...ailable binaries. I intend to write up instructions for novices in
my home page. Any help or squawks would be greatly appreciated. I'm using
win2000.
Wget 1.81 was relatively painless to get going (from the command line),
but winamp 2.72 with the ogg plugin would not accept ogg files.
I tried Zinf. It does ogg nicely, however I miss the feature of xmms of
playing a whole directory without assistance,
An annoying feature of Zinf-2.2.0a is over sensitivity. In the mp3 decode
it is much too loud, by a factor of about 5.
Any objection to the above assertions would be appreciated.

client disconnects after one song is played
I'm using the latest CVS source under Linux using a playlist
of ogg files. When I use a client to connect on the same
machine, there is not any disconnect (xmms and zinf). When
using a client on a Windows machine, I get mixed results.
Zinf on windows will play thru the current song but then stops
when the song is finished and does not play the next song
being streamed (see log below). Winamp on windows will not
play at all. On my iMac, I am using AudioOn a...

I'm trying to write comment writer thing for zinf, because I love the
program, but it doesn't fully support ogg. I've found how to read
comments, but can't figure how to write them. There has been some
discussion about this previously in the archives, but I couldn't find
any specifics, only references to code not posted to the li...

Windows ogg stream player?
Is there a good Ogg stream player for Windows? I can't seem to get latest
Winamp or zInf working from an Icecast server.

make -DNOCLEANDEPENDS distclean
every time I execute make -DNOCLEANDEPENDS distclean I get this error...
is it a freebsd bug, or is it something that just happened on my system?
I've tried deleting parts of ports and updating the structure with cvs but
the error always happens.

equalizer api
Somebody reported a bug against zinf that the equalizer did
not work with oggvorbis streams. Upon looking,
I noticed that while the mp3 decoder (xing) has an equalizer
interface to modify the decoding,
I could not find an equivalent for ogg.
Does the beast exist? Should it?

Player Problems
Hi Everyone,
Has anyone come across problems listening back to Mp3
streams using VLC?
The reason I ask is that we [ResonanceFM] stream at
128K and at 24K (using two different Icecast
instances). All players (Zinf, Winamp, Media Player
etc) can play both streams bar VLC which seems to
exhibt a skipping (i.e like the sound of a CD) problem
when playing the 24K stream. Incidently it plays the
128 fine.
The two streams are:
http://relay.exequo.org/resonanceFM (24K)

stupid user tricks with ices2: "No such file or directory" :P
...5:37:51] WARN playlist-builtin/playlist_read Error opening
file "Vistors.ogg": No such file or directory
...
And I've made playlist.txt as simple as I can:
playlist.txt:
/home/john/Visitors.ogg
Yes, there is a file called Visitors.ogg in /home/john. I can play the file
just fine in Zinf.
Does ices2 expect .ogg files to be in another specific directory? From
reading the docs, the path to the .ogg files are specified in the playlist
file.
Any ideas? Suggestions?
Thanks for your help.

Win32 player needed to put speex into widespread use
I am eager to begin using speex for downloadable audio on my church's
website - but first a good win32 player is needed given that windows has
a 94% domination...
Are there any plans for an up-to-date speex player for windows? (that
winamp plugin is hopelessly old) Building this into zinf (fmr. freeamp)
might be an option, but their code is one big mess.

I'm using v3.0d. For example when I try to play the following URL:
http://ogg.smgradio.com/lq96.ogg
I just get prebuffering over and over. Does that work for you?

...a Windows 2000 server. I'm using Winamp
with the SAM encoder plugin to stream an Ogg Vorbis stream (-0.55
quality stereo) from a remote machine. I'm having two problems.
1. The latest Winamp works great. Whamb on OSX works also (but no
Title/Artist info shows up). But on other players (Zinf and Audion
[OS9 and OSX]) it works great for one song. At song change, the
player stops and I have to reopen the url again. Do I have to add
some kind of fallback for in between songs for these other players??
2. Icecast keeps shutting down after about an hour. If there are no

Looks good on server, no audio on client.
I'm trying to set up a live stream originating from line-in on my
soundcard.
I'm attempting to use Icecast2 and Ices2. I've been up and down the
configuration. I switched from the line-in method to using .ogg files
as source. These .ogg files play find independent of Ices2/Icecast2.
Ices2 and Icecast2 are running on the same Redhat 9 machine.
In both cases, Winamp appears to

Perhaps every 2 to 3 seconds. Also, I notice that the buffer keeps
decreasing as it plays. I've tried with multiple sound cards just in
case it was a sound card clock inconsistency, but it does the same thing
in both cases.
zinf: This worked well for longer using the cmdline.ui. But
inevitably, every time I've tried it, after a few days it just quits
without explanation. That's not really good either. I need something
that will always work. I haven't tried zinf with mp3 yet, but I don't
know why it...

WinAmp3 & Icecast2 compatibility?
...hen I give it the URL (http://myserver:8000/mount.ogg) it says
"connecting" then "prebuffering done" and finally it'll display the
mountpoint filename plus the correct bitrate info -- but no audio! WinAmp3
plays the same ogg files fine from a local hard drive.
Also, I tried Zinf for Windows, it can play the stream correctly -- but
stops after each song, leaving lines like "DBUG source/source_main Client
had recoverable error 11" accompanied by a "DBUG source/source_main Client
had recoverable error 11" in the icecast error log.

...s I know this is just for
sources. I am more interested in requirements clients have to meet, what
header response options are available, and which have to be implemented in
both server and clients (not sources).
Main reason why I am asking is that I'd like to know whether clients like
mpg123, zinf or winamp can be expected to be capable of handling
HTTP-Location responses.
One more detail about Icecast2 that I'd like to know is whether there is any
load-balancing feature implemented or about to be implement? Since there is
this Master-Slave-Feature, is the Master capable of moving the c...

Size of Windows ogg.dll and vorbis.dll
...Windows platform, I would like to compile a version of the codec files ogg.dll, vorbis.dll, and vorbisfile.dll that are small. I notice that the provided Windows projects are very large...the release Vorbis.dll is > 1 mb. To me, that is huge.
I am only using decoding features.
I looked in the Zinf project, and they seem to have a version with the encoding functions removed...where is the source for this? Do I have to create a separate project that takes these out.
I don't get why it isn't included, or where it can be found or what was done.
(As well, is there a decent sample of hoo...

Package resource changes
What with the impending release and a now fixed bug nagging me,
I''m testing puppet [2556] from subversion.
There have been changes in packages, I used to have
Package {
provider => "aptitude",
}
in my default.pp, but that doesn''t work anymore, and changing package to
type or removing the declaration doesn''t help.
How do package providers work now?
