run scripts on samba server
Hi all, I have a network with Win95 clients and a samba-server 1.9.18p3 on Linux 2.033. Linux is only used as serversystem, clientusers are nonfamiliar with Linux. Sometimes it would be usefull, to start a program or script on the server from the client. This can be done via telnet, but I'd like to know if there is some sort of call implemented in samba to start a script on the server

Invalid argument with version 3.1.3
We reently upgraded our rsync client from Freebsd 10.2 to 11.2 which upgraded our rsync from 3.0.6 protocol version 30 to 3.1.3 protocol version 31. The server remains Freebsd 11.1 with rsync 3.1.2 protocol version 31. Now we get numerous messages like this: rsync: readlink_stat("/disk/homedirs/nber/bstevens/public_html/old/test/press reaction/Foreign

print server performance issues
I'm migrating a 1.000 queues windows print server with AD very critical enviroment to linux/cups/samba solution. Initially, everything working fine, but when reached paroximately 400 queues created the server is getting degradated. The browsing of printers shares is very low. Many times during the day smbd and winbindd need to be restarted to stop the degradation. I didn't found any

sambaRefuseMachinePwdChange policy
Hi, we have a couple of Linux RHEL 5 samba servers in a domain, one as PDC and the other as BDC, and both with LDAP backends samba version is 3.0.28-1 We want pc clients can't change their machine password using sambaRefuseMachinePwdChange policy, so we set it to 1 in LDAP But pc clients still can change their passwords, and we don't see any acces to sambaRefuseMachinePwdChange

RE: Audio broadcasting... (fwd)
Hi vorbis dudes, I've been trying to encourage vorbis use for a somewhat well known person who is doing a weekly internet "radio" program. I guess they are finding out that WMA isnt too cross platform :-) Was wondering if someone could help out with these questions... The encoding platform is windows... Is vorbis suitable for 33.6k/56k streaming yet? Would be a good opportunity

use of lm() and poly()
Hi all, I want to fit data called "metal" with a polynominal function as dP ~ a.0 + a.1 * U0 + a.2 * U0^2 + a.3 * U0^3 + a.4 * U0^4 The data set includes, the independant variable U0 and the dependant variable dP. I've seen that the combination of lm() and poly() can do that instead of using the nls() function. But I don't get how to interpret the results from the linear

aproximate a titration kurve to the measure data.
Halo i'm studying chemistry, today we made an experiment and i have to draw a titration kurve for my mess data. we can do it on a mm paper, or we can also use a programe. people from chemistry recomend "R" last year i studied civil eng. and we used Matlab, as I see, R ist very similar to it, but its got other comands. But i think R would be a good help for some exercises. so my

need help on nlme()
Hello there, I am using nlme() to fit a logistic mixed effect model on our data. The outcome variable is binary. I got the error when I wanted to add a group factor to my model. My initial model is as below: model.a <- nlme(response~ 1/(1 + exp( -intercept- u0 - slope*TIME - u1*TIME)), + fixed=intercept+slope~1, random= u0+u1~1 |studentID,

Duplicate filename with Samba 3.0.28
Hello, I'm having an odd problem that I can't find a resolution to. I have a Freebsd 6.2 server with recently upgrade samba software (from 3.0.26a) and an WinXP client. There's a single file: 1015280 -rw-r--r-- 1 userid staff 991M Jan 7 09:13 fbsdusb.img shared from \\server\tmp, that appears twice when browsed from WinXP. If I rename it (i.e. fbsdUSB.img or fbsdusb.iso) or

CentOS 6.0 and 3ware 9650SE series RAID Performance
Hello, Does anyone have experience using a 3ware 9650SE series raid controller on CentOS 6.0? I am getting very sporadic throughput with moderately sized files (0.5-2GB) on ext3. I have tried most of the mount time tuning options: * noatime * trying different journal types * setting commit=120 - helped a little Even after these optimizations it doesn't seem like the raid array is working

sequential t-test - replies
[my original message to s-news & r-help is attached ] No one possessed or knew of any S/R code for the sequential t-test. Also it doesn't appear in the SAS index. One or two suggested obtaining the S+ seqtrial software which may (or may not) cover this, but this seemed to be a bit of a "hammer to crack a nut". I have written a function based on the treatment in Wetheril

saving objects with embedded environments
Hello, I have been running linear regressions on large data sets. As 'lm' saves a great deal of extraneous (for me) data including the residuals, fitted.values, model frame, etc., I generally set these to NULL within the object before saving off the model to a file. In the below example, however, I have found that depending on whether or not I run 'lm' within another function or

dovecot.index.cache 1/3rd of INBOX size
I've noticed that my dovecot.index.cache file has got very large (24MB, which is more than 1/3 of my INBOX size). I've tried deleting (well, renaming) the dovecot.index.* files, and re-opening my INBOX, and the new dovecot.index.cache is only 90KB so far. I'm using dovecot-1.0-stable and mbox format. My mail_cache_fields and mail_never_cache_fields are set to the default. Looking

Pseudo-random numbers between two numbers
I would like to generate pseudo-random numbers between two numbers using R, up to a given distribution, for instance, rnorm. That is something like rnorm(HowMany,Min,Max,mean,sd) over rnorm(HowMany,mean,sd). I am wondering if dnorm(runif(HowMany, Min, Max), mean, sd) is good. Any idea? Thanks. -james
