[AAF] remote indexing via DRb with acts_as_ferret
Hi!
Aaf trunk has undergone several major refactorings the last days, with
the result that you can now transparently switch your app from local
to remote indexing and back :-)
If you plan to scale your app to more than one physical machine, or
if you have problems with corrupted indexes and the like under high
load, you really should give this a try.
I wrote some documentation to get you

Cacti - Monitor Ferret Server Stats?
I''m wondering if someone can point me in a direction to monitor the
ferret drb server while using cacti.
Is it possible to run multiple instances of ferret drb on the same
machine, just on different ports? Will it still update the index
properly, or will you get collision? New to moving over to the drb
server.
Thanks.

Search result inconsistencies due to indexing
I seem to be having problems with getting my searcher to be consistent
while indexing. I am running the latest version of ferret (0.10.13) and
I am using the Searchable plugin. Currently the way it indexes is by
using a callback in the model of either after_update or after_create to
index the fields that I have setup to be indexed.
Right now I update the index about once every 4 or 5

RDig and AAF playing together
I have a site with two indexes. Index A is created offline by RDig
and queried from the web via RDig (specifically,
RDig.searcher.search). Index B is managed by AAF with :remote =>
true. Simple enough. However, I need to query both indexes from RDig.
Usually this is ok, as I modified RDig to accept an array of
search_paths with an element for index A and index B.
However, when Index

acts_as_ferret limit on multi_search not working?
I''m using acts_as_ferret to do a query like this:

No matter what number i set limit to I get 10 items in the resultset. Am
I doing something wrong?

how to get the words of a query
Hi,
Using aaf to search pages, I wanted to present excerpts from the texts
even when more than one term was used in the search.
I came to some results, despite the difficulty caused by Unicode+ruby.
The last problem I''m faced is to get the query words, without the
logical articulation chars if any.
Is there a clean way to get them ?

[0.10.0] Index#search is not thread safe ?
This script (http://pastie.caboo.se/10371) give this result :
"1"
"0"
"0"
"0"
Why the other thread does not have the same result ?
Maybe, it''s not the correct way to use the index in a multi threaded
environement but I don''t know how to do.
Any ideas ?

programatically stopping acts_as_ferret drb server
I need a way to kill the ferret_server drb process programatically, so I
can start/stop it as part of the capistrano deployment process.
This should be as simple as adding some sort of stop method to
ActsAsFerret::Remote::Server. I was just messing around and was able to
do it by modifying method_missing to look for the :stop method and then
calling DRb.thread.exit -- this is not good enough for

No search results using Searcher
I just started using Ferret and I successfully indexed some documents. I
can search this index using the following code:
index = Index::Index.new(:path => path)
index.search_each("something") do |doc, score|
print "##{doc} #{index[doc][''url'']} - #{score}"
print "\n"
end
However, when I try to use Search::Searcher and QueryParser

Hi guys,
Is there some way of getting ferret matches string, when i do a fuzzy
search?
The scenario is this:
1. The user search for ''show''
2. Nothing was found
3. So I do a fuzzy search, passing ''show~''
4. It gives me somes results, most of all was matched with ''showcase''
5. So I want to tell the user that: Nothing was found with

Inifinite loop problem with DRb server
Hi all,
We''re attempting to use Ferret with the DRb server at the moment, and
it doesn''t work, at all...
= Executive Summary
The DRb server process keeps on calling the remote index to the DRb
server process... Which means DRb is calling itself, and itself, and
itself, until Ruby kills the Thread with a SystemStackLevel error.

index browser inconsistent with IndexReader
Hi,
We have an index of around 1M web pages as part of our web app. The
app uses ferret by way of RDig to perform searches. We have noticed
anecdotally that some searches don''t work the way we thought they
should, as if documents were missing from the index. Yesterday we
came upon a concrete instance of this.
Our documents have several fields, one of which is called :keywords

DRb server & aaf gem
I''m having problems getting the DRb server running with the aaf gem.
I tried it with the plugin installed in my application, and it
worked. I suspect the problem has something to do with the startup
scripts expecting certain files to be in certain relative file paths.
Any insights are appreciated, and maybe if you have time you can
update the wiki document :)
Thanks for a great

aaf requires drb?
Hi,
I''ve just read some an article
(http://www.jroller.com/BrightCandle/entry/oversights_in_rails_plugins_really.)
This article (and the comment,) seem to imply that drb is required if
running under a fastcgi kind of deployment. Is this true?
Thanks,
Chris.
ps this is for a different server then my previous question.

acts_as_ferret, DRb, and filter_proc
I was just trying to use acts_as_ferret with DRb and filter_proc,
without much success. My guess is that this isn''t possible because
there''s no way to send the proc to the DRb server, correct?
Person.find_by_contents("jonathan", :filter_proc => proc {}) causes an
exception when using DRb (DRb::DRbConnError: DRb::DRbServerNotFound).
I can work around this by

Strange Problem with AAF DRB connection

Has anyone else had this problem? Here is some code I am trying to use it

Question on Deploying a Ferret DRb server
(Sorry if some people see this twice. I originally posted this question
from ruby-forum.com, but didn''t realize that the Ferret forum was a
mirror and that I actually wasn''t a member.)
Anyway,
I''ve read all the documentation I could find, and read most of this
forum, but I''m a still a little confused on running a ferret DRb server.

strange behavior after switching to DRb server
After switching to the DRb server, I am experiencing strange behavior
when sorting on score. My app was working as expected before the switch.
Both before and after the switch, my app sorts properly on other
fields, such as date.
For sorting on score, I am using the following option
find_by_contents option:
:sort => Ferret::Search::SortField::SCORE
Before switching to DRb, this worked
