Sun Fire X4200 M2 / CentOS 5 APIC issues
I had been running CentOS 5 happily on my Sun Fire X4200 M2 systems,
then I upgraded the BIOS and iLOM firmware. Now I'm running into what
seems to be a fairly common problem with newer motherboards. I cannot
boot unless I use the 'noapic' kernel option. If I try to boot the
kernel normally, I get the error:

Sun x4200 vs. Xen
Has anyone successfully managed to get Xen working on a Sun x4200? I
am trying to boot the Xen kernel after installation from RPM on a
clean RHEL ES 4 update 3 installation and it is
frozen/hanging/hardware lock on "PCI: Using configuration type 1".
Any ideas are much appreciated.

Filebench, X4200 and Sun Storagetek 6140
Hi there
I''m busy with some tests on the above hardware and will post some scores soon.
For those that do _not_ have the above available for tests, I''m open to suggestions on potential configs that I could run for you.
Pop me a mail if you want something specific _or_ you have suggestions concerning filebench (varmail) config setup.
Cheers

Best Practices recommendation on x4200
Greetings all-
I have a new X4200 that I''m getting ready to deploy. It has four 146 GB SAS drives. I''d like to setup the box for maximum redundancy on the data stored on these drives. Unfortunately, it looks like ZFS boot/root aren''t really options at this time. The LSI Logic controller in this box only s...

Hello,
was use several cad applications and with one of those we have problems using zfs.
OS and hardware is SunOS 5.10 Generic_118855-36, Fire X4200, the cad application is catia v4.
There are several configuration and data files stored on the server and shared via nfs to solaris and aix clients. The application is crashing on the aix client except the server is sharing those files from a ufs filesystem. Has anybody informations in this?

performance problem with windows 2003 client
I've run into an odd (at least to me) performance issue between a samba
server and windows 2003. The windows side is w2k3 w/ SP2 on an HP DL585
with HP EVA SAN storage. Linux is CentOS 5 on a Sun X4200 with samba
package samba-3.0.25b-1.el5_1.4and a FUSE mounted filesystem
(glusterFS). Watching the network tab of task manager while pulling a
few large files from the samba server to the fast drive on the windows
end I see an oscillation between 50% (of gigabit) and 0%. A trace

Performance problem of ZFS ( Sol 10U2 )
...nding as suggested by Eric in http://blogs.sun.com/erickustarz/entry/vq_max_pending
But no change in this write behaviour.
Iostat shows cca 20-30ms asvc_t, 0%w, and cca 30% busy on all drives so these are not saturated it seems. (before with UTF they had 90%busy, 1%wait).
System is Sol 10 U2, sun x4200, 4GB RAM.
Please if you could give me some hint to really make this working as the way back to UFS is almost impossible on live system.

Connecting Solaris 10 + samba + Mac OS X Open Directory

ZFS on CLARiiON SAN Hardware?
....java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5179681&tstart=0, though
the basic conclusion seems to be that ZFS does not work on CLARiiON
devices.
If someone would like to look at the core file I''ll be happy to send it
along off-list. Also of note, is that I set the same thing up on a Sun
Fire X4200 M2 the other day and was able to create a zpool on the same
CLARiiON device.

RHEL 5 - Multiple Bridges with same Hardware Address
I am writing this email in the hopes of getting some advice from Xen users.
My
main concern is performance and stability. Before I get any further, let me
explain the environment:
1. I am using redhat enterprise linux 5 with the xen kernel
(2.6.18-8.1.1.el5xen). This is on a Sun X4200 with two dual core AMD
processors, 16Gb of RAM, a Sun StoredgeTek 3320 attached to the
X4200, has a 4 port NIC.
2. eth0 is configured as the primary interface for the Domain-0 and is
attached to the xenbr0. I am using network-bridge model to provide
networking for the two guest dom...

Troubleshooting ZFS performance with SIL3124 cards
Hi!
I have a problem with ZFS and most likely the SATA PCI-X controllers.
I run
opensolaris 2008.11 snv_98 and my hardware is Sun Netra x4200 M2 with
3 SIL3124 PCI-X with 4 eSATA ports each connected to 3 1U diskchassis
which each hold 4 SATA disks manufactured by Seagate model ES.2
(500 and 750) for a total of 12 disks. Every disk has its own eSATA
cable
connected to the ports on the PCI-X cards.
The problem I have is that disk acces...

3510 configuration for ZFS
...le parity with two hot-spares). using 300GB drives
this would give roughly 2.4TB of usable space.
I am presuming I will want the RAID module purely for the additional
caching, and create a single LUN for each disk and present those to
ZFS. the disk will most likely be directly attached to an
X4100/X4200 using MPxIO, exported via NFS (some Linux NFSv3 clients,
some Solaris 9, 10 and Nevada).
I would like to get a feel for what others are doing in similar
configurations. is the 3510 RAID module cache effective in such a
configuration? I wasn''t able to find any definitive answer to this in...

Recommended rack-mountable server anyone?
Hey everyone,
I've been doing a lot of research into a decent server for Asterisk
but I seem to be running and circles and now I am turning to you. The
issue I have is it needs to be rack mountable (so a Dell SC430 isn't
going to work) and preferably have 3 pci ports. The problem that I
seem to be running into is that when I look at servers from Dell or
IBM or the like they only seem to
