Scaling to 10 Million IMAP sessions on a single server

Would it be possible to scale Dovecot IMAP server

Plotting 15 million points
Hi All I have a vector of about 15 million numbers which I would like to plot. The goal is the see the distribution. I tired the usual steps. 1. Histogram : never gets complete my window freezes w/out log base 10 2. Density : I first calculated the kernel density and then plotted it which worked. It would be nice to superimpose histogram with density but as of now I am not able to get this

How to size an email server to handle 5 million emails per day
I have no idea as to how to size an email server. I was approached by a customer that wanted a single server with RAID 1 disks to handle about 5 million emails a day. In general terms, what parameters should I take into account to size the hardware specs when the average email is about 10kb, the smalles email is 2kb and the largest email is about 5meg (with attachment) thanks, --

Printing data frame with million rows
Dear all, I was working on number of files and at the end I got a data frame with approx. million rows.To prin this data frame in output, I used capture.output(print.data.frame(end,row.names=F), file = "summary", append = FALSE) where end is the name of my data frame and summary is the name of my output file. but when I checked the output there were only 10000 rows and at the last it

Million linux virtual machines
If someone posted already, forgive me I get the digest. http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/43480/108/ Scientists get a million Linux kernels to run at once Scientists at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, have run more than a million Linux kernels as virtual machines. (how long before shared hosts use this....lol) The technique will allow them to effectively observe behaviour found

Large astDB - millions of tuples - issues?
Hi all, Does anyone uses astDB for a large amount of data, in special for implementing black lists with millions of numbers (i'd like about 2 or 3 million)? That would be held in memory right? Is this (memory consumption) the only problem I could face? Att. Gabriel -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Xapian Index 253 million documents = 704G
Xapian Index 253 million documents = 704G I just build my largest single Xapian index with 253 million unique documents on single server using single hard disk, less that 8G RAM and single processor 2.0 GHz. I do not see any search performance decreases in searching my indexes between 100 million and 250 million, which indicates a good scalability of Xapian and it looks like, I can push it easily

sync 54 million files, tuning rsync?
I'm trying to sync up 54 million files. I can break it down into different applications, but I still have to accomplish 17 million files in one "chunk" if possible. I'm using a fast (v440) cpu system with 32G ram. Originally I was running out of memory (seemed to increase like crazy with --delete on). I've upgraded to rsync 2.6.6 and the memory seems to be more stable

how long before deleting sessions ?
What is the recommended amount of time to keep sessions around in the database (i store them in a sessions table). IF you get 1 million requests per day you are going to get 1 million new session entries in the DB. This would need some serious cleaning so just wondering what a safe cleanup time would be. Also does anyone know how to prevent new sessions records from being created if session

inquiry about limitation of file system
Thank you for your hint. I really mean I am planning to store millions of files on the file system. Then may I ask that what is the maximum number of files which could be stored in one directory without affecting the performance of web server? Scaling to 10 Million IMAP sessions on a single server
...infrequent bursts of activity, a better approach would be to manage the session data in memory or in an external datastore and only process using the session data when there is activity. Much like Web Sockets and even HTTPS requests are handled today for installations that need to scale to support millions of active users. As for Dovecot, I would think the work done to ?migrate? idling IMAP sessions would be a good start to implementing managing a large number of sessions with a fixed pool of worker processes like other web servers do. So, my question really is: Is there anything about the IMAP pr...

Half Million features Selection (Random Forest)
Hi, I have about half million binary features, and would like to find a model to estimate the continous response. According to the inference, I can express predictors and response by linear model. (ie. Design matrix: large sparse matrix with 0/1. Response: Continous number) Since it is not a classification problem, someone suggested me to try random forest in R. However, in the randomForest help
