Xen 4.0 memory overcommitment
Hello, I am running a functional Xen 4.0 platform. The objective is the project I am currently running is to replace 4 VMWare ESX by 4 Xen 4.0 hypervisors. I have been able to reproduce all the core VMWare features in Xen (but better of course =D) except memory overcommitment. I know this feature has been included since Xen 3.3 but I have found almost no information about it. When I try to

During the XenLinux booting, a error was issued "Warning: unable to open an initial console" and then system booting stoped. Kernel types and xen caps : PV/HVM, 32/64 bit, PAE/non-PAE
Hi Is there a doc/wiki page which explains, the kind of domu images/appliances/kernels can be run with what type of dom0 kernels(xen_caps). For example : -- Can a 32 bit, non-PAE domU run on 64 bit, PAE dom 0 in PV mode ? (or HVM mode ?) Are there any checks that can be done before doing the migration ? Is there any programmatic way (from python) to find out if the kernel in a domU disk

limit on the number of NICs per domU
Hello, Xen FAQ states that there''s a limitation of 3 virtual network interfaces per domU: http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenFaq#head-9896478cf65a16f43ab4fb066f74c0e0d67a16ac My question is: is there any way (like setting some #define or something in the sources) to rise this limit to 4 or 5? Why is the limit set to 3 actually? I tried to google, but I couldn''t find any answer to my question and I''d reall...

DomU clock out of sync
...oblem? Is there a difference in the way ntpdate updates time the way ntpd does? IIRC ntpd updates time continuously, correct? Can someone explain why this would happen. Could this be caused by a xend restart? After googling, I''m surprised a best practice solution isn''t listed on XenFaq... considering how many users seem to be frustrated with this issue. Suggestions for the xen user''s manual / wiki
Hi, there are two issues wich cost me some time to figure out and maybe it made sense if someone put them into the documentation and / or wiki, because without these addressed my system ran pretty instable and wasn''t very usable. This applies to xen-3.0 and kernel 2.6.12.6-xen: 1) Networking issue With the default bridged setup, networking was quite flaky, e.g. samba access from dom0

openSUSE in domU on a CentOS dom0
Hi there, I am new to Xen. Just began trying it out from day-before. I have a CentOS 4.4 install on my hda6 partition. And I have a openSUSE 10.2 install on my hda8 partition. For openSUSE 10.2, I chose the Xen options while installing, and so I have the xen kernels too installed. For CentOS 4.4, I downloaded the Xen 3.0.2 source and compiled from there. (I followed the instructions at this

Need to pick your brain for recommendation on using 2.5" or 3.5" HDDs for Asterisk server...
Hi Everyone, I am stack between two identical systems (2U Twin2, 4 nodes, SuperMicro) servers that have the same exact specs except for HDDs. These nodes will all either have Asterisk installed with CentOS or will have Asterisk install in virtual environment. Option 1: *12* x 3.5" HDD (3 HDDs per node) Option 2: *24* x 2.5" HDD (6 HDDs per node) **both options come to the same price.

network-multinet usage?
Still trying to make my VMs appear on a subnet of their very own and route traffic to/from them from the Dom0. This network-multinet script sounds ideal for what I want: http://thepenguinpriest.com/linux/scripts/network-multinet.html However, the description of building a routed network says I need to call the script and give it the "virtual ethernet device (vethX)" that lives in

App virtualisation, not OS virtualisation
I would like to run multiple copies of an application on a PC with multiple remote dumb clients. It would seem to me that running Xen would be a sub-optimal solution as I would need a copy of the OS running for every copy of the application, but I was wondering whether a subset of Xen or Xen techniques could be used. There are 2 barriers to running multiple applications with remote access: -
