asterix and phone system
I am currently looking at putting together an Asterisk PBX system for my home
office. One of the things I need is an expandable 2-line corded/cordless
phone system.
If I wasn't using Asterisk, I'd be getting one of these AT&T systems with 2
extra handsets.

xbox asterisk?
http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/pulpit20050512.html
interesting comment this week about the Xbox - any intelligent thoughts
here?
I know the price point puts it above most users Asterisk outlay (I run
mine on a $100 P3 -800)
But interesting to see what happens if people start running video
conferencing etc on their home asterisk servers, and lets face it where
else can you buy this

Kernel 2.4 / 2.6 and timer
I've read in different places that if I want to do trunking and
meetme on Asterisk I need to have a reliable timer. People have
recommended that I install a Digium board, even if I don't have any
circuits connected to it, just to get a reliable timer. However, I've
also read that if I'm using kernel 2.6, I don't need to have a Digium
board.
I have a few servers that

I know this is OT but I didn't read about it anywhere else and I don't
miss much so thought this may be of interest to other people on this

[1.1.1] Too much quantization on flat red surfaces
Hi,
I've tested Theora on an HD-ready material, with quality 7, single pass.
Resulting bitrate was 1.8Mb/s. Most parts of a movie encoded this way look
fine, usually better than a DVD, and in daylight scenes, have no noticeable
artifacts at all. But it seems that red surfaces are too much compressed;
blocking artifacts are clearly visible on them. Also, white people have
slightly smeared

Potential opportunity for open media...
Robert Cringely had an interesting item in his 2004 predictions:
12) Wal-Mart's entry into the music download business changes everything, and
will undoubtedly take the leadership away from Apple. This wouldn't bother
Apple if Wal-Mart would support its file standards so Wal-Mart music can play
on iPods, but that won't happen. In order to compete for what really counts

UK * group
Is there a UK Asterisk users group? Would be interested in contacting
others in the UK who use asterisk for either home or business
applications.
If there is, could someone provide me with some contact details, else
anyone who's also interested, contact me off list.
Cheers,
Ben Merrills

ncdf with opendap/dods support
Aloha,
I just made some quick hacks on the configure script with the 'ncdf'
package to make it link with the opendap/dods libraries (opendap.org)
rather than the netcdf api library. Basically, this allows a user to
interact in R with a remotely served dataset as if it were a netcdf file
on the local filesystem (read-only). Functionality with local files
should continue to work as

opendap/dods data retrieval
Hello,
I was wondering if there has been any progress in developing a package
for accessing opendap/dods data using R. I see from the list archive
that there was some initial work done on this.
Thanks,

Modyfing PATH in Windows Installer for R
Just a small suggestion since Windows have a file system not designed
for command line use...
Would it be possible to add the possibility of automatically
adding/modifying the path to the R executables in the windows installer
program?

files moved, copied files, operate in different ways
Hi, I have a problem with the way in which my friend manages the access
permissions to files. I have a server ldap, acls, samba.in a SLES9.

What's the best way to operate R from within Excel?
Hi all,
How do I operate R from within Excel?
I mean, highlight a bunch of cells, and send to R, and do some statistics in
R, and return back the numbers and do some plots in R.
For example, I have some parameters for Gaussian Random variable, and I
would find the most convenient way to send these numbers to R and do some
plots...
How to do that?
Thanks a lot!

Anyone gotten qemu to operate in bride network mode on centos 4
I have been asking on the qemu list how to get bridge network mode
working under centos 4... To no avail.
The following script is what I have tried as my /etc/qemu-ifup. It
supposedly worked for fedora.
#!/bin/sh

# qemu_up
#
# script to bring up the tun device in QEMU in bridged mode
#
# This script bridges eth0 and tap0. First take eth0 down, then bring it up with IP 0.0.0.0

Operate on registrations
Hi,
I have a bunch of SIP phones(behind NAT) registering on my * box. I want to find out when they
register and de-register. I also want to operate on it, so when they register/de-register, I want
to insert calldate into a mysql DB, etc.....
Maybe this will help me when, for instance a user tries to register but has the wrong username/password.
Now I am aware of regcontext, but it only

cannot get fuse-ssh to operate from a batch script - but does from cmd line
Hi there
I am wanting to call sshfs (auth via DSA keys) via a rsync pre-xfer bash
script, and cannot get something right. If I run it from the cmdline line:
env - sshfs usern@server:/share /dir/path -o -o IdentityFile=/tmp/id_dsa
it mounts it just fine. (note the "env -" - I specifically tested with
no environment to try to make the two situations identical). If I put

Cannot get two TE410Ps to operate correctly in the same machine
I've been running Asterisk for months with no problems. I have grown to
