Ubuntu and ZFS
...ion about the state of ZFS in Ubuntu. There are 2 Linux compatible implementations of ZFS, zfs-fuse (http://gitweb.zfs-fuse.net/) and ZFS on Linux (http://zfsonlinux.org/). ZFS-fuse is in the official Ubuntu repos but is rather outdated and almost all development has stopped. ZFS on Linux (aka ZoL) is an open source but license incompatible kernel module that is under active development and released as source packages for most major distos. There is a ppa for Ubuntu here: https://launchpad.net/~zfs-native/+archive/stable ZoL is actively used in various NAS distros, as well as things like...

gee
I am trying to use gee() to calculate the robust standard errors for a logit model. My dataset (zol) has 195019 observations; winner, racebl, raceas, racehi are all binary variables. ID is saved as a vector of length 195019 with alternating 0's and 1's. I get the following error message. I also tried the same command with corstr set to "independence" and got the same er...

The ZFS-on-Linux (ZoL) code has been stable for years. In recent months, the BSDs have rebased their offerings from Illumos to ZoL. The macOS port, called O3X, is also mostly based on ZoL. That leaves Solaris as the only major OS with a ZFS implementation not based on ZoL. > 1) A single drive failure in a RAI...

Issues accessing ZFS-shares on Linux
I think it may have something to do with my disks being encrypted. This issue happened after updating systemd to version 236, ZoL to 0.7.4 and kernel to 4.14. I have always mounted the pool manually by first opening LUKS-encrypted disks and after that issuing zpool import tank. Is there any way to still use systemd to manage smbd or do I have to just always start it manually? This is how the pool has been set up: root at...

Oracle is notoriously litigious and having a target liked Red Hat would probably have their lawyers whetting their chops. Ironically, btrfs was also an Oracle thing -- in that Ch...

"Create-only" Samba share
Hi. I'm sharing a ZFS (ZoL) directory through Samba. Right now I have it set up so my user has full RWX access to everything, but for security reasons I'd like to only allow myself to copy and read files and create and list directories, but make it so once something is created I can't modify it in any way other t...

large cover size bug with android?
When trying to play vorbis or opus files that have large cover sizes >1MB on android 8.0 built in player, they fail to play. Removing the cover allows them to play.  Has anyone encountered this before or know if it is a known android or opus/vorbis bug?

In that case, iirc ZoL uses POSIX ACls and doesn't support NFS4 ACLs, so you shouldn't need any extra VFS modules for ACLs -- POSIX ACLs work out of the box.
