You do this by adding a section like this to your /etc/apt/preferences: Package: shorewall Pin: release o=Debian,a=testing Pin-Priority: 700 Testing usually has the latest stable version or something fairly close to it, so when shorewall pops up in your ''apt-get dist-upgrade'', then you need to think about upgrading.
