OT: free DNS service?
I have been using a free DNS service for the past seven (7) years.
This morning, at 4 A.M., , I changed the "A" record for one of my web
sites, to point to an IP address on a different server, so I could
test. After watching the TTL count down from 3600 to zero, with the
"dig" command, it then reset to 3600, but still resolved to the
original IP address. :-) I set the

Strange Postfix problem
Hello,
Was trying to setup postfix on my home PC. Running Centos 6.4. I don't
have a static IP and use zoneedit and ddclient to keep my installation
of zoneminder current.
So I decided I wanted to get zoneminder to send me email alerts. Sent
some test messages but none were sent.
I went to webdnstools website thinking maybe there is a dns or network
problem.
When it checks my dns setup, everything is fine...

DNS Server
Hello,
I have recently switched from having a dynamic IP address and using a DNS
service like zoneedit and dyndns to having a static IP address.
How do I stop having to use these DNS services and use my own? I tried
changing the DNS servers at my registrar but it won't accept my server.
TIA

questions about virtual domains and icecast
Hello there list,
I have several virtual domains here such as:
"hotspotandhotjamz.dyndns.org" (where I want the server and client of
icecast too think they are that) "drscott.dyndns.biz" "bear@bresnan.net"
and69.144.146.8. Will these happen to cause loss of audio or rought
streaming when accessed?

[OT] DNSguruz pl help: whois structure, delegation & handling delegation with Tinydns.

2. Classless delegation...I want to setup my own primary DNS Server on
my DSL with secondary slave DNS servers on the net with DNS services
like zoneedit.com etc. Now, I want my ISP to delegate my IP so, I can

my ISP which takes over a month & multiple contacts, letters & faxes).
Please advise what the ISP requires to do and what I require to do & in
what order. My I...

[OT] Godaddy hell...
Can I get some recommendations:
We are looking for a hosting provider (other than godaddy) with
1: SLA
2: SSH access
3: subversion/rsync or the ability to install binaries / compile source.
Would like them to include http/https and email.
Any suggestions?

what is your question ? is it an apache one ?? virtual hosts and icecast
work fine .. and depending on your dynamic IP provider , it should not be
a problem . check http://zoneedit.com for the one that i have used with
good success ..

Request for recommendations for dynamic dns daemon
Greetings,
I'm trying to configure dynamic dns on my test/backup machine (CentOS
5.8). I'm using Zoneedit DNS.
I've been trying to setup ddclient; the error message that I get is:
Jun 26 15:20:09 xxxxxx ddclient[28467]: WARNING: file
/var/cache/ddclient/ddclient.cache, line 3: Invalid Value for keyword 'ip'
= ''
Or should I use ez-ipupdate?
Thank you.

DNS SRV records
My DNS gui(Cpanel/WHM) only allows the following options for entry type:
A6
AAAA
CNAME
MX
NS
PTR
TXT
WRK
Does anyone know if any of these options are acceptable substitutes for an
SRV record, or do I need to put in a ticket to have a SRV record
specifically created for me?

Hosting a Ruby App From Home - Approach?
Hi,
Any advice/comments on the potential for hosting some personal Ruby
applications from home? (i.e. for learning, sharing with friends etc)
Would the basic concept be:
* Need to buy a static IP address from you ISP
* By a domain name and point it to the static IP address
* Run Apache as the front end web server
- Q: What basic lockdown/security steps should one take?
* Perform a PORT
