Why does fstab fail when command line mount works?
...My old boss just asked me a question, and I thought I had
an easy answer, but nooooooooo. I also apologize if this has been hashed
out, but I'm unable to find the answers after several pages of Google hits.
Anyway, if I try to do this:
mount -t smbfs -o username=kend,password=blah,workgroup=xanoptix
//freedom/kend /mnt/smb/
from the command line, it works fine. [Sorry for the wrappage.] However, if
I plug what appears to be the complementary info into fstab, thusly:
//freedom/kend /mnt/smb smbfs user=kend,password=blah,domain=xanoptix 0 0
it dies horribly with the following:
# mount -...

Three (quick?) questions...
...for inexpensive (doesn't even need LCD),
and yet functional?
3) In order to share data and voice over a T1, does it have to be PRI?
[I've got a T1 I could probably play with, but I'd like to be sure
it'll... well, you know: work.]

an elegant way to make this work? Or is it back to my inelegant, but

when I copied my Grandstream's sip.conf info and plugged in the Uniden

winbindd due the following error and I can't manage why,

...ort offers.) If I try, they just vanish
when I click "OK". However, if I remove the client from the domain, and
set it up by itself with "security = user", it works fine.
Am I doing something dumb, or is this an oversight/glitch/bug?

Installing manpages?
Hiya! How do I, from a source install, make the manpages install? I've
got 2.2.5, and have hand-compiled for ages, but have no idea how to, as
part of the build process, install the manpages.

school PDC questions
I need to set up a samba server (I think samba 3.0.2 will be the one) as
PDC for my school. It needs to serve mandatory profiles, home dirs,
shares, printers. As OS I think redhat will do just fine (or isn't that
a good idea?). Authentication would use openLDAP (if I get it online
with the hints of realx).
Questions:
1. What hardware will do a fine job to do this?
2. Can a webserver run

synch with the stuff on the server.
So, my question: is there any way to "re-add" the PC to the domain w/o
having the locally cached stuff get thrown out with the bath water?
Thanks!

corresponding <03> section in the PDC's wins.dat file. (Oh: Samba 2.2.8a,

Any ideas as to why it wouldn't be there? The clients are all W2K boxes...

"Re-constituting" smbpasswd machine entry?

entries, or do I have to remove and restore the machines from/to the

clients, if there's any way to do so...

Dear all,
i want to send windows popup message from a redhat 9.0 box in the same

I've got all the locking 'n stuff that I could possibly think of turned

Any suggestions? I'm kinda clueless, here...

Changing domains, both server- and client-side.
My company recently changed its name, and now I've been asked to change
our domain's name, too. Is there any way I can accomplish this without
having to have each PC join a new domain, with all the problems inherent
in something like that? Registry edits, etc., would be fine, but I
really dread having to mess with all the profiles that are going to get
messed up...
Thanks!

Timestamps -- XP vs. w2K?
I know, I know: "Never trust the end user." Nevertheless, he may have a
valid point; if so, I'm somewhat confused: when XP simply *looks* at some
files, it updates their timestamps. This isn't just stuff like .XLS,
where it might be saving metadata, autosave info, or somesuch; this is
things like .JPG files. Why is that? It's confusing the users, 'cause

Per-alias shares?
I'm trying to figure out if there's any way to have multiple virtual
servers on the same machine, each server having different shares.
Barring running multiple smbd processes, I don't see a way. Is there one?
Thanks!
