Incoming traffic?
Hi there,
a program is downloading large files on a regular basis and has no switch
to limit bandwidth.
Is there a way to shape this incoming traffic? Any pointers?
My outgoing traffic shaping works perfectly, but this incoming thing gives
me a headache..
many thanks in advance!

qpoppers XUIDL
Hello,
does anybody know how to make XUIDLs compatible to qpopper?
I'm migrating from qpopper and one of my test-migration-accounts leaves
the mail on the server. As soon as I switch to dovecot it downloads the
mails again and again..
bye!

Windows 2000 Passwords
Hello,
My question is the same as "Windows 98 Passwords" in your Samba FAQ
replacing Windows 98 with Windows 2000.
What is the registry to be modified to enable Plain Text Password with
Windows 2000 ?
I tried HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VNETSUP
as in Windows 98
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Rdr\Parameters
as in NT4
but none work.

deliver: select destination folder
Hello,
I wanted a commandline switch within deliver to select the destination
folder within an IMAP account, so I added the -f switch, heres the diff,
the implementation is only "proof of concept" hehe, I didnt checked if
theres any security riscs in doing this. Could we add something like this
to dovecot?

trouble getting digest-md5 & ldap working
hi,
I am trying to set up dovecot with digest-md5 as authentication mechanism and
openldap as passdb.
My problem is ... that I just can't get it working. PLAIN authentication works
as expected, but no luck with digest-md5.
An excerpt from the two configuration files:
dovecot.conf:
--------CUT--------
auth = default
auth_mechanisms = plain digest-md5
auth_userdb = ldap

Setup help
I'd previously had dovecot running on a Debian server but recently
migrated to Suse. The nice, simple setup for dovecot on debian is not as
easy using the dovecot sources. My lack of experience I'm afraid! I'd
like to continue to use dovecot, especially as my current maildir
directories are all set up ready to be use again.
On suse (sles9) I have users authenticating by LDAP. In

major pop3+ldap problem with alpha3 and alpha4
hi,
For some of our customers we provide a pop3 access, and after an upgrade
to alpha3, it is not working anymore.
All of our data is ldap based and everything is working as before for
our IMAP customers, but our POP3 users fail.
Obviously the pop3 login process does not read the data correctly that
comes from ldap.
after enabling mail_debug, I saw the following error in our log:

Samba Share Mounts with Java
Hello,
I am developing a Java application that requires me to read from and write to a samba share. When developing in a windows environment this was not a problem. I mounted the share as "M:/", built a path to a file, checked if the file exists using the Java function file.exists(), and went on my merry way. Now I am developing in a Linux environment(SuSE 10). I mount the samba

"logins with UID ... are not permitted"
hi,
I've just upgraded our dovecot installation to the most recent debian
package (0.99.20050712) and now I'm running into some weird problems.
Virtual (LDAP based) users cannot login anymore, the logfile shows this:

dovecot: Aug 02 12:34:25 Error: Logins with UID 200 (user some.user) not
permitted (see first_valid_uid in config file)

Abuse of the syslog facility
Any unpriveledged user can abuse the syslog facility in an interesting
way. The following example is a good one that can put misleading
information in the logs.
-------------------------------
#include <syslog.h>
void main(void){
const char *mesg1 = "hda: read_intr: status=0x59 { SeekComplete
DataRequest Error } { UncorrectableError }, CHS=157/2/9, sector=2826\0";

PATCH: fix incorrect checking of syslog facility in sftp-server
hi, there is a typo like error in sftp-server.c - obviously
"log_facility" should be used in the comparison for '-f' option, not
"log_level". That way the error can't be ever printed because log_level is
always not equal to -1 there. However, using incorrect facility will trigger
"Unrecognized internal syslog level code ..." in log_init() later though

Any interest in a patch for setting the syslog facility for the ssh client?
Hello,
I recently made a change to the openssh ssh client code to allow
configuring the client syslog facility to use. I made the change in
openssh-6.6p1. If there is interest I can port the change to the openssh
portable github.
Cheers,
Ethan

Sorry, it came in just as we were prepping for the 7.5 release and we
generally only take bug fixes at that point. I've added it to the

Syslog facility in Linux
Hi !
While browsing Linux manpages (man 3 syslog) I noticed that the manual
says that the LOG_AUTH facility is deprecated use LOG_AUTHPRIV instead.
Is there a good reason why OpenSSH doesn't have an option to use
LOG_AUTHPRIV facility ? (Looks like that tcpd/telnet etc. use the AUTHPRIV
facility (in RH6.2)).
Shouldn't be too hard to add the AUTH_PRIV facility ?
Cheers,
-Jarno

Any interest in a patch for setting the syslog facility for the ssh client?
To revive this thread - I filed a bug in bugzilla.mindrot.org ( Bug 2705 -
https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2705 ).
I have a patch attached to the email that implements this as well. I wasn't
able to find a list of coding standards or contribution guidelines for
OpenSSH, so please correct me if I'm wrong. I'd also like to thank Jakuje
for helping me out with some info on

Any interest in a patch for setting the syslog facility for the ssh client?
Darren,
Thanks, evidently I need to practice my reading skills. I did some practice
on the style guide, and I believe that I have the patch fixed up per the
style guidelines. I've attached the new patch to this email for review.
Cheers,
Ethan
