I thought I would take this opportunity to let you know what I''m doing with=20 Shorewall and to start the ball rolling with this mailing list. While I continue to provide minor bug fixes and enhancements, my major effort=20 is going into a GUI for Shorewall. Since I have spent the last 32+ years=20 doing kernel and middleware development, I''ve not built a GUI before. Here''s what I''m thinking at this point: To ease the learning curve and speed development, I''m using Python 2.2 and=20 tkinter. This is not to imply that users will need to have Python on their=20 firewall systems but they will need to have it installed on at least one=20 system along with ssh and scp clients. The firewall system itself must have a=20 sshd running. A copy of the /etc/shorewall directory will be kept on the GUI system; the=20 GUI will be designed so it can manage copies of multiple /etc/shorewall=20 directories from multiple firewalls. When the user has the firewall=20 configuration the way she wants it, she can ask the GUI to move it to the=20 firewall system using scp then ask the GUI to restart shorewall (ssh will be=20 used to issue the restart command and get back the results).
