Yum errors
Hi,
I have a machine that recently had some file system corruption. fsck was able
repair the file system but I am getting the following error when I try to
do yum update:
[Errno 21] Is a directory: '/var/lib/yum/yumdb/e/2f883c08e3b596b66fcc19c6b4d73b11c9aaa43e-e2fsprogs-1.41.12-14.el6_4.2-x86_64/checksum_type'
In searching Google, some suggested renaming the yumdb but that just results
in a traceback when I run yum.
There are some files in lost+found but I am not sure what the above file
should look like a...

do not uninstall old when yum install new
Hi,
I have a specific needs that requires yum do not to uninstall old
version when install new one. For example, I found that
yum install kernel
will install new kernel, and old kernel will remained. But
yum install <something-else>
will uninstall old version after install new one, how to disable it?
Thanks.

CentOS 7, rsync problem
Oddity: rsync *should* be recursing, and dealing with very large number of
files. It works, going from box a to box b. But when I try to back b up to
c, it fails, 100%, complaining of "out of hashtable space [sender]". I've
tried adding -r, and changing --delete to --delete-delay, and no joy.
All boxes are current, or fairly current, CentOS 7.
Anyone got any thoughts on the matter?

CentOS 7, rsync problem
...boxes are current, or fairly current, CentOS 7.
The only thing I know of that's likely to cause rsync to run out of memory
is when there are a huge number of hard links and you are using the "-H"
option to preserve them. (If you think you don't have many, look under
/var/lib/yum/yumdb and /usr/share/zoneinfo.)
And FYI, rsync doesn't do a very good job of preserving hard links when
going to a destination that already has some of the files. It doesn't
break any existing hard links at the destination, so you can end up with
a hard link topology that is somewhat different f...

Such an I/O error indicates either a phyisical problem (storage broken)
or filesystem full or read-only.
Do other opertions besides a "yum update" work properly? Specificly do

do not uninstall old when yum install new
...in installonlypkgs to keep
installed at the same time. Setting to 0 disables this feature. Default is
'3'. Note that this functionality used to be in the "installonlyn" plugin,
where this option was altered via tokeep. Note that as of version 3.2.24,
yum will now look in the yumdb for a installonly attribute on installed
packages. If that attribute is "keep", then they will never be removed.

how to determine what's installed from a repository?
Hello all--
I am trying to determine what I have isntalled from a given repository.
I have seen several references to "yum repo-pkgs" which I think is what
would work for me, but "repo-pkgs" does not seem to be a part of
yum 3.2.29. Is this a yum add on that I could get somewhere?

[OT] Using rsync to backup / restore - when to use (or not use) the -H option switch?
Hello.
After some reading, including the rsync man page, I am still not clear on
this:
When using rsync to backup and restore, when should and when should one
*not*
include hard links (by using the -H option switch)?
A simple example case would be backups for one or just a few light-duty
local workstations. Is there a simple, clear rule about that, or is it too
complicated for that?

Uninstall old wine version and install new version
I did a forum search and found 16 pages for uninstalling wine. Only one was semi-helpful.
What I got was:

What do I need to do?
I want to uninstall wine 1.1.24 and install 1.1.26. I currently only have three apps installed. So any thing I will loose will be easy
