similar to: Removed Plus kernel, yum still wants to update pluskernel

I am trying to get off the plus kernel. Hasn't helped yet, and my MadWifi does not work with it. So I used YUMEX to remove all of the plus kernel cruft that I could see. I rebooted. ONly the standard kernel was listed in the boot menu (good sign). Start up Yumex, and it is showing that the plus kernel needs updating. Nothing on the regular kernel. Just yum update behaves the same.

This is probably a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway (I do that - you all know... :-). Due to a bug I found in OOo 2.0, I moved to using OOo 2.3, back when I was still running CentOS 5.0. Now that I have upgraded to 5.1, yum wants to update my OOo from 2.3 BACK to 2.0. Is it possible to get yum to recognize that 2.3 is newer than 2.0, or should I just exclude OOo from the updates? After some enabling/disabling new repos (pgdg for PostgreSQL specifically) and admittedly some yum action that may have gone uncompleted, I am advised to run yum-complete-transaction. However, when I attempt to do this, yum warns that 225 packages will be erased, all of which I deeply care for. How can I safely back out of this situation?
