Comparison between the S-TEC Zeus and the Intel X25-E ??
I''m looking at the newly-orderable (via Sun) STEC Zeus SSDs, and they''re outrageously priced. http://www.stec-inc.com/product/zeusssd.php I just looked at the Intel X25-E series, and they look comparable in performance. At about 20% of the cost. http://www.intel.com/design/flash/nand/extreme/index.htm Can anyone enlighten me as to any possible difference between an STEC Zeus and an Intel X25-E ? I mean, other than those associated with the fact that you ca...

queer data set
I have a dataset that is basically structureless. Its dimension varies from row to row and sep(s) are a mixture of tab and semi colon (;) and example is HEADER1 HEADER2 HEADER3 HEADER3 A1 B1 C1 X11;X12;X13 A2 B2 C2 X21;X22;X23;X24;X25 A3 B3 C3 A4 B4 C4 X41;X42;X43 A5 B5 C5 X51 etc., say. Note that a blank under HEADER3 corresponds to non occurance and all semi colon (;) delimited variables are under HEADER3. These values run into tens of thousands. I want to give some order...

VMGuest IOMeter numbers
...39;'m sure. We''ve been having awful IO latencies on our 7210 running about 40 VM''s spread over 3 hosts, no SSD''s / Intent Logs. I am trying to get some, but the price... so I had to work up some sort of PoC to show it would help. It so happens I just purchased 3, X25-M''s for my own use, and could spare one for a few weeks (though I hate to think how many cells I burned testing), and we also happen to have a couple home built small ZFS servers around to test with. Pretty limited resources, we have a home built box with 5, 250gb 7200rpm sata disks, each...

Supermicro SAS/SATA controllers?
The standard controller that has been recommended in the past is the AOC-SAT2-MV8 - an 8 port with a marvel chipset. There have been several mentions of LSI based controllers on the mailing lists and I''m wondering about them. One obvious difference is that the Marvel contoller is PCI-X and the LSI controllers are PCI-E. Supermicro have several LSI controllers. AOC-USASLP-L8i with the

dedicated ZIL/L2ARC
We are looking into the possibility of adding a dedicated ZIL and/or L2ARC devices to our pool. We are looking into getting 4 ? 32GB Intel X25-E SSD drives. Would this be a good solution to slow write speeds? We are currently sharing out different slices of the pool to windows servers using comstar and fibrechannel. We are currently getting around 300MB/sec performance with 70-100% disk busy. Opensolaris snv_134 Dual 3.2GHz quadcores wit...

x25 line xterm
Noted that xterm by default uses 24 lines per window. I have reviewed /etc/termcap looking for a specific entry for xterm that I can edit to change the ln#24 to ln#25 for our application. When I used RedHat there was an editable option to change the number of displayable lines as is done in putty. Any suggestions? --Hal. -- Hal Davison Observe Goal, Set the course, Burn the map

LVM and ZFS
...using a device directly by ZFS causes errors on the console about "Bus and lots of "stalled" I/O. But as soon as I wrap that device inside an LVM metadevice and then use it in the ZFS zpool things work perfectly fine and smoothly (no stalls). Situation 1 is when trying to use Intel X25-E or X25-M SSD disks in a Sun X4240 server with the LSI SAS controller - I never could get things to run without errors no matter what. (Tried multiple LSI controllers and multiple SSD disks). Jul 8 09:43:31 merope scsi: [ID 365881 kern.info] /pci at 0,0/pci10de,375 at f/pci1000,3150 at 0 (mpt0)...

This measure is confined to the interval [0,1] and much easier to interpret. My try: myqcskewness <- function(x) { x25 <- as.double(quantile(x,prob=0.25)) x75 <- as.double(quantile(x,prob=0.75)) qcsk <- (x25+x75-2*mean(x))/(x75-x25) qcsk } Finally a question which actually is not R-related (please excuse this misuse of the list): Is there something like a "quantile-coefficient of kurtosis&quot...

block align SSD for use as a l2arc cache
