dumb, dumb question
I''m very new to shorewall. My setup is IP Gateway (CentOS 4 + Shorewall)
with 3 NIC cards.
Shorewall works great on the firewall machine. Bind also works (local
net machines get IPs fine). Under firestarter, all works great.
With shorewall, the loc machines can not route past the firewall. They
can connect to the firewall, but not past it.
Exactly what information should I post to get

multiple external addresses on one interface
I want to add two IP ranges on one NIC card (eth0 and eth0:1). Has
anyone done this before?
The CentOS 4 gui keeps locking up when I try it there and the command
line ifconfig seems to work, but ifup always returns the error that is
never heard (no such device) of eth0:1
thanks

kernel recompile help
Everytime I try to recompile a kernel, "make modules" always dies with
the error:
mv: cannot stat `include/asm-i386/asm_offsets.h.tmp': No such file or
directory
make: *** [include/asm-i386/asm_offsets.h] Error 1
I installed the src RPM and kernel-devel ... any ideas as to what I
could be doing wrong?
Thanks!!

CentOS and Bash History
Hi,
I was wondering if bash or inputrc has changed form CentOS v4 to CentOS v5?
Reason I ask is at the bash cli I can type, for example 'su' and then with
the up and down arrows I can scroll through my history and will only see the
commands that begin with 'su'. In CentOS 5 this isn't the case.
I have added some code to my inputrc file to make this work in CentOS 4 as

Problems with IPTABLES recent module.
I went to reload (iptables-restore) my iptables configuration and
obtained an error at the COMMIT statement. No further details were
provided even when I ran restore with the -v option.
I determined that none of my backed up configuration files going
back to October will load either. This is more than passing strange
because I altered and uploaded the iptables configuration on this
host several

Centos and Bridging
Hello,
Presently I am running CentOS release 5.5 (Final). I am looking to setup
bridging as I would like to setup some KVM virtual hosts on my system as a
test lab. I am following the the instruction at this site

but I cannot figure out where I am going wrong and would be thankful if
someone could point me in the right direction.

PPTP VPN secure?
Hi all
I have succesfully set up PPTP VPN access to my company using PoPToP/pppd
(thank you Tom for excellent documentation), everything works fine so far.
Problem is security. As I understand it, since PPTP ports trough tunnel are
opened to whole Internet (have to be), access verification is now based only
on username/password combination.
Can level of security be raised with MAC verification?

[LLVMdev] [Noob] Docs for SelectionDAGs?
Hi all,
Just getting started with LLVM, and trying to write a back end for a toy hypothetical processor. I'm using llvm-gcc with -emit-llvm to see the LLVM code. The LLVM code is very well-documented at http://llvm.org/docs/LangRef.html. However, I'm looking for equivalent documentation for SelectionDAGs. As I understand it, instructions in the target specification get matched against the

SSH + VNC
I am trying to log into a desktop that is running CentOS 4.2 by
tennelling VNC through SSH..
The desktop auto-logins a user, then sits there waiting for me to login.
On the client side, I fire up SSH tunneling
ssh -L 8000:127.0.0.1:5900
The client spits back the error
vncviewer: ConnectToTcpAddr: connect: Connection refused
Unable to connect to VNC server
The server says

OpenOffice startup help
...index.php?content=oooqs ) to help speed up
the loading of open office 2.0 when using KDE.
Also, I've told KDE to issue the command oofromtemplate -invisible by putting
it in a simple script in .kde/Autostart
For some reason, when oooqs has the settings below (screenshot link -
http://users.zoominternet.net/~ryanag/oofficeqs.png ) everything works
perfectly. Open Office loads from a cold start in about 3.5 seconds.
When I don't use the oooqs, the script does not work - it prevents open office
from loading.
Does anyone have any idea what oooqs is doing that makes my script work?
Since I...

Apache and TCP Wrappers
I'm trying to lock down Apache and SSH by using TCP Wrappers.
I put /etc/hosts.allow to be
httpd: IP#1 IP#2 127.0.0.1
sshd: IP#1 IP#2 127.0.0.1
and hosts.deny
ALL: ALL
This seems to work great for ssh, and not at all for httpd. Does anyone
know why this would be?
thanks

Single BLF for ALL trunks in use
Hi, first time poster. I've searched, but find very little on this topic.
My church has only 2 incoming phone lines (copper), being serviced by
Digum TDM400 card. The existng phone system (being replaced) was a key
system, easy for users to tell both lines were in use. We have chosen
Polycom 430 phones for the new system, and from what I can tell, I'm
only going to have a single

port forwarding using iptables
Hi listmates,
Happy Thanksgiving!
Does anybody know if there is a convenient utility to configure
iptables on a CentOS 5.4 or 5.3 machine to do port forwarding? And if
not, where and how does one put the requisite commands?
Thanks.
Boris.

I am looking for good website with information on the above 2 items listed in

to learn both and build my present machine into a VM with many hosts
installed for testing/learning. Any and all information/links you could

SNAT Logging
Hi All,
I'm running our network with an 10/8 IPv4 subnets, with an SNAT catch all
rule on the iptables firewall to the world.
Is there a pratical way to log each connection? Maybe an "automatic hotspot"
wich will assign an "external" IP to each "internal" one, and log it.
What are you using folks?
Thanks,
Antonio.
