Loop with string variable AND customizable "summary" output
...sing R for my research and I have two questions about it:
1) is it possible to create a loop using a string, instead of a numeric vector? I have in mind a specific problem:
Suppose you have 2 countries: UK, and USA, one dependent (y) and one independent variable (y) for each country (vale a dire: yUK, xUK, yUSA, xUSA) and you want to run automatically the following regressions:
for (i in c("UK","USA"))
output{i}<-summary(lm(y{i} ~ x{i}))
In other words, at the end I would like to have two objects as output: "outputUK" and "outputUSA", which co...

outlook 2007 mailbox sort order
...lay
order I like, so at least after the fact it can be "corrected".
I want to provide shared, virtual and lazy_expunge mailboxes. I'd like
these to be last in the list of mailboxes. This doesn't seem possible
with Outlook unless I prefix the names with 'zz' or similar. yuk.

question
according to the openssh mailing list page, this is the spot to
report/discuss bugs and i have a potential one. on the other hand, it is
probably something i am not doing correctly.
the system is red hat linux 6.2 (yuk) running the openssh rpm i grabbed off
of the portable openssh site listing, with sshd version OpenSSH_2.9p2
i have it installed via rpm and when i go to launch sshd it gives me this
error:

Serious Geek RoR newbie: wishes to know EXACTLY what/where all is installed by packages. Tnx!
...stalled files went?]
Hi all....great to be here... i''m pretty relentless yet very new to
RoR and fairly new to Linux [went with ubuntu 7.10 for the time being
- learing pure Deb and/or Slack/BDS for the future]
anyhooo.. So...
Coming from my highly understood XP install [frankly it feels yuk
these days] i''m wishing to know the Linux way of finding out
EVERYTHING that a package installs and WHERE it installs.
I''m having a great time with nix and simply can''t find the utility
that''s best for telling me where ALL is as far as directories and even

Yuk. That's so.... G.729 and ITU codecs :-) As much as you'd like
something like that, it would be a pain to maintain it. If you want
everything in one chunk, just go with the solution above.

P.S.: Optional question: Is there a plugin that handles forms like Agavi
( www.agavi.org )? Aside from it being a PHP Framework (yuk!), I do
really like the form processing by filtering the output instead of doing
it explicitly with builders. Customizing forms in rails still seems to
be a bit of work to me :/.

Using speex!
Just a quick note to let you guys know I've started encoding my church's
sermons to Speex format as well as MP3.
The audio is recorded off cassette (yuk) onto my PC as a 16kHz 24-bit
sample rate stereo WAV in Audacity (the PA system is mono, but sometimes
one channel of the tape performs better than the other...). I then trim
off the non-sermon bits of the service, normalize/compress as required,
pick a channel and export as WAV. I then use:

Quescom AS/400 GSM Gateway + Asterisk
Hi List,
I'm wondering if anybody on the list managed to get one of these beasts
working with asterisk?
FYI They're Windows NT embedded (yuk!) based H.323 / SIP compliant
devices with a *very* complicated admin interface. Can't figure out how
to get it working... yet :)
Cheers,
Jean-Michel.

[PATCH] appliance: Ignore unreadable dbus helper programs.
This avoids an error where the appliance cannot start up because this
dbus helper script (which is never used) is unreadable by non-root.
Why do we have unreadable binaries in Fedora at all? You may wonder:

Maintaining a blacklist like this is generally a bad thing. We should

Strange "No permission to access resource" msgs from win95
...er is always _visible_ (ie. the
Icon) in the net. hood. I'm using a global "security = user" and I've
tried various different domain/wins/os-level settings in smb.conf. There
are no pertinent messages in the logs at debug level 2. The win95 machines
have "Banyan Vines" (YUK!) domain logons. I don't have any allow/deny
settings.
Any Ideas anyone? Thanks in advance.

NT4 performance in Netware primary login.
...Samba performance from NT 4 machines is VERY slow.
Many orders of magnitude slower than W95 which is
very good.
This performance problem is consistant. Even
copying files from the samba drives to a local
disk chokes. There does not appear to be a problem
with the browsing, but I/O performance, yuk.
I am running NT4 on Pentium 300s, so there should not
be a shortage of mumbo on the client side.

More on tapply and factors
Here is an even more awkward property of tapply with factors. What we
want to do is to determine the modal value of the first factor given
the level of the second factor. We do that by applying table in a
tapply call then finding the maximum count then ...
Turns out that table gives unexpected results in tapply.
