Fwd: Received dates problem in Outlook after migration
Having looked at this again, I think I have a hypothesis:
1. Outlook is ignoring the date/timestamps on the files in my Maildirs
2. The file names of my transferred files follow a similar pattern
(they start with near-identical numbers)
3. Dovecot's file naming scheme for mails must relate somehow to the
date that they were created / transferred / received
4. If I can therefore

Dovecot response to "FETCH" command
Hi folks.
I just converted my site from UW+mbox to dovecot+maildir (stable-test59,
2005/02/25). For the most part, everything is great. The server seems
faster and less memory intense than the UW server (this part has made me
very happy). And it's definitely more user friendly to me than Courier.
There is one thing however...
A few of my users are using the web based mail reader

Received dates problem in Outlook after migration
Hello everyone,
I've just started using 1.0-beta3 on Ubuntu Dapper, having migrated
from an mbox / UW-IMAP combination to a Maildir / Dovecot one. For
some reason the mb2md tool failed to recognise some of my mbox files as
valid ones, so I migrated my email by running UW-IMAP, copying my
folders to local storage in Evolution, then running Dovecot instead and
copying the folders back.

My sub-folder with Outlook work-around to date
Hi David,
I somehow remember that there is a way to get the mail_location from per-user-settings. I had this once when migrating from maildir to mdbox.
You might want to use Google and the mailing list archives for the details but in summary it went like this:
- set Dovecot to grab the mail_location from user-settings (I think we used MySQL db field - or check docs for auto:)
- have login

My sub-folder with Outlook work-around to date
Wow excellent feedback Joseph, Philon and Aki,
You have all pointed me in the right direction. Tonight I have tested
Dovecot with just the minor configs I do for Dovecot setup and I have
commented out the mbox/Maildir lines in 10-mail.conf from my testing:
#mail_location =
#mail_location = mbox:~/mail:INBOX=/var/spool/mail/%u
#mail_location = maildir:~/Maildir
I had run up some test files

receive date wrong in outlook
hi,
we migrate from exchange to dovecot. we do it with imapsync. first we
try to do it with --syncinternaldates, but this fails on many messages
with invalid date, so we drop this option. unfortunately after this
those users who use outlook see the received date as the date we do the
migration in stead of the real received date. other clients eg webmail,
thunderbird etc sees the right date. so my

MBOX to Maildir preserving the UIDL (outlook-tested, no redownloading)
TESTED AND RUNNING, MIGRATING from MBOX to MAILDIR, PRESERVE UID and OUTLOOK
sees the email as downloaded.
I hope this helps a lot of people out there.
Feel free to post this somewhere else too.

My sub-folder with Outlook work-around to date
Thanks for the reply MJ.
Good to hear it works in MailDir format - might need to look at this.
To date I have only had this issue with Outlook and for me personally on
Fedora with Thunderbird, I tend to keep a heap of e-mail folders without
sub-foldering and have my own little Linux 'utopia' of annually
archiving folders etc using the Linux scripting environment, so I never

batch convert mbox to maildir
Hello,
I have used mb2md for an individual user like this:
su ~username
cd ~
./mb2md -m
This converted /var/spool/mail/username mbox to
/home/users/username/Maildir just as I expected.
To convert 100s of users the same way would be a chore (su as each user
for permissions, etc.).
Is there a way to batch process all /var/spool/mail/$USER to
/home/users/$USER/Maildir with the correct

Outlook 2003 and Thunderbird IMAP + getting new headers
Hi,
We run 1.1.3 and I use Outlook to connect to my IMAP box and a couple of
times per day (randomly) when I click certain folders IMAP will start
retrieving ALL headers for that folder again ('retrieving new headers')!
I don't understand this. What triggers IMAP to do so, why not just retrieve
only the NEW headers?
Is it Dovecot or Outlook (probably) and what can be done

mbox to maildir batch conversion
Hello,
I'm upgrading my mail server from UW to Dovecot and I'd like to convert
from mbox to maildir. I've successfully convert myself and a few other
users with the mb2md script. All is well.
My question is, I have somewhere around 500 users and about 122gb of
mail folders to convert (this does not include the inbox at /var/mail).
mb2md needs to be run as each user to convert.

Understanding migrateuser.sh
I'm sure it comes from my being a gormless idiot, but whatever is the
-UKWS argument immediately after the mb2md.pl invocation?

As always, reading the idiom of someone else's scripting is an
education. And some of it wouldn't work with native AIX sh/ksh, so
changed the functions:

Convert plugin
Hi,
I'm trying to convert users from a sendmail server to a postfix/dovecot
server. All works fine but one of the last things is to rescue the
messages in /var/mail/<user> on the old server. This seems very
straitforward using the convert plugin but with the settings from the
wiki, nothing happens when the user logs in. Do I need a private
namespace for this as suggested elsewhere

Outlook 2013 not fetching new mail/synchronization issues
Hi all,
Dovecot 2.2.10 CentOS 6 64 bit.
We are having terrible synchronization issues with Outlook 2013 (all
updates) on Windows 7 SP1 and 8.1 hosts (all updates).
Scenario:
1. Emails were sent since user closed Outlook
2. Next day: start computer, open outlook
3. No new email (even though email were sent overnight)
4. half a day later Outlook fetches

Converting mbox to Maildir, all prior read messages are downloaded as new
I am running dovecot 0.99. Everything works great; however, now I am
looking at several different tools to convert mbox to Maildir. It seems
the tools, mb2md.pl, perfect_maildir.pl, and others all do what they
claim; however, when the messages are converted and they are stored in
Maildir/cur, the email clients download these messages as new.
This typically wouldn't be a problem;

You can give mail location and home directory from userdb or passdb.
For userdb, return mail=something:~/something and for home use home=/path/to/home
For passdb, you can return userdb_mail and userdb_home

dovecot rpms, .subscriptions file, mbox to maildir
Hi,
I am running dovecot 0.99-14 on a Fedora Core 2 machine. I had a few
questions:
1) I wanted to upgrade to the dovecot-1.0 release. However, I am not
sure if that's really required. dovecot-0.99-14 has been running very
well for me for quite some time. Is there a real advantage to switching
to the latest release. The reason I'm asking this is because:
i) I don't have too

Message index corruption when using Thunderbird and Dovecot
Hi all,
I have recently upgraded from UW-IMAP to Dovecot 1.0.beta3 on Redhat9. I
migrated my mailbox to from Mbox to Maildir using the mb2md perl script,
and created a procmail recipe file to get email arriving in the Maildir
directories. However, when accessing my mailbox from Thunderbird
(version 1.5), it occasionally mixes up the email header with the email
content. I also occasionally
