[PATCH] GuestOS: Update XF86Config or xorg.conf as appropriate
RHEL 3 has XF86Config instead of xorg.conf. The configs are sufficiently similar
to be matched by the same augeas lens, so switch based on whichever is present.

X Server and LCD
HELO,
My old CRT is a bit broken so I decided to buy new screen. I d like to get
an LCD monitor. I also use FreeBSD , X ver.4.2 server and GNOME 2.2.
And now my question: Do I have to setup my X for that monitor, or maybe just
change name, vendor, refresh modes in my XF86Config ?
I am not going to use DVI....
thanks for help

wanting to pkg_add KDE/Gnome post-install
...ll
(followed by CVSup, makeworld/kernel etc to 4-8-stable), I realize I want to
install KDE, too.
I initiated this with:
pkg_add -r kdebase
followed again by CVSup etc.
Apparently that wasn't enough. Am getting message "XFree86 setup utility.. not
installed" when trying to config xf86config (text-based) via /stand/sysinstall
What other packages should I install?
pkg_add -r xf86config is not found.
Thanks in advance,
Torben.

Screen resolution in StarCraft
I have installed StarCraft succesfully, but the screen
resolution is only 600x480, how do I change it to 1024x768?
I have tried to write:
wine --desktop 1024x768 starcraft.exe
but that makes the area available 1024x768 inside a 600x480
resolution!

trying to solve the problem by tweeking the XF86Config

hours of parts swapping, distribution swapping, and OS
swapping (trying Windows too), to finally figure out
that the nVIDIA card was the problem. (Some might say

FreeBSD 4.9-PRE+ nvidia
...lem as described by Dmitry a day ago in a topic similar.
I am able to use x11 with base driver "nv" but when I load "nvidia" driver,

file as reported by Dmitry even using startx+logverbose option. XF86Config
file is similar, except it is not the same nvidia video card. I use a Geforce

X was working well before using nvidia driver with 4.8 stable.
I even run this driver on freebsd-current for almost a year.
Normally, I can set this driver easily, even on freebsd current release.
This time, i ha...

After running the installer perl script, most of the tools work, but for
X11 in particular I had to manually revert the /usr/X11R6/bin/X symlink to
point back at Xorg, and restore the /etc/XF86Config file from
/etc/X11R6/xorg.conf -- I then merged in the VMWare screen definitions
from the XF86Config file written by the tools installer. Because I'm not
using the vmware X server, the mouse does not move seamlessly on and off
the vmware guest window; you have to manually grab/ungrab the p...

Loosing keyboard
...can't do anything anymore. The Num Lock doesn't
react nor the Caps lock. It's like if it would just be disabled. If I quit
Xwindow, then my keyboard comes back again, working perfectly.
Did anybody also have this problem ? I had a look elsewhere but didn't see
anything helpful. My XF86Config file has a normal input section and I tried
to change it without success.
The current one:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Keyboard0"
Driver "keyboard"
EndSection
Of course I also changed the physical keyboard.
Thanks for any pointers,
Daniel

Wine Starcraft slowness
...sems to have explicitly disabled The DGA extension in order to get DRI
to work, but that's for Quake III and other such 3D games (I didn't have
to do that for UT). So, which one works better ? DGA on, or DGA off ?
Either way, I also need to know what I have to type or avoid typing into
XF86Config in order to achieve the desired state in my X server.
Thanks a lot !

Adding Truetype fonts
...ou need to display the font, print it, or both?
To display it, you need to make the font known to your X server. Most
recent distributions support TrueType "out of the box", either directly
or through a font server. Check the 'FontPath' entry in your XFree86
configuration file (XF86Config or XF86Config-4). It will either contain
a list of directories or something weird like "unix/:7100". If it's
the latter, your X server is using a separate font server, and you'll
need to look at *its* configuration file (possibly /etc/X11/fs/config)
for the 'catalogue' e...

Hi,
This is some short of technical question or might be my stupidity, please tell

Ok, let's say I have an application which I would like to run in

would no like to change the resolution. Is there any way to let wine start an

Printing with CUPS and missing deadkeys

The next problem:
I've a german keyboard. Under Linux, I have all the deadkeys. When
running wine, I can't use them. Doesn't wine use the settings from
XF86Config? In which wine config file do I add the option LANG=De (with
deadkeys)?
Thanks.

X11 fonts cannot be loaded - SuSE Linux solution
Dear list,
I would like to make a comment how to solve the X11 font problem under
SuSE Linux (9.0) when you get the message:
"X11 font at size 16 could not be loaded".
After having modified /etc/X11/XF86config as root (see below) you have
to run 'SuSEconfig' as root as well else nothing might be changed in the
X-Server.
After that no further messages should appear.

Re: screen fonts -- LCD and Analog Connections ...
...sing the VESA standard modes (typically
60Hz for 1024x768 on a LCD).
You need to open up your LCD user's manual, find the resolution you
want, and input the _exact_ 1) Bandwidth 2) Horizonal Sync and 3)
Vertical Sync for that mode into a modeline calculator. Then put those
modelines into your XF86Config/xorg.conf.
Otherwise, at 1024x768, you're going to see a lot of the distortions.
It has nothing to do with fonts.
Ideally you should be using DVI and not an analog connector. That
removes the problem entirely.
