dom0 dedicated memory Xen dom0 dedicated memory and preventing dom0 memory ballooning
I''m trying to configure GRUB to allocate fixed amount of dedicated memory to dom0, according to this best practices thread (http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenBestPractices | "Xen dom0 dedicated memory and preventing dom0 memory ballooning "). When I reboot, dom0 has the fixed amount of memory as it was configured, but neither xm info shows the rest of memory available for the Hypervisor, nor can start domUs (due to lack of memory). For me it seems that...

Fwd: Re: Swap: create or not?
...ooning for dom0? I''d say: Avoid it like the plague! It will bog down your dom0 horribly and the only reason I can see for using it, would be on a desktop where ocassionally you use a xen domU. For a server I strongly suggest following the best practices: http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenBestPractices cheers -henrik On Fri, Feb 11, 2011 at 02:18:48PM +0300, George Shuklin wrote: > Yes, swap is almost mandatory - it will save machine from state ''very > low mem''. dom0 CPU pinning and xm weighting
Wondering if I can get some opinions on dom0 CPU pinning and xm weighting. We have several xen servers on SLES11SP1 and up to this point we have never done anything with pinning CPU''s to dom0. We''re trying to decide if we should be doing that. Same goes for xm weighting (if I''m saying that correctly). For example, running the following command when a xen server

xentop batch mode
Hi guys, First of all, sorry to send this one here on the centos ml. I know it's kind of off-topic, but the xen-users list seems a dead end, I was hoping some of you guys are experienced in this. I have a problem with a xen 3.4.2 on Centos 5 x86_64 installation, I need to see the total/used/available memory of dom0 when using xentop, however in batch mode it doesn't seem to work. If I use

xen 4.1.1 missing veth0 <--> vif0.0 pairs
Hi, I am using Xen 4.1.1 with Linux 3.0.1 kernel. Previously (Xen 3.4.4 and linux kernel 2.6.18) Xen by default created veth0 <--> vif0.0 pair in dom0. With Xen 4.1.1 these pairs are missing in dom0. Using command ''ip link add type veth'' I can create veth0 and veth1 but vif0.0 is still missing in dom0. (When new domU created I can see vif1.x created) Could you please help

System unusable (hangs) after xm create - xen 4
Hello I have a production server, on which I had to install a new OS. Unfortunately, xen is not willing to run any domUs! Any help would be most highly appreciated. My problem is essentially that described in this post, to which there was no answer at the time: <http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-devel/2009-06/msg01147.html> Symptoms: When trying to xm create a previously

Xen 4.0 memory overcommitment
Hello, I am running a functional Xen 4.0 platform. The objective is the project I am currently running is to replace 4 VMWare ESX by 4 Xen 4.0 hypervisors. I have been able to reproduce all the core VMWare features in Xen (but better of course =D) except memory overcommitment. I know this feature has been included since Xen 3.3 but I have found almost no information about it. When I try to

Doubt on XEN memory management: please clarify
...se there is something not too much clear to me, as regard the memory management in XEN. I don''t want to go too much in deep with such argument, but It''s just to understand what is the best setup for my environment. I know about memory ballooning (http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenBestPractices) and the dom0_mem parameter, but I would like to know what such parameter implies, in practise. Let''s go with my XEN setup now. I have 8GB of RAM and I have seen that if I put dom0_mem=1024M option, the dom0 has 1GB of RAM for itself. What does this really mean? This is confusing me, beca...

Freeze with 2.6.32.19 and xen-4.0.1rc5
Hi, i have big trouble with a Debian Lenny dom0 and latest kernel 2.6.32.19 with xen-4.0.1rc5. Due some reason the system freezes from time to time. I used kernel 2.6.31.9 with xen-3.4.2 before. The machine doesn''t write anything to serial console so there are no errors or something like that. Perhaps there is something to see from the logs ... Hardware Board: Intel DQ45CB CPU:
