Installing Java using jpackage.org's java-*-sun-compat RPMs
As requested on IRC, this is my proposed walkthough for installing Java on CentOS 4 using jpackage.org's compat-rpm method. Please review and comment. 1. make sure jpackage-utils is installed $ rpm -q jpackage-utils jpackage-utils-1.7.3-1jpp.2.el5 if it isn't already installed, you can install it using # yum install jpackage-utils The package is part of CentOS, so you don't need to

java packages - tomcat5?
Have the jpackage-packaged things like tomcat5 been moved into the disto repositories? Do they work with sun java? In particular, tomcat5 used to require jta. The one yum installs doesn't mention it now, but it also doesn't work with sun java 1.5 installed the jpackage way. What am I missing? -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell at gmail.com

Java package status?
Has this RH errata made it into Centos5 yet? http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2007-0365.html If so, what does it take to fix the problem of tomcat not running under Sun Java? Do you have to remove all packages that contain jars and reinstall them? -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell at gmail.com

Someone on the opennms mail list just mentioned that RHEL up2date now provides sun java. Is that a possibility for the Centos repositories? -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell at gmail.com

tomcat5 from jpackage 1.6 on cento4 w/java-1.4.2-sun-1.4.2.08-1jpp
Is there any documentation telling you whether tomcat5 was compiled against the 1.4.2 tree or the 1.5? You could try downloading the srpm, patching it to use the 1.4.2 java and then re-create your own rpm. Just a thought, might be an easier way though; will wait for the experts response. -----Original Message----- From: centos-bounces at centos.org [mailto:centos-bounces at centos.org] On

tomcat5 from jpackage 1.6 on cento4 w/ java-1.4.2-sun-1.4.2.08-1jpp
Is anyone running tomcat5 from jpackage 1.6 on cento4 w/ java-1.4.2- sun-1.4.2.08-1jpp ? I'm getting weird dependencies which don't make sense, notably: Error: Missing Dependency: jdk = 2000:1.5.0_02-fcs is needed by package java-1.5.0-sun-compat I want to use 1.4.2 not 1.5 and it doesn't make sense to have jdk = 2000:1.5.0_02-fcs, unless I'm missing something? I do have

xml-commons-jaxp-1.3-apis for Freemind?
I am working on installing Freemind (http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) on my new notebook. And it is not working... I downloaded all the rpms and put them into my local repo, enabled the jpackages repos then, well here is what is happening: yum install freemind* jcalendar* jgoodies-forms* Loading "installonlyn" plugin Loading "priorities" plugin

java-1.4.2-sun-compat
This is not specifically a CentOS question but it relates to a problem I am having on CentOS-3. I though someone here might have come across something similar before. I use the JPackage provided java-1.4.2-sun-compat but it has recently switched arch from noarch to i586. Yum understandably refuses to upgrade this package. Should I bother with yum or just upgrade it manually? John. --

java-1.4.2-gcj-compat.i386 update failure
Hmmm, I seemed to have created a misalignmnet somewhere along the line. I can't remember doing anything to this. But at one time I did try to test the java open source. Posted my results to the list, got no response, abandoned all hope and went on my merry way. I don't know if this is related. I have installed an rpm for a java needed by an application I run. It was from the official

VLAN issue
Less, You are 100% right. Of course I brought up my eth0 - but, like you said, with no IP. Meanwhile, I brought up eth0.48 with 192.168.48.100. However, until I would bring up eth0 with an IP address (any in the network) I would have no connection. Why? That's what I fail to understand. Boris. how to stop yum when networkmanager has broken resolv.conf?
Oh, and if you don't have killall installed, you can use: ps -ef | grep yum to get the pid and then use: kill -TERM pid or easier even is: kill -TERM `pid of yum` Chris On Fri, Feb 20, 2015 at 4:13 PM, Chris Stone <axisml at gmail.com> wrote: > try CTRL-Z to put that running process in your shell to sleep, then: > > bg 1 > > to put the process in the background.

Kickstarting several *different* setups
Tom: Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into those tools. Mark: Yes, they are using pxeboot. Right now when they boot up, the pxe config offers two options, 32- and 64bit. Are you suggesting I create multiple entries that one selects based on what the machine is going to be? Is there a way to have this done automatically so I don't have to physically have to do that for each machine,

Kickstarting several *different* setups
Gotcha. Thanks all! You guys gave me the answers I needed to know and hear. For the immediate futre I will likely go with multiple pxeboot options which then picks the specific kickstart file. It's easy for me to put a label on the server that says 'web' or 'mail' etc. Then just pick the same from the menu. Eventually I'll delve deeper into custom and automated setups. On
