UK Rates for RoR Contract work?
Hi all,
I''ve been offered a short-term contract here in the North of England -
around 3 months work, but with RoR I think it will take considerably
less time - and am just curious what market rates were right now.
I''ve been offered a little under ?1k/week which seems ''right'' for a PHP
coder doing this kind of work, but should I be hitting for more, or is

Fixture accessors broken for polymorphism, in need of redesign
Ticket 4052 (http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/4052) just came through
trac, which introduces the need for a better way to access fixtures. I
believe the basic problem is the same as 3935
(http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/3935) in that the accessor method
which is constructed by the fixture call can''t infer the class name
from the table name. The band-aid in 3935 was to allow you to

Fixtures and unit tests - no such file to load
Hello all,
I''m having some issues with my test fixtures and unit tests and am
hoping somebody has an idea about how to fix it.
Background:
I have a table in my legacy database called tp_approval_step.
For this table I have a fixture called tp_approval_step.yml
I have a model called ApprovalProcessStep that uses set_table_name
''tp_approval_step''
In my test file,

RSpec book?
<http://www.apress.com/book/bookDisplay.html?bID=10368>
Came across this as a stub page browsing Amazon UK. This is good
news! I''m surprised it hasn''t been discussed on the list before.
Was Chad keeping it a secret?
I hope it will have plenty of BDD theory. I''m still waiting for that
magic book I can give to someone and say "here - read this, it

autoloading LoadError: Expected known_ip.rb to define KnownIp
Hello, i have a problem with autoloading model classes.
I have had similar problems before when a file''s name in Rails'' opinion
did not match with the name of the class defined inside, but eventually
everything worked, so i didn''t look into details.
This time the problem comes from running Unit Tests and does not want to
go away.
I have a model class KnownIP defined in

Rails without a db - how to run tests
I''m writing a simple app that doesn''t need to use a database. I added
:active_record to the config.frameworks -= line in environment.rb
file. This lets me run ./script/generate fine without complaining
about no connection. However if I try to run a functional test, it
complains about no connection being established. Well...I don''t want
a connection to be established.

Installing a standalone package of rails
I recently downloaded a standalone package of rails, release 0.12.1
(.zip) but I don''t know how to install. When I unzip, I get a lot of
-sometimes empty- folders. Should I copy these folders? If so, where
should I copy them?
I hope you can help me!

rspec and set_table_name?
Hi there
I have a Value class in my Rails app; however ''values'' is a reserved
word in MySQL so in my value.rb file, I''ve declared set_table_name as
''vals''.
However, in setting up my specs for this model, I''m hitting errors
that seem to be resulting from rspec not seeing the set_table_name
declaration in my model file.
For instance,

to_parm and how it can be used in a helper
is there a way to pass the data returned by the to_parm function in a
helper?
i followed the info provided at
http://www.jroller.com/obie/entry/seo_optimization_of_urls_in and am
able to successfully get the correct urls, now i want to be able to get
the same (id-whatever) text and pass it to a helper function for further
processing.
Any ideas as to how this can be achieved?

Pay rates for Rails developers
Does anyone have an idea of the rates being charged by Rails developers
(or salaries for FTEs)?
I''m curious to see whether rates will become comparable to those paid to
more experienced Java/.NET developer types, or if rates will be lowered
by the free/open source mentality, and the possible perception that
Rails makes Web development "easy."
Sometimes rates are more

reusing partials
Might be asking a daft question or missing something obvious here as
I''m a bit of noob at this, I''ve got the code below in a partial and am
using it to display and attach skills to degrees which is working
fine, I now need to do exactly the same thing for interests and was
wondering if there is any way to pass the partial a parameter which I
can then some how be used to replace

Putting fixtures into subdirectories
I want to organize my fixtures just like the namespace of my models. So
for example if I have a model Company::Employee I''d like the fixture to
be in fixtures/company/employees.yml.
However, I can''t figure out how to specify the path of the fixture file.
If I do:
fixtures :employees
in my unit test it can''t find the fixture file. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Todd

Error loading fixtures with classes that set_table_name
Hi all,
I just hit a big wall involving a legacy database. I''ve got an active
record class called "School" that uses "set_table_name ''old_school''" to
map to a legacy database table:
class School < ActiveRecord::Base
set_table_name ''old_school''
end
It works great, until I''m testing and I want to use fixtures.

Problem with RSpec in legacy databases
Hello.
I am a newbie with BDD.
I am trying to use RSpec with some legacy tables and I use the
set_table_name method in the models.
The name of the table and the class doesn´t match.
It seems that there is no problem to load the fixture in Test::Unit, I
will use the method set_fixture_class before loading fixtures, and I
will get to the data in the fixture without problems.
But this doesn´t seem
