Shorewall users - Aug 2003 - Iptables Debian vs Netfilter | Deb pakage vs shorewall

Hi,

 

I have Debian 3.0 rc1 ( Woody ) with kernel 2.4.21

 

I''d like to install the Shorewall for firewalling

 

What is best to have as Iptables ?

 

The original Debian 1.26a version packeage

or

The latest Netfilter version Iptables 1.28 ?

 

I don''t understand why Debian don''t update the Iptables
package.

 

Another question.

 

Is is better to install the latest Shorewall Debian package 1.4.5 ( latest
is testing version )

 

Or the original Shorewall from www.shorewall.net

Because the Debian team can be slow to update packages. :/

I recommend the Debian iptables package, but build Shorewall from source.  I 
have been doing this for some time and it works great.

I use this apt-source.

deb http://debian.netfarm.it/debian/ woody sherpya

its as binarys for i386 for iptables 1.2.8 and latest shorewall.

check http://www.apt-get.org for more info
