GPL PV Intermitent Network Problems
Well, I seem to have developed a strange issue with the GPL PV drivers
in Windows. I''m running Xen 3.2 on SLES 10 SP2 and running some Windows
XP HVM domUs. Most (12-15) of my Windows machines work just fine. Two
of them, though, have started exhibiting a strange behavior with
intermittent network connectivity. Basically, the network starts up and
connects initially. After some

[PATCH] PVWin: Fix warnings
This patch cleans up some 80-odd warnings I was seeing when compiling
the xenpci driver, all completely trivial. It also replaces the use of
asm for calling cpuid with the __cpuid compiler intrinsic, and modifies
calling code accordingly.
I''m pretty sure my mailer going to mangle the inline patch (below) so
I''m attaching the pristine version. (will try to fix...

PoD, 4.2, and current/maximum reservation
...PV under Xen 4.2 when using PoD. I''m using the difference between XENMEM_maximum_reservation and XENMEM_current_reservation to tell me how much I should balloon down to account for PoD, but when the user has ballooned down to 1G (from 4Gb or 8GB), GPLPV logs the following:
13005008825593: XenPCI XENMEM_maximum_reservation = 262400
13005008825593: XenPCI XENMEM_current_reservation = 262136

What is the correct way to tell how much PoD memory there is under 4.2? Am I doing it wrong?
I balloon down as early as possible (...

GPL PV TAP cow incompatible?
...If i use QCOW images with my Windows DomU''s i get a stop error:
0x00000007b (inaccessible boot device).
It looks like the blkback.3.hda process, that normally starts with
normal raw backend, doesnt get started with tap:qcow disks.
Instead i get this repeating entry in the qemu log:
XenPCI Still waiting for 2 (currently 1)...
XenPCI Still waiting for 2 (currently 1)...

Any ideas?

Windows GPL PV Drivers 0.9.9-pre2
...unaligned memory buffers.
The thing that''s bugging me at the moment is how to make upgrades from
previous versions work nicely. Part of the problem is that some of the
drivers BSOD on close sometimes, which I should be able to fix if I can
catch it happening, but the main problem is that xenpci 0.9.8 (probably)
isn''t going to work with xennet 0.9.9, and when windows upgrades the
drivers it will know that it has to upgrade xenpci next boot so it
defers it (because xenvbd is using it to manage the system drive), but

[GPLPV] Xennet device issues on Win2k3 x32 DomU/Disabling just one PV device
Hi there.
I have been dealing with a conundrum off and on with a VPS of mine. Windows
2003 Standard 32 bit on a Xen HVM instance. Been trying to get the GPLPV
drivers working to help boost performance but always seem to run into one
major issue: The PV network device looks like it works but actual
connectivity is non-existant. Everything else in the GPLPV driver suite
works fine.

During the installation of drivers installer reports "The device is not

After the instalation I can see Xen SCSI and XenNet with exclamation mark

I have also tried to manually install version 0.9.5.

GPLPV 0.11.0.238 and Windows 2008 R2 requiring extra reboot
James,
I am running Windows 2008 R2 on Xen that is packaged with CentOS 5.4. I
installed gplpv_Vista2008x64_0.11.0.238.msi using the falling steps:
1. Turn on testsigning
2. Reboot
3. Install gplpv_Vista2008x64_0.11.0.238.msi
4. Install process requests a reboot at the end.
5. At the end of the subsequent boot, there is a prompt for a reboot
again.

You would need to install the xenpci driver (xenpci.sys) too, which is
what communicates with Dom0. ShutdownMon connects to a ''socket'' (of
sorts) created by the xenpci driver and listens for events. Probably
best to either get the source using hg or wait for the next binary
release (as soon as Andy is happy for the n...

Disabling driver signature enforcement for Windows DomUs
Hi all,
After loading the GplPV drivers for Windows Server 2008, I wanted to
get rid of the annoying F8 option when rebooting each time. I looked
at Ready Driver Plus, which seemed to work, but was only a
workaround. It also seemed to kill my terminal connection from Dom0.
After some research, I found another way:

Nick,
I have built a xenpci.sys that will tell Windows not to give it an IRQ
under 16. Other than testing that it doesn''t crash I haven''t given it
any other testing. You can download it at:
http://www.meadowcourt.org/downloads/xenpci.sys.no_irq_under_16.xp.bin

Ubuntu HVM installation is very slow
Hi Everyone,
I am trying my hands on xen under Solaris SXCE build 113. The machine has
the following configuration:
2 Quad Core Xeon CPUs
16 GB RAM
Solaris SXCE b113
4 disks - 2 mirrors x 2 stripes under ZFS
The problem is that xen HVM is very slow. I am using the following command
to create an Ubuntu 9.0.4 test vm.
virt-install -n test1 -r 2048 --vcpus=2 -f /vdatapool/data/test1.img -s 50

unistalling gplpv from win7x64 gives BSOD
I have installed the 210 gplpv (debug), when I try to update them with
current gplpv I get a BSOD even so when I try to uninstall them.
Now I have made a bootentry that specifies NOGPLPV, what gives me a
bootable system after such a crash, I found (uninstalling the leftover
driver packages after getting bsod during uninstall of the main package)
that uninstalling the net driver leads to bsod. Now

Strange Problem with Windows GPLPV Drivers
...emplate corruption,
again BSOD on boot.
Booting into safe mode works fine, so that led me to believe it could be
driver related.
I then performed a fresh install of windows from ISO, and that worked fine,
UNTIL I installed the GPLPV drivers .. half way through the install, I got a
BSOD with xenpci.sys being the offending file.
It would seem I have hit some sort of internal limit maybe .. the host has
plenty of RAM, the dom0 domain has plenty of RAM, and disk space is not an
issue.
Any ideas?

Release 0.8.8 of GPL PV drivers for Windows
In the spirit of ''release early, release often'', here''s another binary
release...
http://www.meadowcourt.org/WindowsXenPV-0.8.8.zip
The only thing that''s changed since 0.8.7 is that xennet should work
under amd64 again.
