(no subject)
hi,
do somebody tell me, where i could find information about samba restrictions
compared with
Windows Server.
I' m trying to write a small paper for school, which describe a comarison
between samba and Windows Server.
I heard for example, that 1-Samba is not adapted for great nets?
2-Samba has not a "system management server" like windows?
3-Remote Procedure Calls (RPCs) has been

MSSQL activerecord uses bad syntax
Hi all,
I''m trying to get rails up on mssql for a friend, does anyone have
experience? We''re working on a Windows XP box with MSSQL 2000 (no
service pak), and both rails (1.1) and MSSQL are on the same box. I''m
running into a bug (I think) where activerecord is using this syntax:
SELECT TOP 1 * FROM users WHERE (users.user = ''jbgnuumnbu'')

Advice on picking a regression method
Dear R-users,
There are tons of methods out there for fitting independant variables to a
dependent variable. All stats books tell you about the assumptions behind
OLS (ordinary least squares) and warn against abusive use of the method
(which many of us do disregard by lack of a better knowledge). Most
introductory text books stop there and don't tell you what the next best
option might be. I

The Depot "Add to Cart" sessions question (2.ed agile book)
Hello,
Im in the process of working my way through the 2.ed of the agile book.
As many of you already know, the book goes through the regular
development cycle of the Depot application. I have hit a wall
when they started talking about the sessions and the exact mechanics of
how an item is added to the session.
The code looks like this:
depot/app/controllers/store_controller:

I've been fighting with joining my samba server (debian) to my active directory domain for 4 days now. The problem here is that users in my active directory domain on windows machines are not able to browse my samba shares without being prompted for authentication.
I can:
- Join the domain from samba server using net ads

Samba slowness
I am still struggling with how to fix up Samba on our network. I'm
running two samba servers. One with version 3.0.21b-1 on RH9, and
another with version 3.0.10-1.4E.6 on RHEL 4. Neither are pdc's, and there
is no pdc in the domain at all. The two networks are connected
across the country via an IPsec tunnel. Users on one network
access the other server have the same problem: after

Partial-Form validation from multiple pages (f.e. login-partial)
Hello - hard question:
I have my login-partial in my application.html.erb-layout.
Now I want to validate it, if the user pushes the submit button and
show error-messages for it, if e.g. the passwordfield is empty.
But how do I do that? For getting the error messages, I must use
render :action => ''create''
But there I have to know, from which action I came from. Beside

HVM VNC display greater than 1280x1024
Hi all,
first a lot of thanks to all the Xen developers ;)
Currently I''m displaying Windows XP by using VNC.
I''ve got both ''vnc=1'' in my Xen config file and
an "UltraVNC server" running inside the Windows XP
HVM.
(but I usually only connect to the UltraVNC server).
I''m not a VNC guru... Is it possible to somehow
have a Windows XP system

Problem using echolink and wine
Good day all,
I've been trying to make Echolink (a ham radio VOIP application) to
work under wine. The application currently fires up and runs just
fine. Heck it can even control my radio via the serial port (most
impressive). However i'm having no luck getting my line-in sound input
on the PC to be picked up by Echolink. Let me explain a bit of what
echolink does....

thin server processes slowly growing in RAM size
When I initially start up my server I have two thin processes running
that are only about 200M in size. They slowly creep up a few megs an
hour until now a week later they are at 400M and 300M respectively.
I realize that my site (http://wlodb.com) has some intensive pages that
take a couple seconds to render (most notably http://wlodb.com/compounds
) but I''m wondering if this is

{Samba4] Problem with Joining Samba3 to Samba4 AD Domain

I have reached the end of my rope and desperately need help.
I recently installed two Samba4 Active Directory Domain Controllers on

this domain and everything went well. I could authenticate users on samba3
server and could see all the groups in the domain, but I was having

seeding dev/random in 5.5
I was doing some regression testing in 5.5: Specifically testing booting
up a 'virgin' hard disk from a clean install.
I was testing what happened if the 300 second timeout happened vs
hitting <return> for 'fast+insecure' startup and punching in a bunch of
random garbage.
I found that for some reason, on a 2.4Ghz Celeron, the 'sysctl -a' and
'date' seeding
