI (krb5) support in Dovecot? I know from googling that there used to be a patch for it around a year ago, but I haven't seen a trace of that patch ever since, and GSSAPI doesn't even seem to be mentioned in the Dovecot source tree (at least not according to "grep -irl"). Is GSSAPI planned at all, as it stands? If

Known problem?
Virually all windows programs that use just a little beyond basic functionality that I try running under wine produce exceptions, and on top of that, wine seems to crash every time it tries to start the debugger, such as: wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger... But nothing ever happens, no matter how long I wait. Sometimes it says it crashes with c0000005 (the windows equality to sigsegv,

u32 filter won''t match
Hi! I really need help with a u32 filter that won''t match what I think I''m telling it to. The situation is that I have set up an internal computer to change the TOS value of packets sent by certain processes to 0x1E (If anyone known of a better way to mark packets, please tell me. I would love to find some module that adds an IP option with UIDs and GIDs to the packets - does

Dovecot IDLE bandwidth usage
Hi list, I just recently discovered the IMAP IDLE command and tried it out with my Dovecot server. It seems to work fine and all, but it seems to be using quite a deal of bandwidth, because of the "* OK Still here" messages sent by the server at two minute intervals. I would argue that is a bit of a problem when using the IDLE command for "Push mail" on a mobile phone. I

HTB rates aren''t enforced correctly
Hi! I recently changed my qdisc from CBQ and PRIO to only HTB, and I can''t really seem to get the rates to work as I want them to. I have eight classes, which I set up as follows: tc qdisc add dev eth1 root handle 1: htb default 122 tc class add dev eth1 parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate 1000kbit ceil 1000kbit cburst 1500 burst 50kb tc class add dev eth1 parent 1:1 classid 1:11 htb prio 0

running only the dovecot-auth service
Hi, we are just testing postfix 2.3 in combination with its new dovecot SASL plugin. Now what we would like to have was dovecot SASL without acutally running dovecot ... The reason for this is because we have the "real" dovecot running on a different server than the postfix instance and it would be nice if it would not be necessary running an "full" dovecot on that server for

Status of your Dovecot GSSAPI patch
Hi! I saw your discussion on the Dovecot list back in October about a SASL GSSAPI patch for Dovecot. I'd like to ask what the status is on it. Are you still working on it? Thanks for your attention! Fredrik Tolf

Running just part of dovecot
I'm currently setting up a large mail system, with different services split out onto different machines. What I want is this: machine1: dovecot smtp auth, no pop/imap machine2: dovecot lda, no pop/imap machine3: pop/imap, nothing else machine3 is obviously not the issue. Is there a way to run machine1 and machine2 with just their respective services, but no pop/imap? -- Marshal Newrock

LDAP, sieve, and virtual users
This seems to be a common topic but I haven't seen anyone ask this exact question and get a decent answer: I use virtual mailboxes with all of the db's in LDAP. Last night I upgraded to the latest CVS version of dovecot and dovecot-lda and got global sieve filtering working by setting the global_script_path to a sieve like /home/vmail/mydomain/sieve and it works great. Now I need to

Big sites using Dovecot
Hi, Are there any big Dovecot sites (say 50,000-100,000) users on this list? What sort of hardware do you use. What sort of problems do you see? Many thanks, Jonathan.

trouble getting digest-md5 & ldap working
hi, I am trying to set up dovecot with digest-md5 as authentication mechanism and openldap as passdb. My problem is ... that I just can't get it working. PLAIN authentication works as expected, but no luck with digest-md5. An excerpt from the two configuration files: dovecot.conf: --------CUT-------- auth = default auth_mechanisms = plain digest-md5 auth_userdb = ldap

Setup help
I'd previously had dovecot running on a Debian server but recently migrated to Suse. The nice, simple setup for dovecot on debian is not as easy using the dovecot sources. My lack of experience I'm afraid! I'd like to continue to use dovecot, especially as my current maildir directories are all set up ready to be use again. On suse (sles9) I have users authenticating by LDAP. In

major pop3+ldap problem with alpha3 and alpha4
hi, For some of our customers we provide a pop3 access, and after an upgrade to alpha3, it is not working anymore. All of our data is ldap based and everything is working as before for our IMAP customers, but our POP3 users fail. Obviously the pop3 login process does not read the data correctly that comes from ldap. after enabling mail_debug, I saw the following error in our log:

Samba Share Mounts with Java
Hello, I am developing a Java application that requires me to read from and write to a samba share. When developing in a windows environment this was not a problem. I mounted the share as "M:/", built a path to a file, checked if the file exists using the Java function file.exists(), and went on my merry way. Now I am developing in a Linux environment(SuSE 10). I mount the samba

Multiple auth mechinisms
From the WIki features page, ( http://wiki.dovecot.org/moin.cgi/CoreFeatures ) it's not clear to me if the dovecot-stable release supports multiple authentications mechanisms (like in 1.0-testxx). I need both virtual domains and system users. Can I use the stable release for this? Thanks, --Micha

"logins with UID ... are not permitted"
hi, I've just upgraded our dovecot installation to the most recent debian package (0.99.20050712) and now I'm running into some weird problems.
