limit number of TCP connections.
...r exemple: I have a host with IP 192.168.1.202 and he is using edonkey, Kazaa, and Bittorrent at the same time, and he also is infected by a virus that opens more than 500 TCP ports at the same time. So, i want to limit that host to be able to open no more then 30 TCP connections at once, so he wouldnt hurt the other users. Thanks in advance, Cristiano Soares

profile on a remote server
I notice that in the LDAP the profiles are store in a network share. Is it possible to use a different samba server not setup as a PDC/BDC to share these profile. for an example maybe setup a little samba box on a remote site, that stores profiles and home dirs, but still auth against the PDC. wouldnt that help keep network traffic on the WAN down?

feature idea
here's an idea for icecast.. the ability to create a relay dynamically by passing a url to the admin interface. (instead of having to add to the config file and kill -s HUP) such relays wouldnt be permanently stored in the config file (unless icecast starts writing to its config file) but would function as long as the server stays up, or until stopped thru the admin interface. --mark

what to do in worst case scenario: samba pdc not available
...ction to the Samba Server anymore. Maybye due an error in the network or the PDC died for some reason. Is there any way to quickly change the clients profile to a local profile? I don?t have profile roaming enabled. All I want is that the users can access/login to their profiles if the Samba PDC wouldnt be available anymore .... Thanks a lot regards,

xm, no such domain error code...
Right now xm will return 1 if you run `xm list non_existant_domain` Wouldnt it be a better idea to have a specific error code for this error so that scripts wrapping around xm can better determine if the domain does not exist or if xm just failed for whatever reason? ~Shaun _______________________________________________ Xen-devel mailing list Xen-devel@lists.xensou...

Ajax Checkbox using Rails
Hi, I''m trying to have a checkbox, that when clickes sends an update to the server and in turn modify the UI with feedback on the success of the operation. The main difficulty I''m encountering is that I can''t pass the checkbox value if I use the standard PrototypeHelpers. I''m using remote_function to build the function call, but it doesn''t allow

Ruby app to rails?
Hi. Im am considering porting an c++ application to Ruby, and me company would also like to have an web-version of this particular application. If say there is an XML validator in the app. Then can Ruby and RoR share this in an easy way, so i wouldnt have to maintain 2 branches of the same XML validator. Best Regards. strptime and plot(),lines()
...ll i see on the x-achis are the Days. I would like to see the hours also. 2. length(zeit) gives mit the length of one entry. But zeit exists of 500 entries. How can i get the amount of entries zeit got? 3. Im used to draw whith lines() into an existing plot. But something like lines(zeit, food) wouldnt work. All this works quit well, when Im using unixtime. But seconds since 1970 are not that nice on the x-achis:-) Regards Erkan Yanar -- ?ber den grenzen mu? die freiheit wohl wolkenlos sein

Usage of 'no' as external helper
libguestfs and supermin use 'no' instead of either the basename of the desired application, or 'false', as helper string. This happens when configure does not find things like rpm or supermin during build. Wouldnt it be more logical to use the basename instead of 'no' so that at runtime one has the chance to install the required packages and in addition get an obvious error message in verbose mode what external helper is actually missing? In my package I force a few things like 'export ZYPPER=zyp...

Wine securityflaw.
...much greater damage than you expected. The question is...Would you expect that damage from running a windows app in wine, when you know it could be safely run in Windows? In just a few embedded bytes in the code it could remove your home directory in a single syscall. Would you expect that? - I wouldnt. I really love the idea of Wine, and the fact that its working good and rather stable now does mean its gaining popularity and a broader user base, which further IMHO accelerates the wine movement. If wine users were aware of the risks of using wine at present, I believe wine would be used mor...

counter_cache, has_many and belongs_to
...an "unknown key(s): counter_cache" error. Why would this be the case? belongs_to means that this model has a field with an id of a record form another table. belongs_to associations only ever return a single object. So why would you need to cache the number of associated objects? Wouldnt the has_many association need the counter cache instead since you never know how many records are linked? Maybe I''m just not understanding something, but here is the snippet I am using: class Coupon has_many :coupon_uses, :counter_cache => :uses_count end Now I could just...
