compaq v2000 working with correct boot options and compaq r4000 still SLOWWW
Hi, I have a v2000 compaq laptop. The realtek network and USB on this machine was not working. After adding to grub.conf "acpi=off apci=off noacpi noapic" the v2000 realtek started working and the USB worked fine... Fantastic! So I thought I would try those same options on my r4000 laptop. they had no effect.... This AMD turion 64 4000+ rating laptop is still running SLOWWW...

compaq r4000 /proc/cpuinfo reports 997 and should be 2400
Hi I have a compaq R4000 with the 2.4GIG AMD 64 bit. 4000+ rated. proc cpuinfo reports cpu Mhz as 997.481 Do I have to run the 64 bit version to have things run correctly? I just have the normal 4.2 loaded at this time. The laptop seems slow for 4000+ as reflected by the cpu Mhz also. Any thoughts on running the 32 bit version of 4.2 vs the 64 bit version of 4.2? Jerry

compaq r4000 32 bit and 64 bit install
Gents, I first installed the 32 bit version (as you might have read) of centos 4.2, after downloading x86_64 the install process/progress is about the same. going VERY slow... The screen for formatting the partitions took a LONG time (3 partitions 10 GIG, 2 GIG swap and 50 GIG). While on that screen and moving the mouse it lagged big time and could not keep up. Anyway just reporting that so far

compaq R4000 update (hogging interrupts)
After a couple hours last night.... doing a "killall -SIGUSR1 cpuspeed" bumps up the /proc/cpuinfo information for cpu mhz to 2393 Mhz. I did notice a little increase after that. However, the machine is still sluggish. I did a "hdparm -c 1 /dev/hda" but really did not notice any difference. I tried to download fglrx64_6_8_0_8.16.20-1.x86_64.rpm from ati (also 8.20.8) and get

compact flash, fat, reduced knoppix and syslinux
Hi. I've recently picked up a 256MB compact flash card and CF->IDE adapter. I'm wanting to put a smaller version of knoppix on here. I came across miniknoppix here: http://www.inittab.org and decided to have a play around with that. So far I have opened up the ISO image and copied all the files out. I have put a boot sector onto the CF by putting the CF into the IDER adpater then

Chris, I have a compaq AMD r4000 x86_64. grabbing the latest kernel and compiling it fixed my clock skew. I have not had any slow disk issues. again the kernel may help doing the command: killall -SIGUSR1 cpuspeed makes the CPU run faster. Hope that helps. Boot/init problem with IBM Netfinity 4500
I hope the CentOS people don't mind me cross-posting for their input. I've just done a clean, text-mode minimal WBEL4 install on an IBM Netfinity 4500, essentially the same hardware as an xSeries 340. The install went fine but now the box will boot, run through the initrd init sequence, perform its switchroot then hang here... SELinux: Initializing. SELinux: Starting in permissive mode
