help with executing instruction every i-th run of loop
I am running a very long loop and would like to save intermediate results in case of a system or program crash. Here is the skeleton of what my code would be: for (i in 1:zillion) { results[[i]]<-do.something.function() if (logical.test(i)) {save(results, "results.tmp")} } logical.test would test to see if i/1000 has no remainder. What R function would test that?

Samba for AD client?
Hey, all. I'm planning on migrating a W2K3 server to a Linux solution. It needs to be AD-aware, support ACLs, etc. This isn't something I'm doing Right Now(tm), so I can wait a little bit. A couple questions: 1) Are there any known issues with BTRFS? 2) Which version of Samba would be most appropriate for this? 3) AD integration: I've never really done it (with success); any

Changing R opening message
Hi, I am using some python code to execute small R code snippets. I would like to save the messages output to the screen when R is executed. However, I will just save the opening message a zillion times since many thousands of little snippets will be executed. Does anyone how to omit the opening message printed by R when it first opens? In case, you don't know what opening

DPLAY Internet issue with Wine
I'm trying to play Zillions of Games <http://www.zillionsofgames.com/> under Wine 20020122 on a Debian 2.2 (potato) setup. When I attempt Internet play, the game does not list any service providers, and I get the following messages: fixme:ole:CoCreateInstance no classfactory created for CLSID {5959df60-2911-11d1-b049-...

Samba 2.2.x and Trust Relationships?

No subject
Hi, I am currently trying to switch from Splus to R and I would like to know whether there is a way of transfering Splus objects stored on disk into the R environment. In Splus I would do this using the function get, e.g., foo <- get(foo, where="dirname") where dirname is the name of a directory containing the Splus objects. In R, argument 'where' of function get appears to

[LLVMdev] Minimum Python Version
...upport for older Pythons is a noble goal and may continue to support people clinging to ancient Python releases, this will only make the path forward more difficult, as it puts an additional burden on those maintaining Python in the tree. That is all well and good, but please be reminded there are zillions of Red Hat (or CentOS) users out there, stuck with either Python 2.5 or 2.6, who cannot easily upgrade without busting their whole system...

Proposal - Add xe manpages to xen-org
Xen Community, I have a team of people frantically creating manpages for the xe command and all of it''s 361 subcommands. The initial source documentation is in asciidoc but also saved as Docbook. From docbook we transform to epub, html, manpage and pdf. This is currently being hosted in a subversion server at a Seattle area college and we''d like to move it to the xen-org

Recommendation On Ping And Alert Tool
A bit off topic, but I keep looking for an answer to this question and coming up with nothing... so I thought I would go to the gurus. :-) Can anyone recommend a good package for pinging other devices and sending an email/alert when they go down? I'm aware of all kinds of more complex things with GUIs and a zillion other bells and whistles we aren't looking for, but we just want a simple

Liveice & RedHat 7.1
Help!! I compiled liveice on a more-or-less stock RH 7.1 (2.4.2-2) server install. It starts, appears to connect (to a Shoutcast server), lame runs using an appropriate CPU %, lists OK on yp.shoutcast.com - but clients can't connect properly (ICY 200 OK then stalls) - & the liveice console "vu display" is blank. With VERBOSE 10 I get: l3_side->main_data_begin: 1064 Resvoir

x labels out of Quartz canvas
Hi R world, I am such a newbie, with only 4-5 days of R experience. I did a search in forum history but couldn't find a solution to my problem... Sorry if it's obvious: I managed to draw a barplot (yey!) with xlabels of 'long' names (filenames, to be particular). To make them readable, I place them perpendicular to the axis (las=2). When I do that, however, these names don't

Not an OpenSSH Feature Request
I am not going to put my 2 cents in about added features. I just appreciate the reams of technical support the OpenBSD developers offers us for the code they give us for free. $400 for an F-Secure license? I have my OpenSSH T-shirt! My request will add zero bytes to the OpenSSH code base, not even in the contribs directory. Could the subject lines on the mailing list begin with something like

VoIP with Asterix
Hi Guys, I know no doubt this has been covered on the list a zillion time before, but can anyone point me to some good resources on using Asterix as a VoIP gateway? I would like to get two TDM400P cards in two machines attached to separate adsl connections (in two different physical locations). I'd then like to be able to plug POTS telephones into each of them (I understand I will need FXS

inotify trouble
Hello there This morning our main Samba server was pretty unresponsive running at a 30+ load average. After digging a bit what I found in the logs was the following. No data on inotify fd?! [2008/01/21 07:02:59, 0] smbd/notify_inotify.c:inotify_handler(234) That entry appears a billion zillion times in the log file until the file system is filled up leaving no space on the device and sending

Using view helpers from a controller
Hi, I want to access a view helper from a controller. (Of course, you all want to know why??? -- See below.) To be specific, I want to access methods such as ActionView::Helpers::FormTagHelper -- form_tag and text_field_tag from either a controller or from a new class (in models? or lib?). If I create the new class then that class''s methods need to also be able to access the
