Help: problem converting character to numeric
Dear R experts, I have a dataframe imported from a csv file (with read.csv). Here is an example: yyyymm<- c("19860228", "19860331","19860430","19860531") id<-c("10000","10000","10000","10000") re<- c("C","0.25", "0.98", "1.34") mret<-data.frame(yyyymm, id, re)

hello all: I would like to thank those who helped me out of the string problem..but now I got another problem. I used R to query from SQL and got a list of crsp_fundno of G-style mutual funds which is still alive. I use the following codes and got what I want: library(RODBC) channel<-odbcConnect("CRSPFUND") g.crspfundno<-sqlQuery(channel,"select crsp_fundno from Fund_style

How to implement lowerReturn for poring GlobalISel to RISCV?
Hi LLVM developers, Thank Daniel Sanders, Aditya Nandakumar and Justin Bogner's Tutorial[1]: Head First into GlobalISel about how to port, and Aditya took BPF target as a simple instance: bool BPFCallLowering::lowerReturn(MachineIRBuilder &MIRBuilder,                                   const Value *Val, unsigned VReg) const {   assert(!Val == !VReg && "Return value

Serial port communication
Hi folks I've been trying to programm some devices which need a serial port win-app http://a-m-c.com/download/software/amcds3-7-6.zip but can't get it to work :S wine can run it without problem until the serial port is activated. I read about making the link to the port and I created on "dosdevices" folder. I'm not sure what's the next step, does anyone have an idea?

xerbla called from BLAS routine (PR#8100)
Full_Name: G?ran Brostr?m Version: R-2.1.1, 2.2.0 OS: Debian unstable Submission from: (NULL) (213.65.9.59) Some BLAS routines call xerbla for error messages, which results in a message like "LAPACK routine DGER gave error code -9". Suggested solution: In void F77_NAME(xerbla)(char *srname, int *info) { /* srname is not null-terminated. It should be 6 characters. */ char

EMM: how to make forecast using EMM methods?
Hi all, We followed some books and sample codes and did some EMM estimation, only to find it won't be able to generate forecast. This is because in the stochastic volatility models we are estimating, the volatilities are latent variables, and we want to forecast 1-step ahead or h-step ahead volatilities. So it is nice to have the system estimated, but we couldn't get it to forecast at

Graceful exit from fortran.
Is there a way to exit gracefully from dynamically loaded Fortran, (several layers down), if an error condition is detected? I.e. suppose I'm within a subroutine called by a subroutine, ..., called by .Fortran(); I want to give up gracefully if an error condition is detected. If I say something like if(x .gt. 42.d0) stop then indeed everything stops, i.e. R falls over. I'd

Possible buglet (wart ?) of odfWeave 0.7.6 (with workaround)
Dear List, I have had problems inserting some (not all !) figures via odfWeave (using print(someLatticeFunction)...). The figure was correctly displayed in a R device window but the resulting ODF document displayed the correct space for the figure and an empty frame with a "broken image" icon and a "read error" mention. Exploration of the odf (.odt, in my case) file showed

FYI : XML 3.4.2 still breaks odfWeave 0.7.17
Dear list, perusing the GMane archive shows that the issue with XML 3.4.x still bugs odfWeave users. I just checked that the newer XML 3.4.2 version still give the same problem. Using it to weave a bit of documentation written with LibreOffice 3.3.3 (current in Debian testing) leads me to a 192 Kb, 590 pages document, whereas reinstalling XML 3.2.0 gives me a 4 pages, 24Kb file (not

R problems with lapack with gfortran
Hi, I have tried to pinpoint potential problems which could lead to the LAPACK issues that are currently seen in R. I built the current R trunk using AR=gcc-ar RANLIB=gcc-ranlib ./configure --prefix=$HOME --enable-lto --enable-BLAS-shlib=no --without-recommended-packages and used this to find problem areas. There are quite a few warnings that were flagged, due to mismatches in function

REPOST: Musings on Rails and logging philosophies
[OK, since I stupidly posted this over the July 4th week[end] and got no responses, let''s try it again...] As a perpetual Rails dabbler, I make an awful lot of typical beginner mistakes. And the logs are always either too verbose or too sparse to help me. And it started me thinking. I came from one of the largest production OLTP systems in the world, and the one thing that helped

(S|odf)weave : how to intersperse (\LaTeX{}|odf) comments in source code ? Delayed R evaluation ?
Dear list, Inspired by the original Knuth tools, and for paedaogical reasons, I wish to produce a document presenting some source code with interspersed comments in the source (see Knuth's books rendering TeX and metafont sources to see what I mean). I seemed to remember that a code chunk could be defined piecewise, like in Comments... <<Chunk1, eval=FALSE, echo=TRUE>>=

How to mask or escape "=" in Windows command prompt?
I have defined a function with several arguments and have it stored in the .RData file. The 'function head' is defined as follows EstimALIConc <-function(sdname,SZ,W,farea,watri,biomodel,start.part=1,nparts=20,method=c("optim","DEoptim")) { [ blah-blah-blah ] (function body doesn't matter) } Then I call Rscript: e:> rscript --restore -e
