Xdefaults file.
I am trying to get my xterm window under gnome to open with large fonts, with light green foreground and dark green background. I have the following .Xdefaults file contents: $ cat .Xdefaults ! This is a comment ;-) #ifdef COLOR *customization: -color #endif !! Let's cast a wide net, for any app supporting these ! Bl...

Set font and size in xterm
I have a situation where gnome console does not handle vt102 escape sequences properly and therefor need to employ xterm instead. When I run xterm from a gnome terminal window I am presented with an extremely small terminal window employing an almost unreadably small font. I have attempted to set the font size using xrdb and a custom .Xresources file. I can change the colour scheme. I can create a scrollbar. I c...

x25 line xterm
Noted that xterm by default uses 24 lines per window. I have reviewed /etc/termcap looking for a specific entry for xterm that I can edit to change the ln#24 to ln#25 for our application. When I used RedHat there was an editable option to change the number of displayable lines as is done in putty. Any sug...

xterm
Hi list I?m in the process of switching from a RedHat EL 4 to CentOS 5, and run into some problems I?m trying to open a X session to my Centos box, and got an error message stating that /usr/X11R6/bin/xterm is not found. Surprisingly, /usr/X11R6/bin is almost empty, as compared to my RedHat box., and I am 100% sure I have selected X during the installation Linking /bin/xterm to /usr/X11/bin/xterm allows me to start a session Question: is this the right thing to do on CentOS, or is this just a w...

xterm clones on VNC problem
...centos.org/HowTos/VNC-Server as usual. It worked initially. However since this server is going to be installed in a rather inconvenient place and having done pretty stupid things before, I decided for the first time to try the portion that says # Add the following line to ensure you always have an xterm available. ( while true ; do xterm ; done ) & So that I don't inevitably do something like kill kde and find myself unable to do anything. The problem now is, for some reason, I get 4 xterm window after restarting (or stop/start) vncserver. The symptoms now are 1. Consistently, of the fo...

XTerm & OpenSSH question w/ freezing.
Sometimes when I use openssh (latest) and do find . or ls -lR /dev or similiar, my xterm 'freezes up', there is no way to fix it but to kill the xterm usually. This NEVER occurs in telnet. The error is completely reproducable when you come across it. ie: one may just be browsing the filesystem and when you come across this problem, you can launch another xterm and the EXACT sa...

ssh launched from xterm still running after xterm killed on Cygwin
When I launch ssh sessions from xterms and exit them via the command line, the processes go away, but if I just kill the xterm window an ssh was launched from via a mouse click, the ssh.exe hangs around taking up system resources until I kill it via the task manager, if I can figure out which ssh.exes are the zombies. The same problem...

R and xterm
Howdy! I have a problem that's similar to one discussed earlier on the list: When not in xterm all the backspace and cursor-movements and stuff are working well. Only when I start R in an xterm window backspace appears as ^H and so on. What can I do? Copying from graphics window in OS X
I'm running R from an Xterm window is OSX-Tiger. Graphical windows appear as they should, but I'm having trouble copying from them--using cmd+c or the Copy option in the Edit menu won't place the graph in the clipboard (when I paste into a running OS X app, I get whatever was the last copied thing from a non-x11...

How to strip out the title bar from xterm windows on CentOS 5 GNOME?
Hi. Running CentOS 5 with the default GNOME desktop. Is it possible to configure xterm windows not to have title bars to get the most out of the available screenspace? I've tried to look this up but mostly find reference how to change the content of the title bar; I want to remove it completely. Found a reference to Compiz but the version available through CentOS seems old (0.0...

screen + mutt terminal issues.
...Re: [CentOS] Anyone using sendmail? Tue, Dec 04, 2007 ( 4.6K) The accent in Mario's name (post 10723 in my mailbox) seems to cause havok with the terminal emulation in mutt. I've experimented with the different terminal emulations (xterm, ansi, screen, linux, xterm-color etc) and found that: ansi = garbled screen. xterm = displays layout correctly, however highlight bars (in the index screen within mutt) only drawns a background colour when text is also drawn. xterm-color = displayis an issue is shown when using...

missing SIGWINCH?
I have an R library which uses identify() and system(com="xterm -e less /a/corresponding/file") to view files when I click on an x11() plot. I can successfully resize the xterm on Linux (i486) and Macos 10.4 (G4 and G5), but NOT Macos 10.4 (Intel). For example, on a new mac pro: # in a terminal, xterm, iterm, etc: xterm -e "printenv | less&quo...

Hanging ssh session...
Hi All, I am not sure if this is the same thing as the hang on exit bug, so sorry if this is a duplication of previous stuff. Essetntially I am experiencing ssh hangs with about .5% - 1% of my connections. I am running 2.9p2, on Solaris 7. I actually have empirical data on the hangings, as I wrote a script to create these connections in an endless loop, setting an alarm so I could recover

Modify $TERM from config
The terminal programs (xterm, gnome-terminal, etc.) in Fedora have all supported 256 colors for quite a while, so there's a proposal for Fedora to switch them to using "xterm-256color" for $TERM. One drawback would be when you SSH to another host that doesn't have an up-to-date terminal database and doesn...
