plotting on an image
Hello all,
has someone please a few hints about how to
1.st: draw an image (preferrably a jpg) and then
2nd: plot() on that image
I am using a mac - and after searching and trying different ways (I have installed EBImage) I now would like to ask for help...
Thanks!

Creating a plot with an image as background
I want to create a plot of positions (x(t),y(t)) of animals in a barn for t=1,2,... (I have in mind creating many of these, saving them as png's and combining them into a small movie). I have an image file showing the physical layout of the barn, and I would like to have that image as background for the plots. Can that be done in R (easily) or is that something I should do outside of R using

Colors and legend on a scatterplot?
Hello
I am new to R and I cannot overcome the 2 problems
1.Defining my own color scale for a value on a scatterplot
2.Adding legend showing values for colours
I have a set of points in area of my research with coordinates X and Y and
a value which I would like to show with colors.
#values for points are residuals from regression

Positioning a legend via X and Y coordinates
Dear R Users,
I'm able to display a legend using the following code:
> legend("topright", c("Simulation", "Observation"), fill=2:3, bty="n")
However, this causes the legend to be positioned too close to the bars in my barplot. I'd like to move the legend up slightly. I have been trying to determine the necessary values by trial and error to do

Using an image background with graphics
I would like to use a map or aerial photo as a background to plotting
solid lines and text, and semi-transparent color contours, in base and
lattice graphics. Plot coordinates need to be consistent with the
georeferenced background. For example, a color contour plot would have
an gray-toned aerial photograph as a background for overprinted
semi-transparent color contours of some spatially

Remote form and input type=image x, y coordinates problem
Hi, everyone!
I''ve encountered a problem with form_remote_tag not passing all the
parameters a "normal" form would pass. When the submit tag is an image
(image_submit_tag), the form usually submits the x and y coordinates
where the click was made, but form_remote_tag ommits them. I guess it''s
because the it?s using JavaScript to serialize the form elements.

Alignment of image plot overlay
I'm having trouble with alignment of a trend line overlayed onto an image
plot. The two should be plotted on the same x-axis (time-series). However,
the trend line begins about an inch into the image plot x-axis and ends
about an inch off of end of the image plot. Once I have the alignment
sorted, I need to put a secondary y-axis on the image plot which is scaled
for the trend line. An

Using locator() to digitise
Hi Folks,
I'm contemplating using locator() to digitise external
graphics. To set context, I would be using X11 display
on Linux.
To pre-empt the obvious comment: I've found on the R site
the suggestion to use the 'pixmap' package. I've tried
this, and it works; but it involves building a big R
object (the internal pixmap representation), and this
chokes my somewhat puny

Digitizing the Plot
Hi R,
Wanted to check if there are any packages available for getting the
(x,y) data points of a graph or a plot, which is in the image format.
Say, the plot could be a published report, and I want to get the points
of the curve plotted. (I am speaking something related the subject
discussed in http://www.uniphiz.com/digitizing.htm)
Thanks,
Shubha

combination of scatterplot and image graph
Dear R users,
I'm interested in a combination of a scatterplot and an image graph.
I have two large vectors. Because in the scatterplot some areas are
sparsely and others densely populated, I want to see the points, and
I also want their color to be changed based on their density (similar
to a heat map). Is there a function that can do that?
Thank you,
b.

HELP: how to add weight to a [x,y] coordinate
Anyone who can help me with the following question?
How can I add weight to [x,y] coordinates on a graph/scatterplot?
Background:
Monte Carlo simulation generated 730,000 [x,y] coordinates with a weight attached (from 0-0.5).
Both x and y are rounded and fit on a raster with x-axis 0-170 months (smalles unit = 1 month) and y-axis 0-6 (smallest unit=0.1).
I would like every [x,y] to add its

Scatterplot Showing All Points
Hello all,
I'm trying to graph a scatterplot of a large (5,000 x,y coordinates) of data
with the caveat that many of the data points overlap with each other (share the
same x AND y coordinates). In using the usual "plot" command,
> plot(education, xlab="etc", ylab="etc")
it seems that the overlap of points is not shown in the graph. Namely, there

transforming output of grid.locator() to coordinates of a leaf viewport
Short form:
How do I transform the output of grid.locator() (or
grid.locator(unit='npc')) to the native (or npc) coordinates of a viewport other
than the top-level viewport?
Thanks in advance. -Ben
Long form:
I would like the user to be able to click anywhere on the R
graphics window. I would then like to figure out which leaf viewport the user
clicked in and compute the native

Coordinates of the text region
Hello R people
Is there a way to get the coordinates of the text region (coordinates of the four corners for example) when using the text function? I'm looking for a way that does not make use of interactive function like locator. My goal is to determine the position of other structures in a graphic so that they don't overlap with the text.
Thanks

coordinates from locator function in POSIXct format
Dear R-list,
I have a plot with y-axis corresponding to wind measurments
and x-axis with date-time information.
When I want to identify some extrem wind events in the
wind-curve, I use locator() to get the exact
date-information, by clicking in the points in graph I?m
interested in.
I get in the R console the x and y coordinates.
The x coordinates are not in a POSIXct format, I guess R is

(x,y) coordinates for grid.text()
All,
When using grid.text it seems my supplied (x,y) coordinates are being
plotted only in npc (normalized parent coordinates) where (.5,.5) is the
center of the graph. How do I allow (x,y) to be coordinates corresponding
to the (x,y) values in the graph? The examples in ?grid.text seem to do
this. (I think the problem lies in how x and y are defined with respect to
unit ). Any help much

x/y coordinates of dendrogram branches
Dear R-users,
I need some help concerning the plotting of dendrograms for hierarchical
agglomerative clustering.
The agglomeration niveau of each step should be displayed at the
branches of the dendrogram.
For this I need the x/y coordinates of the branch-agglomerations of the
dendrogram.
The y-values are known (the heights of the agglomeration), but how can I
get the x-values?

scatterplot function - double check: dashed lines
Hello everyone,
This is just a quick double check. It concerns the 'scatterplot function' in R.
I have 6 curves and I wish to represent each of them by a different kind of line (their colour must be black).
The curves are derived from the cuminc function...the coordinates of which are in 'xx'.
Upon reading the documentation in R, it looks like I can use the 'on/off'

Labelling individual points on 3D PCA scatterplot
Hi There,
I'm attempting to plot 10 values on a three-dimensional PCA with text labels
next to each point. While i have no trouble doing this on 2D plots using the
'text' or 'textxy' function, I cannot find a function to do this on a 3D
plot.
I am using princomp for my PCA:
>PCA<-princomp(eucdata, cor=TRUE)
>PCA$scores [,1:3] # the three principal components i
