Is There an Alternative to MEMDISK ?
...I'd like to use a certain RAM diagnostic (Doc Mem) which I've already posted a note about a couple of months ago. Simply won't work booting the floppy disk image via MEMDISK. In the interim, I've tried to resolve this by changing things on my side. I'm pretty sure it's a XMS incompatibility, as it fails differently depending on which of three diff HIMEM drivers I use. I've even switched from using a Win98 boot floppy image to FreeDOS, but no joy. Whatever the prob is, it's weird bec launching this disk image as the CD bootstrap works flawlessly and has done s...

Dell problems with PXELINUX 3.62
Good day again Daniel, So the first thing I did was to remove the >NUL for your XMSDSK line and put a PAUSE after it in AUTOEXEC.BAT. That way, I could see the error message: *** XMS RAMdisk v1.9I (FU - 08/98): XMS get free mem error. Then I noticed that if you run AUTOEXEC.BAT manually from the DOS CLI, XMSDSK actually succeeds! So that led to a new test: Duplicate the XMSDSK...

Jitter buffer
...uffer to know about what is being >decoded. > > I think the only difficult part here that you do is dealing with multiple frames per packet, without that information being available to the jitter buffer. If the jitter buffer can be told when a packet is added that the packet contains Xms of audio, then the jitter buffer won't have a problem handling this. This is something I've encountered in trying to make a particular asterisk application handle properly IAX2 frames which contain either 20ms of 40ms of speex data. For a CBR case, where the bitrate is known, this is...

Reading newlines with read.table?
I have a text file that is UTF-16LE encoded with CRLF line endings and '@' as field separators that I want to read in R on a Linux system. Which would be fine as read.table("foo.txt", file.encoding = "UTF-16LE", sep = "@", ...) *except* that the data may contain the LF character which R treats as end-of-line and then barfs that there are too few elements

Question Regarding MEMDISK from HP
Dear Mr. H. Peter Anvin, I am trying to figure out the physical address of where the PXE DOS image (downloaded in PXE) is stored by MEMDISK in the Extended Memeory. Is it at E98000h as specified in the PXE spec or the address to is random. What I am trying to figure out is a safe range of extended memory segment (100000h to E98000h), where HP tools can safely allocate extended memory in DOS

Why WinME/XP boot disk doesn't work with MEMDISK
...XE to try with. This sucks, because there are pretty much no good alternatives. In real mode I can enter protected mode myself -- modulo A20 screwiness -- and take care of things, but if the machine is already in protected mode (e.g. if EMM386.EXE is loaded) then it may not work that way. The XMS access functions don't seem to be applicable, either. The whole point of using the INT 15h, AH=87h interface is to let things like EMM386.EXE be able to do the "right thing" when entering protected mode directly isn't an option. Microsoft. What an astonishing bunch of jackas...

Onset HOBOware under Wine (Issue with a Windows/Java hybrid)
...terfaces with a USB based datalogger, to work under Wine. I have installed it, and it fails with the message: Code: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap This seems to be fairly common among Java apps, and the solution appears to be setting -Xms & -Xmx parameters when calling Java. However, this app seems to be a blend of Windows (lots of DLLs) and Java, and it looks like the call to instantiate the java portion is hard-coded. I've snooped through the ini file and some other text based files, and not found anything obvious that w...

Minecraft in Wine
...dows version of Minecraft in Wine (don't ask why...), and wanted to know if there was a way to configure the java virtual machine which is run in wine so as to run Minecraft in a ramdisk machine. I know if I was running a linux native version, I could use the command Code: java -Xmx[Memory] -Xms[Memory] -jar [/path/to/minecraft] What I would like to be able to do is configure my java VM in wine similarly... any tips?

And finally we''ve fixed the issue whereby the options `report_ttl`, `node_t...

Jitter buffer

If the jitter buffer can be told when a packet > is added that the packet contains Xms of audio, then the jitter buffer > won't have a problem handling this. That's always a solution, but I'm not sure it's the best. In my current implementation, the application doesn't even have to care about the fact that there may (or may not) be more than one frame per pack...

CENTOS 4.7 or 5.2 32 bits O.S. for ORACLE DB server??
we plan to setup our ORACLE database server (32 bits DB) and use dell r900 server. This server can put up to 128GB RAM. We are thinking use 32 bits CENTOS 4.7 or 5.2. My concern about CENTOS 5.2 is it only support up to 16 GB RAM on 32 bits O.S. Any suggestion? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________
