Compiling Kernel Modules
Hi,
Here'a a question - is it possible to compile a single module (distributed
in the kernel source tree) for the current CentOS kernel (2.6.9-5.0.5)
without recompiling the entire kernel and all other modules.
I basically need reiserfs3 (nb. why is it disabled? it's a module, you
use it, it doesn't wreck anything...) and I don't really want to change
the rest of the kernel, and

Jigdoes of CentOS 4.4 and 5.0 i386/x86_64 CD/DVD available.
...39;s manpage)
This should also allow more customized images (like the rolled up updates)
without increasing mirror space usage.
Jigdo (combined with hardlinking identical files, which I believe is
already done) should enable drastic reductions in centos HDD footprint.
Comments?

okay, first of all you shouldn't do it in a script,
instead you should be modifying /etc/sysconfig/iptables
and using /etc/init.d/iptables start/stop

rc script not running on shutdown
I've create a script and associated links(via chkconfig). The script
runs in the expected runlevels at boot time, but does not run at
all during shutdown(halt, reboot, etc). I swear I've done this
a million times. What am I overlooking?

Centos-announce censoring :-)
Hi!
I have a quick question about the centos-announce mailing list,
is there some guide as to what the subject lines of all the mails there
are (ie. for regexps)?
I want to filter everything that isn't related to CentOS 4 i386 out to
/dev/null...
Cheers and thanks,
MaZe.

Could we please keep the centos-announce messages in the correct format?
Not centos low 3 but low centos 3?

sys/types.h -> linux/types.h and __aligned_u64
When building klibc 1.5.25 against linux/master (ie. post 3.1) I'm seeing:
klibc/generated/include/linux/if_packet.h:176: error: expected
specifier-qualifier-list before '__aligned_u64'
which seems to come from upstream commits:

[PATCH] [FEATURE] Ogg123 range playback
...nd value being a length
instead of an offset.
Till now have had nothing to do with (the source code of) ogg (just badly
needed this feature when recording music fragments from tape which I
'ripped' and ogg'ed).
Not on the list so CC me if you please...
Tell me what you think,

Query: Centos 4.2 availability
Hi,
Not meaning to rush you folks (you're doing a great job).
But I'm about to install/clone 4 computers with Centos 4.
When can I expect 4.2 to be out (in DVD format preferably)?
As in, is it worth waiting and saving myself the later hassle
extra downloads?
[I don't actually have 4.1 DVD's, just 4.0, so I pretty much have to
download the DVD.ISO anyway]

[PATCH] klibc: reproducible builds
From: Maciej ?enczykowski <maze at google.com>
This adds a new setting: KBUILD_REPRODUCIBLE
If it is non-empty, ar and ranlib will be called in such
a way that timestamps do not affect the build output.
This allows one to get perfectly reproducible builds.

x86 uniprocessor 4GB memory (fwd)
If you have an AGP video card which you aren't actually using you can try
selecting the minimum possible AGP apperture (window whatever) size (possibly
even disable it?). This might help. Also removing the AGP card and using a
junk 1-8MB svga card will also possibly work. In my experience the linear
framebuffer of video cards is by far the greatest memory hog these days.

alias keeps changing (fwd)
I'd suggest looking around the ifcfg-eth* files (somewhere in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts I think) nad commenting out HWADDR= lines, if
that works, then try reversing the HWADDR lines - this will reverse the numbers
of the ethernet cards (ie making eth0 eth1 and eth1 eth0) but should result in
a stable configuration till next hardware change.
And you problem? IMHO, when the system
