Diverging results with SPSS
Dear List, I apologize in advance if this is silly. I tried to replicate an analysis I did previously in SPSS using R, and was surprised to find different results. So my question is: shouldn't the following SPSS syntax REGRESSION DEPENDENT INC89 /METHOD=ENTER hiedyrs experien SE93rec. Yeld the same results of the following R command modelB<-lm(INC89~HIEDYRS+EXPERIEN+SE93REC) I

samba (vs. nfs) in all unix environment
Hi, I'm sorry if this is a very FAQ, I've been googling around and searchin' the list archive and I'll gladly accept RTFMs with somehow precise URLs (including URLs to the list archives). I'm on the drawing board (no equipment yet) for a server farm that will have a SteelEye linux cluster behind to provide (among other services) with networked file access. The setup is

calculating burst for TBF
I''m using tc from iproute-2.6.15 with a 2.6.12 kernel. I was testing the effects of the burst parameter in a tbf qdisc. Basically, I was testing this statement from the tc-tbf(8) manpage: "If your buffer is too small, packets may be dropped because more tokens arrive per timer tick than fit in your bucket. The minimum buffer size can be calculated by dividing the rate by HZ."

NT_STATUS_INVALID_SID
I'm not sure I understood the question. Uncommenting the lines or commenting them yelds the same results, as long as "idmap_ldb:use rfc2307 = yes" is kept in place. Commenting it as well changes the ids to the 3 million range. Cleaning the caches did not affect the results. file retrieval problems
Hi puppetiers, recently I switched to using Mongrel webserver in effort to get rid of those annoying "end of file reached" errors and increase performance. It did the trick beautifully, but now a lot of my reports are plagued by another error message: --- err: Could not call fileserver.describe: #<Errno::EPERM: Operation not permitted - connect(2)>

xen 3.1 - domU hangs just after "xm create"
What are methods to debug domU when it hangs? Using xen 3.1 compiled from sources I could not manage to launch no domU. samba & unix group permissions problems
Hi, I'm having permissions problems connecting to a share when the gid of the directory shared is not the primary group of the user connecting to it. Maybe I faced it the wrong way, but I did read (and at least thought I understood) the 'File, directory and share access controls' section of the howto [0]. My users have either one or another 'primary group' (the one set in

EMERGENCY: User profile for Win98 domain logon lost after upgrade to Oct 5 CVS code
Hello all, I'm in very big big trouble here. In an attempt to enable domain logon for NT workstations as well, I fetched the CVS code on Oct 5, 98. I successful built it with no error. I copied the smb.conf from a workable Sambav1.9.18p8 to the Samba2.0alpha. Then I started the smbd and nmbd of Samba2.0alpha. I rebooted one of the Windows 98 (which used to be working happily with

An old ld-linux.so hole
Section I. Overview Hello, About a half year ago there was some rumour on bugtraq concerning a buffer overflow in Linux dynamic linkers, ld.so and ld-linux.so. You can take a look at the beginning of the thread at http://www.geek-girl.com/bugtraq/1997_3/0089.html to refresh old memories; I''ll capitalize anyway. Briefly, there exists a buffer overrun in ld-linux.so versions 1.7.14,

CPU consumption by samba
Hi, I'm having strange performance problems with samba and an application written with VisualFox Pro. This application is entirely installed in a Windows share and it has a hystory of strange phenomenons. Initially it ran fast on an old NT server (but that server has been replaced). It has strange performance problems with Windows 2000 Server: it runs fast with some servers and slow with
