Embedded nuls in strings
Hi,
?rawToChar
'rawToChar' converts raw bytes either to a single character string
or a character vector of single bytes. (Note that a single
character string could contain embedded nuls.)
Allowing embedded nuls in a string might be an interesting experiment but it
seems to cause some troubles to most of the string manipulation functions.
A string with an embedded 0:

broken network-support for netBSD-domUs?
Hello.
I recently tried installing NetBSD-5 on xen-4.0.1-rc5, which resulted in no network (xennet0 can''t get IPs per dhclient and has no connectivity if set by hand).
Tried it with netBSD-5.1-RC3-1 i386 PAE & amd64, netBSD-5.0 and even 4, all with the same result.
On a older xen version (3.3.1) networking works fine, so I assume it''s a xen bug, and not a netBSD-kernel

Wald test and frailty models in coxph
Dear R members,
I am new in using frailty models in survival analyses and am getting
some contrasting results when I compare the Wald and likelihood ratio
tests provided by the r output.
I am testing the survivorship of different sunflower interspecific
crosses using cytoplasm (Cyt), Pollen and the interaction Cyt*Pollen
as fixed effects, and sub-block as a random effect. I stratified

How can I make a list using aggregate function?
Hi friends,
I need to generate a list, that should contain the quantile value of one
column in a data frame. while I am compiling this one i am facing one bug,,
Really I cannot find out that where the problem has occurred? Could any one
help me to come out from this bug??
Here is the code,

Interpretation of gam intercept parameter
Dear All:
I apologize for asking such an elementary question, but I could not find an adequate response on line. I am hoping to receive some help with the interpretation of the Intercept coefficient in the gam model below.
I1 through I3 are dummy coded "Item difficulty" parameters in a data set that includes 4 items. If the Intercept is the value of Y when all other terms are 0, am I

Problems with weight
Until a weeks ago I used stata for everything.
Now I'm learning R and trying to move. But, in this stage I'm testing R
trying to do the same things than I used to do in stata whit the same
outputs.
I have a problem with the logit, applying weights.
in stata I have this output

survexp with weights
Hello,
I probably have a syntax error in trying to generate an expected
survival curve from a weighted cox model, but I can't see it. I used
the help sample code to generate a weighted model, with the addition
of a "weights=albumin" argument (I only chose albumin because it had
no missing values, not because of any real relevance). Below are my
code with the resulting error

Bug in update()? (PR#6902)
Dear all,
I noticed the following while playing around with fitting log-linear
models to contingency tables using R 1.8.1, but the problem also
exists under R 1.9.0.
A reproducible example uses the following contingency table:
> library(MASS)
> data(quine)
> tmp <- with(quine, expand.grid(Eth=levels(Eth), Sex=levels(Sex),
+ Lrn=levels(Lrn), Age=levels(Age)))

Data arrangement for PLSDA using the ropls package
Hello,
I would like to do a partial least square discriminant analysis (PLSDA) in R using the package "ropls"
Which is in R available via the R command :
source("https://bioconductor.org/biocLite.R")
I try to do a PLSDA to illustrate the impact of two genders (AP,C) on 5 compounds measured in persons (samples) should be illustrated. When I try to do a PLSDA I get the warning

density function cannot work well on UNIX R version 2.13.
Hi, there,
I found density function?cannot work well on UNIX.R
version 2.13.1 (2011-07-08), Platform: i386-pc-solaris2.10 (32-bit)
Here is an example from R doucments which can work well on other version.
plot(density(c(-20,rep(0,98),20)), xlim = c(-4,4))#
But right now the estimated probablity =0 for all point.
Do I need do something about float point?
Thanks.

step function
Hello I am using the step function in order to do backward selection for a
linear model of 52 variables with the following commands:
object<-lm(vars[,1] ~ (vars[,2:(ncol(predictors)+1)]-1))
BackS<-step(object,direction="backward")
but it isn't dropping any if the variables in the model, but there are lots
of not significant variables as you can see here

I am using scale() to standardize a distribution? But why does it

p-value for hazard ratio in Cox proportional hazards regression?
Hi,
I'm new to R and using it for Cox survival analysis. Thanks to this great forum I learned how to compute the HR with its confidence interval.
My question would be: Is there any way to get the p-value for a hazard ratio in addition to the confidence interval?
Thanks,
Thierry
